Cody has left the building :( I assume adopted. It was nearly all new dogs when I went today - they've got some turn-over rate.
Now I'm reading Fables! It's good.

So they say you come out of an animal shelter wanting to adopt them all, but yesterday I only felt like a good day accomplished. But today... today I can't stop thinking about Fini, this little curly-haired Schnauzer-type dog. He was the sweetest thing and he had a sister who already got adopted, so he was v lonely. He'd bark at everything but if you got in his pen he'd immediately try to cuddle with you. Poor, sweet thing.
And unlike Mocha >:(, he didn't try to bite me when I tried to leave. Mocha's a black lab (they have a few of those) puppy, and the turn-away-and-don't-reward-bad-behavior-with-attention policy did not work when she grabbed my shirt and held on... with her teeth. No punctures, but people had to rescue me and unlatch her.
&Cody; is also one of my favorites, because he's bloody huge and I love big dogs. He was also so cute with really long legs - black lab mix with Godzilla, on his hind legs he could put his front legs on my shoulders easily - and a really long lolling tongue. Strong as hell, though, and I'm glad I didn't run him. The top volunteer, V, did instead, putting a "backpack" on him with bottled water in it to slow him down. I took out Baby, a young German Shepard, while V ran Cody around.
Butter was also sweet, barely barked unlike the other dogs, but pulled like a demon on our walks. So I walked Pepper (the oldest, black lab or otherwise, and, uh, pretty aggressive :( ), Baby, Butter, Sasha (very pretty dog, like a greyhound or something; so cute, she chased after butterflies and grasshoppers), Maisey, and Furby (who was a little hairy dog and very appropriately named).
I didn't spend any time in the Cattery (I've always loved my cats, but dogs are more fun) and the Nursery was closed, but I had some good times. Today it's definitely like, "oh man, i wish they all had homes :(" though. But Furby got adopted that day and I believe Fini is adopted too! It's a couple days process, so if I go tomorrow they'll probably still be there. I think Furby will be picked up Tuesday.
So... yeah. Also, Kadath? Hot. Hot. Hot. Hot. Very hot. >:C

They're still going! That's amazing. And would you look at this duck?
I swear, I'll do that Rorschach spam at some point. I swear. And I wish I could make decent icons out of the comic book, but most have looked like crap :(
Alya, I got your comment but have reached a roadblock in my brainstorming so I'm still thinking about it.
Have started Stephen King's Misery. It's... scary, but not interesting enough for me to not want to skip pages and see what else Annie Wilkes does. Which is why I read about fifty pages of the beginning and the last twenty pages at the end and haven't picked it up since. I have no stamina :(

They have such a thing as chocolate pasta now. Did you know? I didn't know. I bought it for a friend, so I don't know how it tastes. In fact, when I bought it I thought it was just, you know, pasta-shaped chocolate. But no, there's cooking directions on the back and everything. It's good I eventually looked at the back of the package, huh? :D:
HOW CAN I CONVINCE PEOPLE TO VOTE FOR WATCHMEN? WITHOUT RESORTING TO POSTING JEFFREY DEAN MORGAN PICTURES IN MY POSTS, I MEAN. THERE ARE LIMITS.
I suppose I'll have to find some dead sexy picture of him for HD that will convince people to not vote for Karl Urban change their votes, won't I? My life; so hard :(

Uh. *scratches head* This is kind of awkward.
Um, I put this up a while ago on the special filter I made for my writing. Can people see it? I'm just asking because nobody responded. i'm getting shunned, aren't I?
In other news, an epic Rorschach post is coming. But it will probably have to wait BECAUSE TOMORROW IN TWO DAYS IS PICSPAM DAY AT HOT_DAILY. :O
And it looks like the Timelords have won. Fookin' hell >:(
THERE IS STILL TIME TO VOTE DUCKS. VOTE JULY, VOTE QUACKLES!

