Another political season
I really hate having to pay attention to politics, it's so boring. Which is why I have those little e-mails sent to me from the Dems, even though they're pretty dumb. They're just so... excitable and poorly written.

The DADT thing didn't pass. You probably heard.

Next month I'll be voting in Virg for Governor here, looks like. Apparently the Republican ticket is pretty damn anti-choice. Suddenly the billboards with chubby babies saying "Elections have consequences" mean something. Funny how we don't have those supporting welfare.

Snyder has said he opposes abortion except in cases of rape, incest and where the life of the mother is endangered - but not if it threatens a mother's physical or mental health.

Calley opposes abortion in all cases, and has even opposed contraception measures for rape victims, Bernero said.

Definitely not okay with these two. Perhaps Calley is a tea party crazy Snyder has pulled in to appeal to the radical right? But I don't know a lot about the ballot so I'll be educating myself in the next few weeks. Might volunteer too. "Political activist" is such a snazzy title.

Some guy I know basically said he doesn't think women should be allowed more than three abortions. He immediately backtracked when I just kept saying "What? WHAT?" but he, of course, had a story about a teenager who had eight abortions before she was eighteen, and my god, wasn't that terrible? Uh, sure. If that's actually true, and not just gossip. But it's still her choice, not yours.

Anyway, my views on abortion and fetuses in general has changed so much it's astounding and I feel a bit like an alien when I talk to other people about it.

I'm still a waitress :\ But at least I have a job, amirite?

Aaaaah! That's not even funny! Well, no, okay, it would probably be funny for about a day or so, maybe, and then, OMG, not even! *shudders*

I think this year I'm basically just going to go in, vote Democrat, and drown my sorrows in a bag of Doritos. I can't bring myself to look up what anyone stands for--I wouldn't even vote, except for my fear that the Republicans will manage to be even more evil than I imagine.

Yeah, fear of republicans makes me vote more than love of dems, which is pretty sad, really. What I don't get is how people are so disappointed with Obama. He's done okay.

Well, the fact that he didn't make it clear during his election that he didn't really care about health care, his opinions on reproductive and gay rights, and his refusal to treat the Republicans like the hostile bastards they are?

That said, I pretty much can't stand the entire party right now, and he's just one person in it.

The problem with the abortion debate is that the anti-abortion people tend to forget how essential women and how childbirth affects their lives are to this debate and focus more on babies/fetuses. I nearly got into it with my anti-abortion uncle when he was visiting, but pointing that out made him move away from the arguement.

Don't we eat ourselves anyways?

that's because people like to think about women as virgins or whores and only whores get abortions, I guess. idk, but the baby thing drives me mad. Fetii aren't babies, abortion isn't infanticide.

We eat each other. Not our own feet. Or maybe we do. I haven't been around lately.

I find that it helps if, instead of saying that you believe in a woman's right to govern her own body or whatever, you say things like, "I think it's morally wrong for the government to force women to give birth against their will." It kind of forces people to think about what's actually happening, here. That's also why a lot of pro-choice activists online have started referring to the "pro-life" people (who are really only "pro-life" until the kid's born, and then they're "fuck you") as "forced birth supporters". It's all about the messaging.

And we have a comm for unfunny fandom wanks now?

PJ ignores the mod queue on UFB for extended periods. Periodically, she goes through and rejects everything (or sometimes just fandom things, you know, depending) because she's sick of seeing unfunny on her friendslist.

I find this immensely entertaining.

I go through wank report from time to time, but there just doesn't seem to be much but fighting mice and more unfunny. I want internet slapfights! Why aren't there more stupid internet slapfights?

INORITE? It made me laugh and laugh. It's too bad there hasn't been more of an explosion over it, because it would be perfect for OTF. XD

It would go to wankitywank; that's what happens. I see it as her response to the "when in doubt, post to UFB" suggestions. (She even basically says that in the thread.)

I thought she intended it as a community mostly to take unfunny discussion threads off of wanks and leave the mockery intact. (And take the occasional general unfunny discussion post, sure.) She rejected posts for being funny for awhile, I know.

I think the project is fundamentally failing, because unfunny comments are a more often a function of commenters than the wank reports themselves (though, yeah, bad wank reports don't help in that respect). People who come here for SRS BZNS discussions on unfunnybusiness are just going to expand those discussions throughout the wank communities in general.

Funny how we don't have those supporting welfare.

Yeah, I've noticed this, too. I find it fascinating (also, sad) that people are all for forcing women to have children and not for supporting higher education, daycare, health care, welfare, etc. How do they expect women to deal with the pregnancy and the resulting children? I don't get it. Even if all such children are put up for adoption, there are health issues here-- and, beyond that, no jobs around me actually have any sort of maternity leave. What universe do they live in?

What universe do they live in?

The universe where they are RIGHT and everyone else is WRONG and also GOD GOD GOD OMG GOD. Also, GOD.

And plus it helps that they think of babies as being a just punishment for all those dirty whores out there having horrible dirty sex, rather than thinking of them as, you know, children.

Damn, I am all over your post here, aren't I? I'm sorry!

Perhaps Calley is a tea party crazy Snyder has pulled in to appeal to the radical right?

Actually, from what I'm aware, the tea party people tried to block Calley's nomination, on the premise that he isn't right-wing enough on financial policies. No lie. It's kind of scary. D:

Oh, I wouldn't worry about that. Off-shot communities come, off-shot communities go. If there are too many, some get no use and people forget them, problem solved.

Wait, what? If that story is even true, did he stop to consider how young that would make her during many of those pregnancies?

Every small town has a story about some girl who "used abortion for birth control." No one is ever able to supply specifics of any kind, or wonders why everyone in town apparently knows some minor's confidential medical information.
