Misconceptions and Stereotypes'Throughout history, there was quite a bit of stereotyping and gender bias about women joining the military. There are still some people who believe that women should be restricted to specific limited roles. During the years, people could not understand why a woman would want to do a "man's job."
Today, women are filling many "nontraditional" jobs in the civilian world, as well as in the military. Women are joining the military for many of the same reasons men are, such as patriotism, education and training.
