I live! [Nov. 29th, 2005|12:45 pm]
Sorta.

It's always fun to gripe about Jack Chick. I go read some of his tracts and remind myself how I'm not insane.

I was muddling through my LJ flist and someone linked his Harry Potter tract. And then someone else linked his D&D tract. (Am I going to hell for snarkily thinking "Why didn't my DM teach me wicked cool spells?")

I couldn't even finish the D&D one, but I did find it amusing that now there's Satan-infested versions of the Bible. lol.

I wanted to post this on some manner of F_W comm, but I have no idea where to put something for people to just poke fun at. And I'd be surprised if these haven't already been poked to death already.

Mr. Chick? Only response I have: http://ungodly.ytmnd.com/

:(

I go see Hitchhiker's yesterday. Loved the movie! Laughed so hard. Cried at the end: "For Douglas." You will be sorely missed, Mr. Adams.

I'm disappointed, though. I figured there'd at least be a LITTLE wank about the movie, other than the closet nerds and their towels. Is it possible that no one has anything negative to say about something? OMG!

And, please tell me I'm not the only one that saw the scene of Ford and Arthur in the airlock, just before Ford asks Arthur if he wants a hug, in that awkward silence stare, and thought "Ford/Arthur? ...OH GOD."

Everyone! You should so go check out the newest, coolest community on LJ! It's FANDOM_WANKZ! Cause, obviously, adding a "z" makes it better than the real thing.

Course, they say they made the comm because they didn't want to go through the horrible, mind-numbing hassle of making a JF account. And since...anonymous posting isn't allowed on f_w. Or...something.

I'm taking bets on how long it takes before it gets TOSed. Especially since I found out about the comm via spam on another comm.

Note: I know at least crucifymylove was wanked from the fm_alchemist comm. selphish probably was too. Isn't that just the cutest thing ever?

Hence why I use my Crystalwank icon, because it has MADE ME JADED! Or untrustworthy. Or something.

So, I'm strolling around in DA, looking mostly at EK's and Daniel Fu's accounts, when I notice that Fu's got a "ninja" artwork in his favorites. Well, being the ninja fangirl that I am, I went to take a clickie.

I end up here, in kurz27's DA, and I'm quite impressed. I read through the comments and suddenly, I realize how everyone who's been duped by Crystal felt.

Apparently, the reason the artwork - and all the rest of his Metal Gear art - looks so good, is because it's official art that he's passing off as his own. He can't even make his own wallpapers out of official artwork, he's gotta steal it from some French site.

The person I learned this from in the comments was tichondrius, as he/she's posted in nearly every MGS entry the guy's made with some manner of comment stating he didn't do it. In this one, evidence is given. I felt like such an idiot.

So, I follow the link to tichondrius's account, the bastion of justice and the protector of the Kojima way, and find that he/she does Square/Enix "fan" artwork with questionably vague descriptions. (For the record, I don't think he/she's trying to pass it off as original fanart, but I don't put anything past anyone anymore.)

And then I wondered why any artists worth their salt even bother with DA when they're made to compete with this flavor of stupidity.

*crosses fingers and wishes REALLY HARD* [Aug. 2nd, 2004|06:39 pm]
Okay. Okay, okay. Last time for a while I'll talk about this.

But, there's gonna be a Bleach anime. BLEACH. ANIME. In case you haven't been able to tell, fair readers, I'm a HUGE Bleach fan. I started because the main character has the same birthday as me, then just really got into the story. It's so much fun.

ADV MUST GET THE RIGHTS FOR BLEACH OMGWTF.

Which I'm kind of thinking they won't. See, it's being done by Pierrot, and since Geneon's pre-licensed Saiyuki Reload/Gunlock (where they basically stuck it to ADV with Pierrot's help), I'm more inclined to believe they'll stay with Geneon for a while. Fucksticks.

Sidenote: Naruto's done by Pierrot? WTF, mate? Why the hell did Reload suck so hard then?

Okay, peoples. I'ma gonna do a little self-plug here.

