Current music:Frou Frou - Let Go

Incredibly.. something.
I have the urge to write I suppose [although I should really be blogging in my personal blog about the past winter break, and the issues that I've talked to my parents about.. which is actually encouraging for a change].

Went and saw The Incredibles today with Sha. The roads were terrible *_*~ I was 2 inches from the steering wheel, hunched over like Quasimodo [splt?] trying to see where the defroster had melted past the freezing rain on my windshield [I ran out of windshield wiper fluid.. And in that rain and snow filled weather.. You need it. Trust me.]

Anyways. The Incredibles: Or even.. before that. Aboundin' I believe it was called. Terrible. I'm sorry. But that, in my opinion, was Pixar's WORST animated short up to date. Yes, the graphics were stunning, the movement was impressive, athe acting was very nice [although I wasn't hot on the character designs].. but the story. .. the story ::shakes head:: ...

Pixar's impressive movie line-up ever since the premier of their Studio with Toy Story has practically ALWAYS been story driven. I ask you: How many fanarts have you seen or done of Buzz Lightyear? of Flik? Of Nemo? The fact is, despite their beautiful graphics, the characters are not what draw people to Pixar's films. Pixar's ability to allow growth OF the characters in their films is also very limited.. the only real exception I can think of would be Dori [splt], but I feel that she stood out because her personality was more of a stereotype and easy to place and identify with. She deals with issues that nearly everyone can relate too: Abandonment. Nearly everyone [I think] has felt abandoned.. isolated.. alone from other around them at one point in their life or another. How many people have lost a son.. or a daughter? How many people have had to go through the hardship of losing someone close to them? Realistically, the answer to that is A LOT.. but the target audience is children. Children who have parents.. and siblings, and grandparents that spoil them when they visit. A lost loved one compared to the general feeling of being abadoned or alone are fairly different in commonality.

[So many tangents]. Point being: Pixar IS story based. And when the story fails.. the movie fails.

In my opinion, this movie failed.

The Incredibles had wonderful jokes, humour, good acting, mediocre characters [although by no means attractive in my opinion and heavily under developed] amazing graphics and absoletly wonderful hair and clotheing movements [although I think they over did the clothes' folds just a little - the gravity of the cloth was impressive though]. But their story...

:: Spoilers ::

One of the things I learned in strybrding was that characters need to have Goals. What was Mr.Incredibles goal? To feel good about himself? To be juste and righteous? To save people? How does he obtain that goal? By going to an island completely away from the world and helping one private company that's main concern is money and their killer invention. Mr.S. What's his goal? To be a super. How does he go about achieving that goal? By threatening the world then saving it. But the world was never really threatened [which was Mr.S's point], however since the audience knows it's not threatened then there really isn't any tension there. Why be worried over the safety of the world if it was never in danger?

:: /Spoilers ::

To me, the story was weak. And so, the film was weak. Pixar just didn't seem to be focused in this one.

However, Edna was the highlight of the film for me. Darlings~
