Five reasons why Severus likes the fact that Remus is a werewolf (Snape/Lupin, R, Warning: If you squint at the last one, you might see bestiality)

[1]

There weren't many things that could quell his temper.

There was drink, but that was not the most reliable of all sedatives. Depending on the extent of his anger, drink could have the exact opposite of the desired effect.

Chess didn't always help either. Even playing against himself, he often found himself throwing the pieces across the room.

Potions though, especially ones as mind-consuming to make as Wolfsbane was, always did the trick. He would thank Remus for the excuse to make it, if it wasn't for the fact that Remus, grinning in that way he always did, was often the cause of his anger in the first place.

[2]

When he was a child, he slept with a stuffed animal. It was bigger than his torso and it helped him feel safe just clutching it to himself, even after the traditional evening row between his parents.

When he invited Moony into the bedroom for the first time and Moony curled up next to him, causing the bed to dip dangerously to one side, he felt safe enough to sleep soundly for the first time since he was a small boy.

[3]

Werewolf manure, as disgusting as it is, makes an excellent fertilizer for Severus' herb garden.

[4]

Sometimes, usually late at night when his mind is more prone to such fantasies, he imagines himself a dark creature. He is, after all, in a sense, with the exception of being legally classified as human. It was fitting that the wolf loved him as much as Remus did. It was a connection not quite explainable in words, but rather a pull neither of them could resist.

[5]

When Remus promises to fuck him like an animal, Severus can always take him at his word.

Five reasons why Snape's loyalties lie with Dumbledore and the Order (some Snape/Lupin and hinted at Snape/Regulus, PG, mild angst)

[1]

In spite of being made to endure children, lemon drops foisted upon him randomly, and those damn irritating sparkling blue eyes so serenely fixed on him even when he loses control of himself... Dumbledore trusts him, and he has had far too little trust shown to him his life.

[2]

When he showed up to apply for the Defense post the first time, it had been on the Dark Lord's orders. The second time, it was after having been forced by the same madman to murder his own lover for being a traitor. Severus had little doubt that he would be asked, perhaps forced, to kill again after joining the Order, but he would never again lose someone he loved by his own hand if he could help it.

[3]

He, quite by accident, found love within the Order's ranks. Not only that, but it was conveniently with someone no one would have suspected Severus to ever desire, as otherwise he could not have allowed himself to even have a relationship with anyone.

[4]

He had been wrong, he knew now, as he watched Dumbledore fall before him, to assume that the Order could have kept him from having to kill loved ones. But at least living with the old bastard had allowed him to mature enough since he'd left the Dark Lord to realize that sometimes it was the best choice, however distasteful it might have been.

[5]

If Remus ever found out that the love of his life had been based on lies, he would kill him. Severus had no desire to become werewolf kibble.

Five Times Remus Stood Up for Severus (Remus, Snape [um, maybe pre-Lupin/Snape if you want it to be :), PG-13, mild angst)

[1]

The first time it had been accidental, a slip of the tongue as Sirius and James made fun of the Slytherin over breakfast in the Great Hall. It seemed as if the table went silent for a moment, and Remus could feel his face heating.

When Sirius finally half-jokingly asked him if he was feeling alright (because surely he would not have defended Snivellus if he had been), Remus lied and said no, then ran off to the common room alone. It was the last time he tried to defend Severus until the unthinkable happened.

[2]

"What the bloody hell were you thinking?!"

The other marauders were shocked silent, and for good reason - Remus was fairly certain none of them had ever heard him yell.

"Moony..." Sirius started, when no one else dared. "Calm down, mate, I didn't think he'd actually do it."

"Yes, you did! And besides, that's no excuse, anyway! He's a human being, not just a toy for your amusement! He hardly deserved to be..." Remus had been barely listening to himself, but when he got to that sentence, his stomach turned over.

He didn't speak to Sirius again for a week.

[3]

Nyphadora had thrown a very old looking vase at him from across the room, and he quietly repaired it with his wand as she began to pace, still shouting at him. He had probably gone too far in explaining to her why he was leaving her for Severus, what Severus could offer him that she couldn't, but she had pushed for it, pushed him too far. She always pushed him too far. It was how they ended up together in the first place, after all.

At least, unlike Nymphadora, Severus knew how to push him to the edge without pushing him over it (unless he wanted to). The thought made him smile broadly to himself, and another vase whizzed past his head in response.

[4]

Through the haze of smoke and flashes of curses being fired in every direction, he could still distinguish one of the Death Eaters, mask or not. There was something about the way he moved, the jerkiness, that slender frame.

Remus was going to kill him. He just had to get to him before anyone else did.

By the time he made it to the center of the battle, dodging curses and sending a few of his own along the way, he was just in time to see Bellatrix (who's mask was conspicuously missing) aim a curse at Harry... which Severus dove in the way of, taking the hit and crumpling to the ground, leaving Harry open to destroy the final Horecrux.

Remus gasped, shock flooding him, but he hesitated no longer than a second before he turned and struck Bellatrix down.

[5]

Severus looked as well as could be expected, Remus thought as he approached the stand near the front of the crowded room. The curse he took may have weakened him, but that scowl was still there, which meant he hadn't been mentally affected.

"State your name."

"Remus John Lupin."

"And you are here to defend Severus Snape?"

There was a murmur across the Wizangamut, but Remus ignored it. He only looked across the room to meet Severus' eyes.

"Yes."

Severus' scowl slipped only for a moment, replaced temporarily with confusion before he looked away, training his expression back to neutral.

"I am."