I'm helping run a new Fruits Basket RPG called "Family Secrets". It's a forum-based RPG that incorporates an original idea for another family cursed by the signs of the Western Zodiac. We've even developed our own "cat legend" sort of thing.

So, here's the link: Family Secrets. There's some Kaza members still left and a TON of canon FB characters. It promises to be quite interesting, so I hope y'all will participate!

(yet another thing x-posted to my LJ XD)

I was looking through f_w earlier today, and thought about my first fandom, and boy was I wanky. It made me wonder...did everyone have a wanky experience in their first fandom?

My first (online) fandoms were an Iolausian group (Hercules: The Legendary Journeys) and the Highlander tv series shortly after.

My first foray into Hercules fandom consisted of trolling a Xena forum and telling the people on my Iolausian ML to "please not use cuss words as my parents don't like them". This was just when Hotmail (HoTMaiL XD) was getting started, and they told me to get an email there instead of having the ML go to my parents' email address. I'm still flabbergasted that they didn't tell me to take my underage wanky ass elsewhere. O_o

I don't remember anything particularly eventful in my stay in the Highlander fandom. Certainly not what people are saying now...and I was a regular on the official Rysher (sp?) Highlander forum. If anyplace was gonna get wanky, it woulda been there. O_o The worst I remembered was when what happened to Richie happened at the season-before-last (does vagueness even matter now?), but there was just a bunch of "OOOOH NOOOES" and not a lot else.

Feeling insecure, sub-purists? Need to have some place to flock to to avoid the OMG EVOL DUBBIES?! Yes, we piss in your Cheerios, kick your cat, insult your mother, and RUIN YOUR FUCKING UTOPIAN ANIME WORLD OMGWTF.

And then we do it again. And again. And again. AND LAUGH. LAUGH, BITCHES, LAUGH.

Sidenote for JF: This can probably be reported somewhere, but quite honestly, I'm too tired of it to do so. So, if it does explode in wank, whoever gets to it first is more than welcome to report to the proper comm. :D

Okay, enough with the angst! Back to the snark!

Ah, you purists. You make my life worth living.

Won't someone think of the nine-year-olds solving murder cases?

*fwap fwap fwap*

People are complaining? Oh well. I guess that's why Case Closed is one of AS's highest-rated shows, so they can have something new to complain about every day!

Gosh, those purists sure are tricksy.

I'm keeping an eye on this one. It's bound to explode in some fashion of wank.

Does wank really pay? [Jun. 29th, 2004|11:47 am]
[mood |Goofy]

(This is an old topic, and I was going to post it somewhere but never did. Yay, something to read. :D)

Not posting this in [info]fandom_wank because I'm not sure it qualifies to be there, as it's not a wank-in-progress. More like "why the hell did the wankers win?"

Ah, Suikoden. That beautiful, wonderful, glorious Playstation RPG series. How I love thee, and how I loathe your fandom.

A few months back, Tokyopop announced that they had acquired the license for the Suikoden 3 manga. (Why they didn't try to get Suikoden 1 or 2 is beyond me.) Here's the blurb they sent for the press release:

Shimizu Aki -- a huge manga talent in Japan -- has created this wonderful story that was inspired by the hit Konami video game. For years, a devastating war has raged between the countries of The Grasslands and Zecksen. Virtually every family in both countries has suffered some sort of devastating loss, and their final ray of hope is vanishing as a long-awaited peace treaty crumbles before their very eyes. With nothing left to lose, a quest is undertaken to find the legendary Flame Bearer who is credited with ending a war many years ago. Source

The spooge that resulted from this was awe-inspiring. People screaming about Tokyopop daring to "misspell" the names of the characters sounded from Suikoden fansites everywhere (all, y'know, two of them.) Never mind the fact that Konami itself can't seem to deliver consistent translations, but I digress.

Probably one of the biggest Suikoden fansites out there is Suikosource. Or, as I like to call it: "I Can Make Up Facts with the Best of Em". They cried out the loudest at this press release.

I lost track of the whole thing after a while (actually, I stopped caring), and while in Waldenbooks today, I saw that the first volume of the manga was out. Being the die-hard Suikoden fangirl I am, I snatched it up gleefully, paid my money, and ran out of the store. The first chance I got, I was flipping through the pages. What I found, though, nearly made me drop the book in horror.

