I'm really tempted to fandom_wank the anti-turtlecest comm on DA, but their hilarious flouncing was a week ago. What do you guys think?
I swear to god, I didn't mean to get into TNMT porn.
EDIT: The instigator is 16, so I've just link-dumped what I found under lock. |

Huh. No one has yet posted the SPN fandom breakdown relating to this past episode to CW or F_W.
Should I, shouldn't I... |

[Oct. 30th, 2008|11:05 pm] |
Hi! It's been a while.
I was talking to harrylovesron earlier about bible verses. Here, have one of my current favorites:
When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets: Then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity. (Deut. 25:11-12)

How interesting. Clearly, Anil Dash has either learned something or knew more than was apparent during the SA/LJ blow up. |

I was trying to check the spn_summerlove fic exchange page and accidentally misspelled it "spn_sumerlove". And now I'm trying to figure out what sort of Supernatural story you could have that's set in ancient Mesopotamia. Maybe in the city of Ur, on the banks of the Euphrates.
No, I don't know. My brain is weird when i have to work 13-hour days. |

I give up. On Supernatural, on the fandom, on certain people who don't understand that the world does not revolve around what they would do in a particular situation.
Note: Spoilers for the last episode of SPN in the link. But mostly I just need to point out that Ataniell is a raging douche. IF I watch any more of the show, I'm gonna watch it at home. But I think she may have killed it for me. |

So the weekend's been fun. I blew off leading the family seder because it looked like no one actually wanted to perform the ritual besides me, and went to a religious friend's place. Five people, but so much fun. A couple glasses of wine loosened everyone up and we all eventually made fun of the haggadah. And had philosophical conversations about God's reasons for killing Egyptians. And debated the age of certain Talmudic rabbis at length.
Not often I'm with a group of people and more than half now and are willing to sing the grace after the meal with me (and know the Hebrew school tune. :D)
Sunday I went to the Cherry Blossom Festival, which was mostly awesome. I ended up handing out the consolation prizes for the costume contest and got a full set of teeny Naruto plushies, a couple of keychains and a huge Cat-Kyo plush for the trouble. Me and friends hung out, people watched, bought shit we had no money for (well, okay, I bought mom some pieces of fabric, and myself food.)
I apparently scared my ex-roomates too. It's been a year since they kicked me out and we've only been at one other event together, and pretty much successfully avoided each other there. I turned around yesterday, noticed one of the exes and nudged my friend (I wasn't paying attention and thought he was someone else.) He caught me looking, grabbed the others, who were sitting next to him, and immediately took off. I feel like I should be amused that I have that much power over them.
After that, we all went to Pika Pika, which is a store that has all of these Japanese photobooths, the kind that are uber-expensive and elaborate and you can choose the background, and four or six of the ten pictures, and then decorate the pictures after. There are several pictures that feature My Boobs because I was wearing a really low-cut top and a bra that kind of sucked.
And then dad took me and mom out to eat at this nice restaurant that serves a Passover menu during the holiday, and did a Two-Minute Seder mom found online. Our servers were deeply amused by that. We ended up giving the printed out seder thing to our waitress because she liked it. |

| | Fan-Fucking-tastic | ] | You know, I'm having a few moments of schadenfreude over the whole IJ fuck-up. After all the people who decided to leave LJ because they couldn't trust them, and look how wonderful Squeaky is (ignore how ugly the site is), and he'll never betray us, and his site runs so well-- and now look.
Possibly I'm even more amused since Lightning War, Ataniell's MASSIVE game, just moved over to IJ because LJ betrayed them, just like JKR is all sucky now, and they are "very attached to the idea that when they wake up in the morning everything in their game will be where they left it." If the server death deleted a fuckton of the LW stuff, I will LOL and LOL. She talks about that game way too much. I need the schadenfreude to stay sane. |

What the fuck is wrong with Livejournal NOW?
Also, I'm prety sure the webcomic Wicked Alchemy has ripped off my favorite tabletop RPG, In Nomine (for some reason I can't find a site with a rundown of all the angels and demons, so you could see that the angelic and demonic types are pretty much identical to the comic's.)
I'm bewildered, and not sure if I should tell someone. |

I'm pleased with today. Because I was talking to Sep last night, he reminded me today was April Fool's. So I turned my girlfriend's layout obnoxiously pink (and made a post that other people responded to, thus insuring she'd see.) And then I overthrew my fellow moderators on topmodel in a glorious Communist revolution!
... although that was totally spur of the moment, and I didn't do much besides de-mod everyone and turn the background of the comm eye-bleedingly red.
All in all, good day! And now to go get the new Dresden Files book. :D |

I knew I should have just ignored those "feminist" blogs and gone to bed. But no, I had to go look. Anti-porn-- okay, I can sort of understand it, even if I totally and utterly disagree. Anti-prostitution-- I think they're fucking over truly great feminist movements towards de-criminalizing prostitution and making it the sort of job where women DON'T have to get raped and beaten without anywhere to turn, but... I suppose I see where they're coming from.
But god, the AGEISM. I went looking and apparently, since most feminists my age are pretty pro-porn and pro-sex work, we don't understand feminism and it's been watered down by patriarchal institutions (nevermind that I'm somewhere between bisexual and lesbian, my grandmother and great-aunt were feminists and socialists who knew Emma Goldman, and my mother was a DIE-HARD second-wave feminist-- of course my mother also married a man, so what does she know?) I just... it's not so much that that's the worst thing the group said, not with the weird race, class, sex, and gender biases, so much as it is sort of the straw that broke the camel's back. Just seeing how little respect these women have for the experiences of people who are coming from a different place... it turns my stomach.
I hope someone punches me in the face if I ever turn into that sort of activist. |

