January 29th, 2009
09:11 am - *pokes head out* *waves* Been a while, huh? How's everyone doing? Well, I hope. I really haven't had much a chance to peruse my flist of late. Just the occasional jump in and jump out kind of a deal, so if there is anything important that I've missed (or just something fun), please feel free to let me know. I feel very out of the loop right now.
Things happening in my neck of the woods:
Magus' step-father (sorta) was hospitalized last week for severe abdominal pain and nausea. Seriously scary stuff that ended up with him being intubated for a day following three consecutive heart attacks. We actually spent the early hours of last Friday morning at the hospital waiting as a result. He is doing MUCH better now (he was actually discharged yesterday), although no diagnosis has been given.
Really kicking 2009 off with a bang, aren't we?
The class that I was planning to take this semester is full, and so-far, I've had zero luck with getting the Dean to let me into the class, on account of limited lab desk space. What does this mean? Well, if I can't convince her before Monday's class to let me in, then I'm SOL for the semester, and will instead be taking the super-condensed version of the class over the summer. That class will take place over the course of 5 weeks, four nights a week, from 6pm until 10:10pm. Needless to say, it will be hell, and will f-up my training schedule like MAD. Nothing to be done however, as I need to take the class. *sigh*
Speaking of training, this month I have started working with Magus (or the other way around really) on a strength training program. I'm pushing the endurance (running/cycling/swimming) to the back burner (still doing it, just at a lesser volume), in favor of the strength training as my muscles need some serious toning that I'm just not going to be able to get any other way at this juncture. My plan is to spend these first 6 months of 2009 really focusing on the strength aspect of training. This will allow me to start upping my volume for the endurance stuff in the early weeks of June (just before that pesky class starts at the end of that month). I hope that I can keep training in the mornings before I go to work, but exhaustion may win out. Theoretically, I will still do my season-opener tri the first weekend of June, as its a short-one, and shouldn't be too effected by my lower training volumes I should think. All other races are up in the air at this point though. Do I want to do more? Yes. I just have nothing settled in concrete right now.
In other friendly and familial news, Magus and I have been playing a LOT of Rock Band - as both my brother and one of our close friends got it this past holiday. Which basically means playing Friday night (after BSG) and then either Saturday or Sunday afternoon (with the exception of this past weekend, in which we played Friday night, Saturday afternoon, AND Sunday afternoon.) Shit is ADDICTIVE man. To the point that I keep wiffle-waffling on whether or not buying and X-Box 360 for pretty much the sole purpose of playing Rock Band at my own house is ridiculous or not... My decision is still up in the air, and will probably stay there until after we know how our taxes are going to work out this year ;-P
Magus and I will be in DC this weekend (and invading emmmitt's and page5grrl's abode.) This is awesome, as we haven't been down to DC in MONTHS (mostly because we ended up canceling our last two planned trips at the last minute *sigh* we suck). This is cause for much celebration. *throws confetti*
Thinky thoughts on the first two episodes of the second half of the last season of BSG, thoughts on last week's SPN, and the Doctor Who Christmas Special (and possibly Dexter S3) will be coming in a post sometime later today. Probably. Stay tuned ;-P
