Ya know, after all the years of this debate in fandom it's nice* to know that there are still people out there that Just. Don't. Get. It. about why calling a fictional female a slut is just as bad as calling a real female one.
For the record, it's just as bad because it's not about real vs. fictional. It's about the attitude that underlines using the word, especially in circumstances where the character/person can not, BY ANY DEFINITION OF THE WORD, be considered "slutty".
And if anyone out there can explain what the difference is between calling Ginny a slut and using the term "on her" I'd really appreciate it, because that "distinction" made me go :/ o_0 D:
*And I mean "nice" in a headdesk-so-hard-there-is-now-a-divot-in-the-wood sense.

Well, I broke down and saw Twilight. Not the best, but not the worst I've ever seen. Some of my quick impressions/thoughts:
*The vampire baseball scene was actually pretty cool; one of the few times that the film score wasn't completely lame. *The dialog was so cheesy we could have used a few glasses of wine. You could so easily pick out the bits that came straight out of the book, especially the lion/lamb dorkish-ness. It was actually pretty hilarious. *Debussy's Claire de lune was featured somewhat prominently at one point, and I don't think I can ever listen to it again. One of the most beautiful pieces of music in the world is now tainted. TAINTED, I tell you! *I thought that the way they contrasted Bella and Edward's "maturity" with the "normal" teenagers was extremely heavy-handed. Way to be subtle, guys. *rolls eyes* *SMeyer had a cameo in the flick and I didn't know about it. When she appeared on screen I had a GASP! GET IT AWAY! GET IT AWAY! kind of moment. Scariest. Part. Of. The. Movie. *Note to Summit: next time you want to make a movie that involves people who can run super-duper fast and climb trees effortlessly please, for the love of God, SPEND MOAR. For real. The FX were so ridiculous that all I could do was cringe. It wasn't even funny. *Most unintentionally hilarious part of the movie: not only does Edward *sparkle* in the sunlight, but he also makes this bell-ringing *~shinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng*~ kind of noise as he does. And that is THE SKIN OF A KILLER!. Actually, that was damn near death by ROFL. *RPattz and KStew wear the exact - EXACT - same color of lipstick.

I am about to descend into Hell begin reading the (presumed actual) Twilight screenplay (link thoughtfully provided by sheep). If you do not hear from me, either here or on LJ, within forty-eight hours you can assume that my brain imploded from teh suck. Mourn me not, dear friends. Just send plenty of lip gloss.

Seriously, what the hell is up with this madderbrad dude? I know he's watching my journal because he keeps cropping up like the proverbial bad penny on entries that, however lightly, touch on my HP shipping preferences. Yet when I put up an entry intended to start a genuine dialog about the FACTS of the Harry/Ginny foreshadowing/relationship (as opposed to everyone's opinion on the quality of said relationship) he doesn't come anywhere near. Which really just confirms my belief that people like him just want to bitch about what they didn't like, and for all their talk not a single one of them is interested in truly discussing a damned thing.
If any of you folks around here want to join either discussion I linked to please do so. I'd welcome another voice.

Why is it that books/movies/television etc. never seem to address the problem of "morning breath" and its potentially devastating impact on wake-up sex?
Seriously, any smutty wake-up sex plot bunny I get dies an ignominious death because of this issue.

This is why I can never be comfortable taking vacation time.
Apparently the copy machine started flashing the "Low Toner" message last Wednesday. But rather than anyone calling the toll free phone number that is emblazoned in BIG RED NUMBERS on the front of the machine to order more someone decides that they'll just right down that we need more on the "Supplies" message board.
We could have had more toner on hand right now if someone - ANYone - had shown one ounce of initiative. Instead we have to wait for about another three days after I called to order more this morning.

| A (sort of) review of Movie!OOTP |
[12 Jul 2007|10:51am] |
|
I think I should preface this review by saying that OOTP is pretty much my least favourite of the books. It's more or less a tie between OOTP and COS at the bottom of my personal list. However, I don't deny the good things about the book.
The unfortunate truth is most of those good things were missing from the movie.
( Whaddya mean Sirius dies? )
I'll probably think of some more things, both good and bad, but this'll do for now.
Oh, and I did like the exchange of looks between Harry and Tonks during the flight to 12 GP. Little chemistry there? I've always kind of liked Harry/Tonks as a fanon ship, but never actively looked into it. That'll be changing, fer shure. :D
