Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Back in December 2009, I posted this entry and thought y'all might like a repost for Halloween!:

Here are some fun horror comics I've read in recent memory!

I searched out the first one after reading today's Chainsaw Suit.

These are Japanese comics, so those of you who are unused to this format remember to read right to left.

First comic: The Enigma of the Amigara Fault

Summary: An earthquake has exposed strange holes in the side of a mountain, shaped like people. People flock from all over to see them, and begin entering them, saying that particular holes were 'made for them'. They then disappear.

Warnings: Some body horror. No blood or guts, but you see a body look a lot like gumby gone wrong very briefly.

Found this one by going 'that can't really be right' at a tvtropes entry.

Second comic: School Mermaid (first page here. Otherwise: Follow the chapters (first is at the bottom) and choose the 'read this' link next.

Summary: It is said that if you recite the magic words, mermaids will appear for you in the school pool. If you kill one and eat its flesh, the boy you like will like you back. There are, however, some caveats and these are not normal mermaids...

Warnings: None, really. No gore.

NEW TEXT:

For Halloween I will be reading some HP Lovecraft, and listening to horror radio shows later on (from the thirties/forties, the particular itunes podcast I have been getting them from is The Horror) with a banana sundae because that's how I roll.

Oh also I'm going to some concert thing or whatever.

Speaking of Chainsawsuit, it had an interesting story today.

*shudder* Junji Ito freaks me the fuck out no matter what's being written.

His comic was what made me realize that maybe I did like horror after all!

Fuan no Tane and Fuan no Tane: PLUS are all short horror stories, some of which aren't even ten pages long, some of which are based on urban legends. I had trouble sleeping after reading for a couple nights and I'm the sort of person who handles ghost stories well. The series are by Nakayama Masaaki.

And anything by Junji Ito is scary. I really liked Tomie, but I still haven't finished Uzumaki, which is also in the weird vein of The Enigma of the Amigara Fault.

Now I am reading School Mermaid. I'm on the first chapter, but if I have trouble sleeping, I am going to end you.

SPOILER [ I love how nonchalant the girls are about buying murder weapons.]

IDK if you've seen this yet, but hey, Halloween-appropriate comic.

WARNINGS: not for the faint of heart, can be really shocking and unpleasant, not for people sensitive to lights or sounds.

And then read the translation after looking at it.
