Flying Hippo: My main disappoint with HPB is the lack of emotion and well... general adolescent / dammit I'm meant to save the world grief and angst. I thought, after Umbridge's quill in OotP Harry was nicely set up to start cutting over Sirius's death. But JKR saw fit for him 'deal well' with the death and now I don't think it will ever happen. I'm a lover of angst and 'self harming / suicidal' Harry stories, but it seems this will never become canon.

I will update more on this situation soon, but I need some advice ASAP - she just popped out a cute little black kitten, and she's licking it and cleaning it and it's moving around just fine, but - shouldn't the kitten be making noise? Or not? I DON'T KNOW.
ETA: NEVERMIND - IT IS MEOWING NOW AND NURSING. WHY AM I SUCH A SPAZ.
Plz stay tuned - I will be ETA-ing all over the place, I'm sure. It will give me something to do.
ADDITIONAL QUESTION: I have already looked up this info, but out of curiosity, those of you with personal experience - how long between kittens was it for your cat?
ETA2: Well, we have two more kittens, but one didn't make it. I watched Penelo chew the sac, umbilical cord, etc., then lick it for a while, then she suddenly stopped and went back to her other kitten. I pulled it out and it wasn't moving, so I got a towel and rubbed it a lot, but nothing's happening. It doesn't really surprise me too much, since she was on her own for the first few weeks, and I talked to my granddad and he said that even kitties who have the best of care throughout their pregnancy give birth to stillborns.
ETA3: Well, it's 10:00 am and the labor started around 6, so I don't know if there'll be anymore. I felt her tummy and it certainly feels like there's another one in there, but who knows. It's only been an hour since the last one was born, and there was an hour between the onset of labor and the first kittie, then another hour after that for the second. But then the third was born about ten minutes after the second. - I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Thank you for all your support. : )
ETA4: We have another one! : D It's the first one who's the same color as Penelo, and it is the feistiest so far. It tried to nurse on its own placenta. D :
ETA5: Aaaaaand, we have kitten #5 (#4 live)! Another orange one who scared me half to death - I thought we had another stillborn, but it came around and is now nursing! *\o/* This one is really small - I hope it'll be okay.
And I was feeling 'Nelo's belly, and it really feels like there's at least one more in there. O_o They seem to be coming about an hour apart, so I'm thinking we'll know in another hour or hour-and-a-half. Goddamn, with her being young, a first time mom, a former stray, and on the small side, this sure is a lot of kittens. She's as robust as the server!
ETA6: Or it could be twenty minutes later, whichever. In other words, we've got kitten #6! This one's black too.
I'm open to naming suggestions (well, nick-naming, since they will get their real names once they're in a happy home of their own!) So far I've got Ickle Firstie, Spotface, and Ghengis Kitty. (Although, actually, aside from Spotface, I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to tell them apart!)
ETA 7: Well, I could have sworn I saw her start on a seventh, but it appears there are just going to be the five live ones. I felt her belly and it doesn't feel like it's got anything left in it.
She decided to give birth under the couch (despite the fact that I had a severe talk with her about how she could have them ANYWHERE BUT THERE), and she seems determined to stay there. I have made our large walk-in closet a nursery, complete with a comfortable box, but when I tried to move the kittens, Penelo grabbed them and moved them right back to under the couch. *sighs* She's fine there for now, but I'm going to need to move her in there at some point. Any advice?
Also, my grandparents can't come over until Monday due to the fact that my great aunt is having a session of chemotherapy and they need to stay with her, so no kitty pics until then. | Okay, as you guys know, I adopted a stray about a month and a half ago. And, um, we think she might be preggers. : O So I'm looking up info and everything and we're going to try to get her to the vet ASAP (which we haven't done yet because I've had some medical problems that have been eating up our extra money), but do any of you have any personal experience with pregnant cats? Like, how to tell if one is? She's getting really fat, but that could just be me feeding her too much, and her nipples seem to be getting bigger. I'm thinking that's all I could basically see at this point, and I'm doing google searches and everything, but I'd like to talk to someone who has personal experience too, so, yeah.
ETA: I just called the vet and she said that it certainly sounded like it. DDDDDDD : I still would like stories though, to know what to expect. Or you could just hold me and murmur gentle reassurances.

What I love is I used to go over to Fandom Wank--and they always claimed "if you don't like what we do, post some OBHWF wank!" My answer always was, why? I don't go looking to find stuff to mock with them--I see enough in our DF, but it is pointless to try to show anything. Some H/HR shippers DID try, but they made excuses, so we gave it up as a bad job.
But more importantly, why bother? I don't have any real desire to surf OBHWF sites just to find inanity. I don't get much joy out of tearing other's down; and I've never figured out why they do. It's no wonder they all are Ginny lovers there--Ginny's self-centered personality fits them to a T.
I mean, their fascination with sex is rather disturbing, too. "Oh, NO! H/Hr shippers seem to think that Hermione worships Harry's genitalia! She won't be complete until Harry's impregnating her!" I really do think they miss the concept, though if you substituted in the name "Ginny" for "Hermione" in that sentance, and refer it back to H/G, I think that's pretty much the argument for H/G.
What's really amusing is they STILL don't admit they are nothing more than an OBHWF circle-jerk society. I defy you to find anyone on there who doesn't wholly subscribe to the "OBHWF is canon, and by gosh, that's the RIGHT THING!!!" view. Even the alleged non-potter fans are OBHWF (because, you know, bickering and lust = good things"
Oh, and Hi, Cornfieldians! I know you'll read and mock, but hey, God Himself couldn't get you to be decent, so we live with it.
We miss you too! ♥ But not enough to put it on the cornfield and further feed your martyr complex.

| Yeah. So. Apparently people do not understand what "wank" means. I mean, usually the commenters at otf miss the point that the posts are, in theory, supposed to be funny, but we now have apparently reached the point where the original posters are missing the point too. D :
I'm thinking of making a fandom_discuss post asking people what their definition of "wank" is so we can all talk and maybe edumacate some people. Would this be a good idea, or an exercise in futility?

| I had this weird dream last night. I dreamed that F_W was a MMORPG. It was great. We all got to wear chainmail. Only it was really more like Mina de Malfois' Sanguinity, because there wasn't much fighting or anything going on. It was only after I woke up that I thought about how it could work:
1.) You could level up by attacking mice
2.) The heal spell could be members of your party saying things like "Word!" "You win the internets!" and "Have my internet babies!" to you.

| So since I've been so pissy lately, I turned to Throwing the Elephant: Zen and the Art of Managing Up, as I often do (which is a book written mostly for the lulz, which is why I love it). I thought I would share some nuggets of wisdom with you all.
- And keep in mind, my friends, that everything in the universe dies. The good news is that many will do so before you do. Most of what makes you unhappy and disturbs you will therefore be dead before you are, since much of it is older and more decrepit than you. Not that you want it that way, because you want nothing. But still. They will be gone, and you'll be left to enjoy a nice Cobb salad with extra bacon.
