I figured I'd post this here too. Sorry if you see it more than once.
Thursday, the sakura bloomed. Friday, I saw Bleach myu. Saturday daytime, I went to the Tokyo International Anime Fair. Saturday evening, I saw X Japan live.
...It's a bit like "Tonde! Mawatte! Mata Raishuu!", except a billion times better.

I wasn't supposed to go to Burimyu this time around. I had no money last November and so decided to give it a miss. However, a week ago, Hinoai mentioned that she had a ticket to sell, so I bought it!
( Rock Musical Bleach: The Live, Bankai Code 002 )
The queue was massive. It stretched from the heart of the Big Sight, down the road, across the Dream Bridge and almost to Palette Town. It was so long that even professional staff photographers were taking photos of the man holding the 'end of queue' sign with the Palette Town ferris wheel in the background. I really wasn't keen on all those cameramen photographing the queue, to be honest.
We waited for so long that a couple approached us and sold us their ticket at the presale rate. They just couldn't be bothered waiting any longer.
( Tokyo International Anime Fair )
In my teens, I discovered X Japan through a random download of Forever Love and subsequently bought as many live albums as I could. The lives have an even greater power than the studio recordings. I sang along knowing I could never be amongst that audience. Never.
Until now. You can't imagine how much this live meant. It's a chance I thought I'd missed ten years ago.

I check the BBC News mobile site every morning on the train. The other day I saw "Rowling 'exploited' by book plan" and somehow -- somehow! -- I already knew the full story and more.

Somehow I need to get over the fact that I'm not at university anymore and even if I stay up late to meet deadlines, I have to get up in the morning.
Even so, I still want anyone reading to spam this post.

I really wish Americans would realise that when they say 'hey, look at this interesting article I found in The Sun' that it's exactly the same as a Brit saying 'hey, look at this interesting article I found in The National Enquirer'.
You know?
[Edit: For the record, this isn't about the post just below this one on your flist. But the article in question (and others) has been repeatedly linked on LJ.] |

| 「今日から、あなたはマ王です!」 |
[May. 13th, 2004|10:06 pm] |
Hm, Livejournal seems to be down, so I'm posting here for now.
Finally watched anime on a computer with enough processing power, that could read the CDs, and had all the correct codecs in order. The one I saw was 今日からマ王 (Kyou Kara Maou - is that spelt weirdly or what?), which I only have the first episode of, but I want to see more of it. XS put it on the disk thinking I would like it, and she was definitely right! For those who haven't seen it, it's the comedy where the ordinary Japanese schoolboy gets flushed down the toilet into a fantasy setting where he's their Maou. It was the chibi ending sequence that really did it for me though, I think. Guntar has a little <3 when chasing after Yuuri! Another one I'll be downloading "when" I get broadband.
Yuuri - Sakurai Takahiro (Fakir in Princess Tutu!) Guntar - Inoue Kazuhiko (Yuki in Gravitation!) Konrad - Morikawa Toshiyuki (Tatsumi in Yami no Matsuei!) Gwendel - Ootsuka Akio (Azami from Weiß Kreuz Dramatic Precious!) Wolfram - Saiga Mitsuki (I liked his voice, so I looked her up. She was Jing in Ou Dorobou Jing, and Makubex in Get Backers.)
Here's the official site.
Then I went down to the library. Water was dotting the pavement, and the light filtered through the clouds at a strange angle. As i walked along, I saw a full, unbroken rainbow! There was even a second faded one sitting atop it. |

