This was more of a visual idea than anything written, but.. for the sake of logging it down, I'm gonna try. So, whilst sitting at Dennys with people after a movie, I thought about what if the internet -were- real.. in the sense of flesh, machine and phycsical information. I'm gonna throw out some reference to sort of give you heads up about what I have visually, in a sense. First off would be this artist I stumbled upon [that made me want to delve back into Maya like a fish out of water], whose background, and technical work just completely awed me. Seriously, his backgrounds had my head boggling. I kept having to tell myself that "no, he didn't model that all out in Maya.. he couldn't have. He'd be INSANE to do that." In anycase [LINK]. Second reference would be serial; .hack//sign, to be specific. Mostly, I'm thinking more along the lines of the main character (Tsukasa I think his name was) and how he was very plain, almost. He sort of lacked emotions of any varying degree, or just really put people off by not really caring. Lastly is just pretty much colour scheme and environment, but think TRON in this case. The blues, specifically. Blues, with some neons (Think Twilight Town, I guess) and a fair amount of red for the red light district. Basically, what I was imagining was a city with so much -stuff- in it like the first artist there. Lots of pipes, steam vents, lots of technical machinery (but not robots, or anything really "personified"), flying video screens, and advertisments EVERYWHERE. Everything would be automated. Like when you go into the subway, you can put in your little ticket, and it lets you through, simple as that. Those type of things would all be pretty much automatic for the character in this environment. Which leads to the second reference, I guess. In this City of the Internet.. there'd really only be the one occupant. You. Or the main character, in this case. Since, when we're online.. we never -actually- see anyone other than through video feeds. No one else really exists in this other reality of ours, does it? So imagine, if you will, your local large city... transfixed with an eerie almost-monochrome blue that leaves you in a continual non-daylight, but not darkness either.. and there's no one in it. No one moving but you, and the advertisments and machines around you. Sometimes, maybe, a street car would go buy empty.. but only because it's on tracks in the road, not because it has the freedom to move like a car or bus. But.. at the same time... you -know- other people exist. You know that someone -could- be right beside you, but you can't see them. And in that other persons city, which is idential to yours, they might be thinking the exact same thing. But you'll never see two people in one city. Despite the cities being identical. Every day you wander all through the city. The advertisments continual in their change, large screens displaying the latest news [through text, as opposed to people]. There'd be outlets EVERYWHERE where you could essentially plug in and access information. The information wouldn't really be displayed, but I guess essentially "downloaded" into you and you view it there. Think like the little pluggy things in the matrix. But probably not that "OMG IT'S IN YOUR NECK" big and chunky. You don't really have a break between "Day" and "Night".. but at some point.. you'll find yourself retaining less information. And when you come to.. you'll be back in the same place you always start at. A large railway station. The station is scarce in its design. It seems like only here is there no bright flashing signs, no red district lights, no advertisments. Here's it's quiet, and empty. To one end open up to the city. To the other... you -could- go out to the platforms where the trains -would- be. But you never go out to the platforms. And even if you did.. there wouldn't be any trains there. The never is. Just miles and miles of track leading into some mist you can't see the end of. Errr, yeah. I guess that's all I can get down for now. Supposed to be very desolate, but crowded.. Alive, but.. almost completely empty of life? It just seemed visually nice in my head. But, as almost always, there is no purpose behind it. No plot. It's like aviy said in a journal entry the other day.. no one cares to hear about the mundance and everyday. I guess it'd have to be more psychological.. loseing yourself in this city. I think I need to watch Lain. Mmm. Edit: Unless! The goal of the character is to escape the city.. and they either A) get a train, or B) run down the tracks desperately to escape.. but when they've gone through all their psychological bullshit and mind-warping, and think they've reached the end... they find themselves "waking up" back in the middle of the station. |
