Renowned anime director, Miyazaki Hayao makes some potentially controversial comments about the current Japanese Prime Minister emphasizing his liking for manga, anime/manga/games/etc. as a cultural export, and the dangerous effect of media on Japanese children. Also, the dangers of nationalism. Over at Anime News Network forum, people discuss this. Some agree with Miyazaki, others disagree partly or completely, some people express disappointment in Miyazaki and question the quality of his works, but overall the discussion is quite civil. The harshest comments so far: "One keeps promoting manga. One keeps making shitty anime. (...)""The political comments are just elitist bs. (...) if he has stated publicly that other people's work in anime is crap, then that definitely qualifies him for a big [ignore] tag."Nothing too bad, right? Well, according to penguintruth, the thread is full of fanboy outrage and people are making "absurd, baseless accusations" and twisting Miyazaki's words "into a personal attack on them so they can get all riled up for no reason." And as we all know, "Making assumptions about Miyazaki based on a pretty reasonable statement and not supporting those assumptions with anything of substance is what we call "trolling", and it is the result of either willful ignorance or the intent to stir things up needlessly."Knowing the ANN forums it might be worth keeping an eye on this (unless a mod steps in). |

S2 Layout Issues Hi, Guys. I know a good many of the S2 themes are kinda hosed right now. Something changed with the LJ migration to their new data center. The Bloggish and Style Contest themes have their CSS hosted at LJ. That's by LJ's design, with how the code is distributed. The code is set to use LJ's CSS proxy to handle the access and display of the CSS settings. Since LJ's move, though, the CSS proxy has been kaput. But the CSS itself at LJ is still working. Until we can find a way around all this, a couple users have a way that you can use the Custom CSS in your customization area to get your layouts pretty damn close to the original for that layout and theme. You'll enter two sets of code in that area. The first one would be the code from this URL: http://stat.livejournal.com/sixhtml/themes/common/base-weblog.cssJust go there, copy it, and paste into the custom CSS box. And the second set you enter will be from the direct CSS URL for your specific theme. You can locate this URL by viewing the source of your journal in your browser (View Source code). If you scroll down to the <link rel="stylesheet" section of the source code, you'll see the direct url to your theme's CSS at livejournal. Go there, copy that code, and paste it after the base-weblog.css code above. Make sure you have "No" selected to use the included base code (it's a dropdown), and that the URL field above the custom CSS box is empty. Click to save changes, and your theme will display much as it is supposed to. There is occasionally an element like a border that doesn't come through, but it's pretty close.
As an example of the CSS URLs, this is the one for the Baby theme for the Bloggish layout:
http://stat.livejournal.com/sixhtml/themes/lilia/theme-baby.css
The CSS URLS will be start with
http://stat.livejournal.com/sixhtml with the rest varying by theme and layout.
I'll still be looking for an alternative to having to futz with custom CSS, but in the meantime, that method of applying the CSS will get your Bloggish and Style Contest journal themes put back together pretty well.
Thanks,
Robin |

"Obviously, it was not the outcome we had hoped for or wanted" So did you hear the news? cleolinda's head exploded Er, I mean RDR Books is appealing. That's right, you heard me: RDR Books has issued a notice of appeal. Wankas can scarcely believe it. I mean, even Trelawney wouldn't have seen this one coming, yuk yuk yuk. Naturally, it's reported on various blogs, like Slashdot as well as Leaky Cauldron, and the same arguments from before are rehashed. You can still refer to RDR Books' website for, uh, information as well. ETA: Recording Industry vs. The People, which had just recently shared an opinion about the Lexicaon fair use decision, revisits the topic. For those of you who wants to know what {The Common Man} has to say about this. Also, did you know that the www.hp-lexicon.org was recently named one of the nation's top 15 "Great Web Sites" for children last week by the American Library Association? How embattled. ETA 2: I just did an ETA and forgot to tack this on. "It ain't over til it's over!"Info/Law says Slashdot commenters are oversimplifying things, and Techdirt says JKR made her case based on emotion rather than law and says the case is damaging her rep. ETA 3: sheep gives us another judicial document that I really wish were really real. Also, a post on rattlesnakeroot's journal commemorates the anniversary of the judicial proceedings, casting Lexicongate characters as Harry Potter ones. ETA 4: From mariem_1: “It was all very hurtful,” says Vander Ark , who is still such a fan himself that he doesn’t blame the multi-millionaire author at all for her actions... Vander Ark says that he now longs to meet Rowling - purely to say how much he regrets upsetting her. mariem_1 continues to make my life easier by pointing out where an anonymouse took issue with rattlesnakeroot's comments on the case. A summary: Anonymous: Is the lack of reading comprehension (whether willful or not, I have no idea) contagious around here? rattlesnakeroot: Thanks for the psychoanalysis. It's so kind of you to study us this way. And in case anyone missed it, I'm not actually Cleo; she retired from Lexicongate and I'm merely Sugitchi's ghostwriter her subpar replacement. cleolinda was last seen dancing with glee. And, in celebration of cleolinda's contributions to keeping us all on top of the tsunami of this wank, here's a refresher course of the past year in Lexicongate: ( In chronological order... ) |

