6:18 pm - More House/Wilson hilarity.
[info]lilapaddy will never stop bringing the lulz, but I think I love her for more inciting this amazing treasure trove of comments. Apparently in a recent interview, House creator David Shore pretty much said something to the likes of, "Yeah, while we play around with slashy subtext every once in awhile, we're never going to make House/Wilson canon, you deluded, deluded fools."

Cue outrage.

A sampling of the amazing histrionics: )

Oh [info]house_wilson, never change!

To follow that insane Firefly feminist rant, here's a reasonable and actually thoughtful post on eroticized male torture in Whedon's work. What's even better is watching Whedonesque scramble to justify some pretty reasonable points.

Well, from the point of an author, torture is extremly interesting. It is a way to "force" people, to allow a view inside thier character, that they would normaly never expose.
It's a great symbol too, and a lot of the human mythology is based on the idea, of people taking pain for others.

(Misspelt words and typos. Oh Whedonesque, in your prime, you would have smacked this person down for that alone. You're getting soft.)

. . .

... okay, so Joss likes women over men. Is that news?

I have to admit, as a writer and a reader, I do enjoy seeing my favorite male characters suffer. Both emotionally and physically. Says a lot about me I guess *shrug* but hey, at least I’m true to myself ;)

(This is from, I'm guessing, a heterosexual female. Which kinda just drives the point home.)

. . .

Though it did lead to Nathan's best performance on the show. When he says "you wanna meet the real me now?", stunning acting. (Which is completely besides the point, but thanks for playing.)

I feel like a lot of this material can extend to a great deal of torture and h/c fan fiction in any fandom (though Whedon's a good place to start because of its clear feminist leanings).

Got this off Whedonesque (since deleted, of course): "A Rapist's View of World: Joss Whedon and Firefly".

See what happens when you let women out of the kitchen? My favorite excerpt:

I feel awful for Joss Whedon's wife. From what I've read about him and the interviews I've watched, I'm fairly certain that he rapes his wife and abuses her in various other ways.

Damn, the House/Wilson community is like a trainwreck that I can't stop watching. It's filled with amazingly stupid posts (to give a very small sampling, these were just on the front page alone), but I keep coming back to it (usually in hopes of some decent fics, which it occasionally does provide).

I'm just gobsmacked by the idea that people live from week to week sincerely believing that it will be this episode that House and Wilson will declare their love for each other and have lots of ass sex. That's a lot of dashed hopes and butt hurt to live with.

Woah, it's been awhile.

I am currently congested and feverish with my second successive illness since the start of the semester, and it just sucks. My head feels both heavy and my awareness expansive, staring out at the vast internet wasteland dully.

My cell phone, the only means of communication out right now, is sitting in my car, and I can't be arsed to throw on a heavy coat and go get it because it takes an immense amount of will to move my achey body.

I think my students are all diseased cretins this semester, because this has never happened to me before.

Finally, my kittens have reached the mutual licking lesbian stage. For awhile there, I thought they'd be in Death Match mode over each other forever and now I get to giggle like a little school girl every time I see them make out. Yes, I can be two. I've spent an absurd amount of money on these kittens, so I demand payment in entertainment.

Of course, they still have a tendency to bite down on each other's throats when licking them. Maybe they're vampire cats. As a Buffy fan, this is exciting.

3:56 pm - Twice the numbers of journals, twice the spammage.
Today learned I got the position in the sprint course I wanted, which precludes getting a paid part-time job after it's done, huzzah! In addition to teaching 2 classes this semester and my usual course load, plus the added fun stress of putting my committee and reading list together, boo. However, the position also is open to pretty nice wage increases second semester, huzzah! But my Monday nights will be swallowed up in this three-hour course until October 8th, plus the 45-minute commute from the campus to my apartment, boo.

I'm also anxiously awaiting payment for the Nikon I sold on eBay. Do banks just take a ridiculously long time (which, to me, is apparently on the third business day so far, so okay, perhaps not) to transfer funds? I swear my eBay transactions have always gone much more quickly than this, but then again, I think I've always used credit, so there's that. Hmm.

8:50 pm - Such a spazz, I was.
Can you believe I've had this thing since 2003? And I didn't update at all in 2005, not even to say, "I haven't updated this thing in awhile." I'm only motivated to post something now because of all this LJ brouhaha (though I have not been creating porntastic Harry Potter art of recently and have no ban-worthy vices save for being intensely boring). Looking back through all my old entries here is a bit like watching an old VHS tape of that time my grandfather filmed my five-year-old self singing an improvised song about a cat. For ten minutes.

Speaking of cats, I have since purchased two of them, kittens, really. They are gaseous. They love to destroy my worldly possessions and/or coat them in fur, and then try and make out with me later in pathetic consolation.

eta: updated with photo!

I am almost finished my master's degree, which is a bit frightening in the "What the fuck am I going to do now?" variety. Christ, I live in Ohio and own a car with a Jesus fish stuck on the back of it.

...um, that's about all, actually. Life in academia is not exactly fast-paced on a grand scale. I need new icons. All my old ones were, oh, so 2004.
