Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Well, another Call of Cthulhu aim game is winding down and I'm not exactly sure how many players I actually have. I think Snacky took her chance to run when she had it, my sister is eaten alive by school monsters on a daily basis, I think the school monsters also eye Bernie's tender meatbits, but I assume Ann and Sharon are my willing serfs.

BUT I THINK I SHOULD ROUND UP SOME NEW PLAYERS.

FUN FACTS ABOUT GAMETIME WITH JOHN

1. We call it Call of Cthulhu, but none of us have read the rules. This hasn't caused any impeding.
2. Once I let them blow up an entire small town that tried to hang them as witches. Shows them what happens if you accuse my players of being witches!
3. I've gmed two games now, which means I actually have learned by now to read the module/how to actually do it. Feel the burning rays of my experience.
4. It's played by meeting for two hours once a week on aim. A log is kept.
5. No one's actually been tentacle raped yet.
6. So far the only character creation I've denied is my sister's wish to play a dog. Screw you, sis!

If anyone's interested, comment here for talkin'! Or email me at crantz at lj dot com.

#1 reminds me of how some of my friends and I would play "Dungeons & Dragons," despite the fact that we didn't go by any sourcebooks. Or use dice. Or even, sometimes, have character sheets.

we WERE going to read the rules, originally, but it turned out I had no attention span, bernie was a whore, doc was a whore, and Snacky kept forgetting. Ann tried though. Ann is awesome.

I never tried. The .pdf totally failed.

I did read the character sheets for the first game, but I could never remember anybody's names 'n shit ("Whore! Crazy poppet girl! Get over here."), including my own, so it didn't really count.

Also my constant cries of "I cast Magic Missile!" might have fooled you into thinking I knew what I was doing.

Did you cast it at the darkness? I try to do that all the time when I play tabletop D&D. And I almost never play magic-users.

I kept the email where John sent us who played who open all the time. Also the character sheet to remember whom I liked.

I did not! I read the whole thing! You sent like a bazillion pdfs and I kept every single one and would have them open every time we played.

Of course, I didn't understand any of it, since I think the rules were written in Klingon by a teenage nerd, then translated into Esperanto, then back into English by way of Babelfish, but I didn't forget.

:D Yeah, usually sunday afternoons or thursday evenings, depending on schedules.

I also do quick test stuff to make sure we both know what the other is doing, if you want that.

The next adventure we're going to be working on has this summary for the book I'm picking it from:

Trail Of Cthulhu goes to the movies. Pelgrane Press pays homage to the classic horror films of the 1930s with this 192-page page compendium of celluloid thrills and chills!
Trail Of Cthulhu creators Kenneth Hite and Robin D. Laws team up, marshalling their deep mastery of cinematic lore to bring you a landmark collection of Cthulhoid scenarios and source material. Shadows includes a dozen adventures and the new Backlot Gothic setting.

I got your emails! I have been working on a character; do you want to see her before I email her to the group, or should I just send her out? RE: scheduling, Mondays and every other Friday (like last night) are usually bad, but other weeknights I'm usually available starting around 6:30pm Pacific (sometimes earlier) and weekends are usually good whenever.

By a striking coincidence (or maybe not all that striking, really), I just emailed the time stuff to the group thing just before I got this comment. Go me!

I haven't done a character sheet yet, so I don't really have any questions yet, but I've got a character description! And it usually takes me forever to make a character, so I'm doing better than usual. I will post her for you, hold on.

Sally Smith is a tough-as-nails* Girl Reporter who'll do anything for a story. Some time after she won her second Pulitzer**, her beloved father*** was mysteriously killed by something horrifying and unknown****, and she's been hot on the trail ever since. She's vowed to track down the Truth, and with her nose for news****** and the enthusiastic backing of her editor*******, she's going to get to the bottom of this story if it kills her.

She's not real good with reality. But she's a great shot with a pistol!********

* Kinda weenie.

** The highest award she's ever gotten was for Best Attendance in elementary school.

*** He used to lock her in the attic when she misbehaved; she tried to kill him with a letter opener once when she was five, and the urge never left.

**** Actually, he died in a tragic glue-sniffing accident*****, but she thinks he saw something weird with tentacles once, so close enough.

***** It wasn't an accident.

****** It's more like a nose for making shit up, but she runs into the news eventually, sometimes, and she often convinces herself that the shit she makes up is true.

******* He barely remembers who she is, aside from "that girl who gets the coffee".

******** She's a danger to herself and others. Those who know her run fast and run far.

I looked it up on Wikipedia, the Pulitzer Prize for Reporting was first awarded in 1917. I don't know how prestigious they were then, though. I think the main guy who covered the Lindbergh Baby story got one.

I am intrigued! But I am also a cracky gamer.

Case in point. The setting: Forgotten Realms D&D. My epic-level rogue had a +5 vorpal food dehydrator. She made jerky out of EVERYTHING SHE COULD FIND. Including a unicorn that turned out to really be a goat.

...never mind. You don't want me there. LOL

...mmmunicornjerky.

I'm not sure if my players are cracky, but things do seem to get weird pretty fast. They take my offhand jokes and run with them. And then suddenly there's a recurring joke of Ann's character's elderly pipe wielding prostitute mother that served as a soldier in world war one and is a recurring informant for giant skull monsters. And she serves at the church. Ann mostly made all of that up, after I said 'You know what else as at this seedy dive? Your mom."

We have been all crankypants lately because we want to play in an RPG but our husbands are rules-monkeys of THE HIGHEST ORDER. They have all the gaming books and have them all memorized and we're always like, "Jeeez, guys, chill." I am too lazy to be a proper rulezmonkey. I do not like to read the rules.