In case you hadn't seen it, "Why film schools teach screenwriters not to pass the Bechdel test", a particularly enlightening (and depressing) article about how female characters (and other minorities) are still viewed in film and TV by the people who make it.
An excerpt:
There was no way Hollywood really believed what it was saying about boys who’d grown up with Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor as action heroes, and so there was no way to change the system from within. I concluded Hollywood was dominated by perpetual pre-adolescent boys making the movies they wanted to see, and using the “target audience” - a construct based on partial truths and twisted math - to perpetuate their own desires. there was no way to change the system from within. ---> I've seen fangirls say that they someday hope to make it into film and change things around. I hope they don't become discouraged. However, I'm often discouraged as there's always the self-internalization of misogyny and that fangirls (SPN misogyny wanks being a shining example) don't know or don't care at all about this sort of thing.
The Fifth Element only barely passes the Bechdel test (the one instance I can recall is Leeloo talking to one of the singer's guards), as does RHPS (Columbia and Magenta in the "Touch-a, Touch-a, Touch-a Me" scene), and I don't think American Psycho does. Man of La Mancha - I can't recall. Dexter does, Heroes does.
On a movie-related note, my cousin has invited me along to TDK tomorrow. Score.
My uncle is in the hospital with the same thing that killed his father :( Blood clots moving up to his chest. We're all worried, but he should be okay. He'll just be on medicine the rest of his life. And they don't have health insurance, and they've stuck him in the CC for at least a couple more days.

This is really cool. Particularly if you like portraits. Or just Jensen Ackles. I really missed him :((((
I also went sea kayaking on my cruise! It was great. I was bad at it, but I'm blaming the paddles. Oars. Whatever. and the rudder. Because it was annoying. But I really liked being out on the water, rowing about (or something), snapping pictures of the coast. And when I say 'sea' I mean in reality we were in a cove, with islands of trees and granite. It was lovely. Really peaceful.
And if my memory disk wasn't captured in my laptop I would show you pictures of Saint Johns, New Brunswick and Halifax, Nova Scotia. And fog. Halifax was a really great place - it reminded me of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where I have family. Really hilly, with plenty of trees.
I have also discovered a love of brie (the cheese), thanks to the samples offered at dessert on the cruise. Or it might have been Port Salut. It had a white, filmy sort of part on top. Anyway, it was really great. The food was amazing. But that's kind of what you go on a cruise for. Chill and eat. I had loads of french fries. And today I ate Taco Bell for the first time since forever. But I didn't buy any alcohol today :(

9:55 pm - I went on a cruise to Canada for my 21st
|
My first legal drink in the States was a Blue Moon. It was okay.
Quite frankly, I love alcohol and I'm so pathetically happy I can have it whenever I wish now. Oh, happy, happy, happy, happy day. SERIOUSLY. seriously.
I have had a Pina Colada, Irish coffee, a bunch of wine I don't remember (I think I prefer white), and a bunch of others I did not know the names off. I was insecure about ordering them myself (still being underage) so I didn't order hardly enough of what I wanted to - I would personally have preferred to be belligerently drunk the entire cruise. Frankly, I think I will go buy some alcohol Monday and do nothing but drink the entire day.
Oh, and I finished The Moonstone and may have completely severed ties with my sister.
How were you guys?

I am so worried about my cacti. I left it outside because I was sure it wasn't getting enough sun by the looks of it. But now it looks even worse - completely wilted, changing color, one of them looks more like rotten fruit then a cactus.
OH HENRI HOW HAVE I NEGLECTED YOU? :(((
So, uh, I'm going to attempt to give it new potting soil. :\
HERE'S HOPING IT'S NOT DEAD
And much love to the other HD mods <3 Sorry I haven't been around lately :(

Sister's birthday was pretty cool. I got drunk; I therefore consider the party a success. She's recently adopted a kitten - his name is Oscar. He bites, farts, and attacks your feet. The rest of him is perfectly adorable.
I found a dress for the cruise. Go me!
And how are you?