It can't be called insanely creepy if it was done in a joking manner, can it? Have you heard about the pandemonium that Robert Pattinson--the flesh and blood incarnation of Sparkly Marblepeen God Edward Cullen--has been causing as he makes his way across America in a series of Hot Topic mall tours? Well, a group of twats, members of the Twilight humor community ' Twatlight, were there to experience the chaos first hand, and they had a plan to bring a smile to Robert's face. Tom Sturridge is the somewhat lesser known in real life BFF of RPattz. There's several running in jokes amongst the twats involving Tom, and lots of joking around about RPattz/TomStu slashing because the two guys apparently share clothing, and Tom tends to be photographed hovering around Robert protectively as he speaks to the media during red-carpet events (see video for examples. He is the bearded guy standing watch 39 seconds in and at 1.22 minutes. Tom also happens to be wearing the infamous green plaid shirt that he and Robert share.) The Bring A Smile to Rob's face plan was for the twatlight member kristaynuh to wear this homemade shirt during the autograph signing session. The shirt is of two hearts with Tom Sturridge's face stuck right over the boob area with the words 'TomStu ♥s You' directly beneath the pictures. Wanna see how Rob reacted to seeing the face of his best friend over a random girl's bosom? Well, she posted a reaction vid of Rob to youtube, yo here yah go. The general consensus within the Twatlight community was that she was awesome, and that what she'd done was totally in keeping with the community's lulzy attitude towards Twilight. But others do not agree! Some think that it was a majorly creepy move. Others claim that the twats have a double standard when it comes to mocking TwiHards, that to them it's okay for twats to pull stunts like these, but would find it creepy if it were the TwiMoms doing it. And still more claim that Twatlight has gone too srs bsness and has forgotten about its lulzy origins. It's small wank right now, but haven't you missed Twilight wank lately? Bonus Unrelated Thing: RPattz has been doing a lot of promo interviews lately, so he's been doing a lot of Stephenie Meyer slagging off. Like in this video, where he says: "I was convinced... that Stephenie was convinced... that she was Bella... and it was like a book that wasn't supposed to be published. And you're reading like, her sort of sexual fantasy. [...] I was like, This woman is mad. She's completely mad, and she's in love with her own fictional creation. And sometimes you'd like feel uncomfortable reading this thing. [...] It's kind of... like a sick pleasure."And he says this kind of thing not once, but TWICE. |

"We can't help being batshit! Jensen Ackles made us that way!" Is there a crisis going on in the SPN fandom? Could it be possible that Jensen Ackles really doesn't matter? I am no longer a die-hard fan of Jensen Ackles. In fact, I really don't like him much anymore. But wait! No! This must be an error! Because: "Why Jensen Ackles Matters"There's a truckload of mind-boggling awesome tl;dr there, so ( let me give you the highlights: )Sophie Briand and Susannah Eanes - evidently these two wacky kids professional, intelligent, educated, hotass women are one and the same. BONUS WANK: J2 fans have moved into true tinhat territory: Yes, it's time for the clothing shoutouts! How very 2002. Domlijah called, they want their schtick back. ETA: The author has shown up in esorlehcar's journal, claiming it was all fiction, although her friends seem a little appalled and hurt. However, capslock means it was all a joke, evidently! If it's fiction, does that mean she and her friends aren't intelligent and hot? ETA 2:1) susannaheanes has deleted her LJ AND the essay! But it was just FICSHUN! AND FOR THE LOLZ! Alas. 2) Evidently there is nothing more wrong than finding something funny. Only the author and her friends can do that! 3) Evidently me posting this wank is a violation of FW policy! After not explaining how this is to me, she made a very brave post, in which she stood up for her beliefs and completely fail to understand a word Sep said. Now all her friends who are FW members are going to quit or protest or something, I guess. Strangely, these same people who are so concerned with the FW policy, including susannaheanes, do not realize that trolling esorlehcar's journal is a violation of the FW's rules. I'm sorry, I no longer believe in their intelligence, or hotness. D: |

OMG THINK OF THE IMAGINARY CHILDREN!!!!111!11 So today's Fandom Secrets post had a secret about a show called Kodomo no Jikan. WHat is Kodomo no Jikan about? Honestly I have no idea, but going by the posts in the community it's some anime about an elementary school girl who tries to have sex with her teacher. Oh, but wait! Kodomo no Jikan is actually deep and meaningful! Fandom Secrets' response: bitch say WHAT!?But people keep defending it, because it really is more than pedobait! Seriously! Also, there's lots of South Park comparisons, because the two series are so much alike! But some say it's not. Either way, there's a lot of fail on both sides. |