| | Xena in the background... | ] | Update!
Much happier now. I drank several pints of tea and watched the first two episodes of Taiho Shichau zo Live. Dreadful over-acting, implausible storylines, and pretty actors and actresses. I love my gritty police dramas! If I ever get my hands on broadband, I'm downloading the Sailor Moon Live, because it'll probably be just as good. And AbaRanger - I saw that on tv one morning and somehow got addicted. I guess I just have an affinity for tackiness -- I would kill work as a florist for a Live-Action Weiß series.
The next thing I watched was the Chrono Trigger OAV, which was quite bizarre. It was not what I was expecting (I didn't even know it was on that CD for a start!). It was pretty crude fantasy slapstick which featured a guy that turned into a motorcycle and spoke pseudo-English. This amused me because I recognised the voice instantly -- Miki Shin'ichirou!! According to the credits, Okiayu-san was there too, but I shamefully did not notice. ^^;;
And it seems we have somewhere to go, once our flatmate moves out... the rent will, at the very least, be £60 (US$110) cheaper too and comes with broadband, PS2 and, hopefully, a CAT! The only rule is that we can't complain when our potential flatmate-to-be watches Yuugiou... but we can mock. Perhaps this will work out after all. I'll have a proper look at the flat soon. |

| | E Nomine - Lucifer | ] | Did anyone see the recent amusement in otf_wank? Basically, the poster pointed to Benton County, the place where they've banned all marriages until the gay marriage debate is settled, and described that behaviour as wanky. Everyone pointed out she was talking nonsense - it was great.
Now it's deleted. ;_;
Except, for some reason, I had an extra window open at the discussion and I saved it when I realised it was gone. Just how wankish would it be to repost it at otf_wank? Or here? |

| | E Nomine - Lucifer | ] | Right, I'm going to bed. I've been functioning on four hours of sleep all day, and so I commented slightly hastily when I saw a post in Wolf's Rain that basically said that if you can't wait a couple of months for the licensed DVD you can go to (link) for bootlegs. It might be wank, I can't tell because I'm half-asleep and (if you check the link) amusingly incoherent. If not, I think think it will be by morning. Incoherent or wanky - not sure.
*Rereads her posts to the thread and facepalms.* Nope, that'll be in I_Wank tomorrow morning... |

| | Schneider TM - The Light 3000 | ] | The phrase "openly homosexual ship" as used in a recent Harry Potter wank amuses me, because it hints of wrongness. And now I just need to decide if The Black Pearl is seme or uke...
The 'slash = OOC' argument irritates me. Because it goes against what the creator intended? Whether it's a beautiful raven-haired fangirl turning up and pairing off with the hero, or two team-mates realising that they're in love and screwing like bunnies, none of it's what was intended because they never showed it. I suspect (from what little I know of the series) that if you rewrote X/1999 as a comedy it would fall into this category as well. Perfectly harmless, and parody is generally accepted as a valid response to material, but it's still not what the creator intended. Anime/manga fandoms are somewhat different in that it's pretty much expected that fanworks will be produced. I'm sure Weiß Kreuz would be considered a failure if fangirls didn't go out and produce yaoi doujinshi! But we still get the slash = OOC argument anyway.
(Except, of course, the 'what the author intended' argument doesn't really work in my fandom. Aya has two interpretable sexualities to me - gay and Suesexual. He's either going to start humping his team-mates or a girl just like you!)
And why just slash? Most people will add after wankage 'oh, but I don't like OOC het relationships either!' Because they have to say that. There's still a definite feeling that heterosexual relationships are the default, and slash is getting in the way of the 'obviously straight' characters.
Uh, after all that, go download a trailer for a new BLgame-based anime. I must confess though, it made me giggle! |

Even though I have my earphones turned up high, I can still hear them reading out every plot twist while my flatmate plays. >_< Plus I'd rather hear the Japanese voice actors anyway -- Suwabe Jun'ichi-san! Nakai Kazuya-san! Ishikawa Hideo-san! [Edit: Hm, those would be the seiyuu in the original. Who are the new VA?]
Oh! And if anyone didn't know - weiss_kreuz is now a JF community! Do join!
I'm currently feeling very left out -- almost every post on my LJ flist is about Tennis no Oujisama (or the radio show... or the musical...), an anime I haven't seen even one episode of. |
