Didn't think I'd post again so soon, but.. Raf told me that there was a new FFAC trailer. See... now. Personally, I wasn't impressed. Firstly, the sound wasn't timed correctly. I don't think my computer was lagging, but it was definetly off. That.. took away from any positive impression I could have fathomed. Honestly... it doesn't look like they've made much improvement from FF : Spirits Within. Yes.. it's still impressive.. but it's not obtaining what they're aiming for. The characters aren't human. One of the faculty at my college said something to our class... He said "If you can do it in live action, then you shouldn't have animated it in the first place." Or something along those lines. What I didn't see in FFAC was exageration. Now, I know they're going for realism, and by exaggeration I don't mean extreme squash and stretch action.. but. Body movement, for one thing.. and following a close second would have to be mouth and facial expression. Sure, your mouth may seem that closed, and may not move that much when you talk.. but I presonally think you should exagerrate that more than what you see in everyday life. It conveys the feeling better, the expresses their emotion to a "truer" extent. I didn't see that in the trailer ::shakes head::. I guess I won't be as disappointed now when it finally comes out... I wonder.. if they had an classical animator's on their team for this... I wonder this because even if you are the best 3D computer animator out there.. if you don't know the basics, your animation won't be jack all. I think square-enix too caught up in the technical aspects of their works. Just because somethings scientifically and mechanically correct in all aspects doesn't mean it'll have a life to it. I think their characters are missing their "souls"... they have the bodies down to every last detail.. but the life just isn't there. |
