Arse usage
I have a question.

Is the word arse a replacement for ass in the UK? I ask because the only time I've heard "arse" is from an Irish accent. I just wanted to know if it's actually spelt "arse" in the UK (since it's slang) or if it's just spelt this way to reflect an accent.

I have a strong English background, and this is why I ask. I read so much fic these days that I don't notice the usage of arse over ass anymore, but I find that "arse" seems to be overcompensating the Brit-pick-ish-ness.

Can anyone help?

I know you asked this a while ago, but in case you've not got an answer, then yes. It's arse. Always arse. Ass is starting to enter our vocabulary, but almost everybody still uses arse and it sounds wrong to me when I hear somebody over here saying 'ass'.

Thanks! I did get my answer, but it's nice to have input as well.
It's just odd to me because my dad (who is a Scouser) doesn't say arse. But that may be because he's lived in Canada for a majority of his life.