I don't think there's anyone in the SF/bay area who reads this journal but not my LJ, but I figure a pimp here couldn't hurt.
I'm planning to run a theater-style LARP for between 5-12 people sometime in the next few weeks. I don't know if I have enough people and I'd love to have new people in my games. If you or someone you know is interested, see this post in my LJ. |

[Feb. 9th, 2008|04:31 pm] |
RE: Supernatural
All of Dean's problems stem from the yellow-eyed demon barbecuing mommy, and none of it comes from John's parenting skills (or lack thereof)? Bwuh? Really?
I mean, at their root, I suppose they all really come from YED killing mom, because if mom was alive, presumably Dean would have had a normal home life, but still. Just because YED was the catalyst you'd think John's occasionally odd douchetastic misplaced parenting decisions would still be part of the equation. |

| Shameless pimping! |
[Jan. 18th, 2008|11:19 am] |
I am a shameless ho for Sweet Charity this round!
I've offered up two fics of 2000 words in any fandom I know, at any rating, with any pairing. (I will even write Milo/Adrian! And Sam/Dean and-- ANYTHING! :D) I'm easy, a real floozy for charity.
I've also offered up either two dozen cookies of any type or two dense chocolate cake loafs. Yay, baking!
Because people are awesome and bidding all over the place, the server's going up and down like a yo-yo, but by this evening it should be working at full capacity (I hope).
Should somebody pimp this thing in fandom_lounge? |

| Oh thank you, Snarkman, for saving me from my squee! |
[Jan. 16th, 2008|09:08 am] |
Oh gosh, how could I have been so wrong? I certainly shouldn't have been showing off something that was created especially for me and that I enjoyed! I should have been shamed into silence because it's a terrible fanvid and anyone could have done better (nevermind that Dresden Files is not that popular and making vids really isn't that easy...)
It's a locked post, but since it's my lock I feel there's no problem reproducing the comment here. >:(
(RE: the Dresden Files fanvid that I was pimping) Nerdfury: Two questions burn at the forefront of my mind, and I'm unsure which is more prevalent - how is this a 'prize' and how is this 'good'? Or a good prize?
It's a poorly spliced together amalgamation of scenes that happen to contain Morgan, to an alright song. There's no attempt to make it relevant to the song, or lip-sync, or animate it. It's just random scenes to a mildly related song. You can do it with five minutes of Windows Movie Maker.
I... wut? I mean, I'm perfectly willing to admit that it's not as technically accomplished as some vids I've seen. But it was made for me, with a song I like, about a character who really gets no love in the fandom. What was up with the negativity?
Of course, looking at his profile page he apparently takes solace in being an asshole under the cover of "snark" and "being cynical" so there is that. |

chicafrom3, the awesomest vid-maker to ever win the internets made me a Dresden Files vid during the last round of Sweet Charity, so here it is (description shamelessly stolen from Chica's journal):
Title: Straighten Up And Fly Right Vidder: chicafrom3 Song: Straighten Up And Fly Right Artist: Dianne Reeves Fandom/Characters: The Dresden Files - Warden Morgan Description: Morgan is Not Impressed.
Vid can be found [HERE] or at Chica's journal.
I am amazed and pleased-- my only contributions were to bid in the auction, ask for a Morgan vid, and suggest the song. I am in awe, y'all. Mmmm, Morgan ♥ |

I need your opinions, my friends.
You see in this LJ post about the whole daily_deviants miscegenation stupidity, I mentioned a book I found at the Stanford library: Interracial Dating Guide For Black Women Who Want to Date White Men by Adam White (psued.)
I had to return the book when I left the Stanford job, but the guy must have been googling his name or something, because yesterday I got an email from him.
( Text of the email pretty much makes it obvious it's real )
Since he offered me an email address where I could request a "review PDF" of his new book, The White Man's Guide to Dating Black Women, I took him up on the offer and asked if I could get a copy.
He sent me one. Just now. And I am really tempted to post a bunch of choice excerpts and make a lot of fun of him.
Question is, y'all, should I? I mean, he must have gotten my email from somewhere-- I'm not on any email lists that he might have spammed. That link above is the only place I remember mentioning him even in passing.
So should I make fun of him where he can see? Or should I just pass around this PDF (if you want it, just ask) so other people can see it? |

David Anders is younger than both Milo and Masi.
For some reason I find this amusing. |

I'm pretty sure I'd get the stink-eye for posting this in fandom_lounge or random_lounge, so here's good.
I don't know how many of you guys have watched America's Next Top Model, but elysesewell, America's Third To Next Top Model (first season), sexy geek, and blogger just dumped her boyfriend (Martin Crandall, of the hipster band, The Shins) for getting drunk and trying to beat her.
Oh yeah, and he accused her domestic abuse too so she got to go to jail for the night and learn interesting things... like that all the guards watched ANTM.
I just felt like it was something people might be interested to know. (Oddly, her post is still amusing-- girl's got flair.) |