A three-page explanation of "the world of Suikoden" sat there, fat and happy, by the Editor-in-Chief of Suikosource. I was utterly shocked. Does wank really pay off? Does wanking make editors thank you for your "invaluable assistance in fact-checking" a book? Does it earn you the biggest site-plug in the history of man?

Okay, maybe I exaggerated on the last one. But still, this site was the hardest wanking of them all, and they get thanked for it!

Granted, all it'd take for Tokyopop to check their own book is a PS2 and $30 for a used copy of Suikoden 3. Huh, so, maybe in the end, Tokyopop did come out on top, because they saved $30 and got a fangirl to do the work for them. Sweet. *Tokyopop gains Respect +1!*

It's also worth noting that, while I'm sure HowlingGuild's intent of writing that bit was to inspire people to play the games, she completely spoiled the other two games of the series. Yeah. Great work, there.

Interesting side-note: Suikosource was started by a guy that loved to talk about how cool he was named Blue Moon. He ran it for a good long time, then for reasons I have no idea about, left. I'm assuming it was during a good hissyfit, cause I can't imagine him giving up his hallowed position in Suikosource willingly since he'd taken all that time to make up all that great info. He started up another Suikoden information site called SARS, aka Suikoden-somethingaboutrumors.

Considering what an ego-freak he is, I bet he's just chewing his face off for leaving Suikosource after it got that huge plug from Tokyopop. Bwahaha, payback's a bitch. XD

[music |Cowboy Bebop - BLUE]

Here's something I have to talk about, just to get it off mine chest. I have two LJ accounts and I can't talk about this there. Ain't that sad? I think so.

Anyway, over on yon LJ (and probably here and DeadJournal and wherever else), there's communities for something called "otakukin". For some reason, every time I read something about this, it angers me. I mean, irrational anger. Like, literally, if someone walked up to me and went "I'm an otakukin!" I'd probably punch them in the mouth without hesitation. And I'm not a violent person, no matter how big I talk.

It bothers me that I get this big of a reaction, because I can't help but think "methinks she protests too much". I honestly don't know why it irritates me to that degree.

I mean, fuck, it's like these people took the Neverending Story and made it a fucking lifestyle choice.

I'd like to think I'm someone that can respect other people's beliefs, and normally I am, but this just rubs me the wrong way.

Maybe it's because of the very concept. People are reincarnations of paint on cel? Or little 1's and 0's? Most say they realized their other lives in "dreams". Well, I've had dreams where I was playing the role of Edward Elric, but that doesn't make me the Fullmetal-fucking-Alchemist.

If someone came up to me and said "I knew I was Snake before Metal Gear came out", maybe then I'd start to believe. But they all say "I watched this anime / played this game / read this book, and lo, it was as if a light shone down from the heavens!" Sounds too convenient to me.

And where are the people that're reincarnations of, say, Volcan from Orphen? Or Krin from Suikoden? The little, smarmy, useless characters. No no no, only the HEROES and LEGENDS come to know their past lives. Only the gods and saviors of humanity!

I think there's probably two things that bother me the most: one being that these people readily, openly, loudly, sometimes obnoxiously proclaim that they are these past lives, and do everything with that past life as the center of their current lives, and squander away the life they have now. They do all this, living in their "other" lives, while I struggle and toil in my own. I pulled myself back from the edge of the abyss, with the help of friends and family. I didn't depend on some amorphous being that I can only see (don't they call those 'imaginary friends'?). I struggle every day to accept the person I am, to better myself, and they so readily toss that aside and think nothing of it.

Two is the very idea that the things I work to create are not really created by me, that I somehow make some kind of astral connection with another plane and simply say what I see. That bothers the fuck out of me. That reduces me from a creator to some two-bit psychic. My characters and my world are my own, they live in me, and fuck you for thinking you can encroach on them. I don't care if you think you're the human life version of Tristis, fuck you, you're not.

Okay. I feel better. Maybe now I'll just laugh instead of punch.
