I'm confused.

Is an OST something OTHER than a movie soundtrack? Because in the first comment, alyanumbers thinks the Juno soundtrack doesn't count. And I don't get why a soundtrack wouldn't count... as a soundtrack. Are they just talking about film scores?

She clarifies in a comment that she assumed the music had to be composed specifically for the film to count as "original." (As opposed to standard movie scores which incorporate previously-released popular music.)

I thought "original" just differentiated it from "cover."

Maybe it's the O? Maybe only music originally composed for the movie counts, rather than existing songs incorporated into it?

Hey, I had to look up OST because I had no. clue. what it meant.

That's what I've usually intrepreted it to mean, although some people will label all soundtracks as OSTs.

That's why I said in my comment that I was only counting soundtracks with music originally composed for the movie/show. (And also because in a thread about how it's not embarrassing/shameful to listen to OSTs, listing soundtracks that are basically compilations of popular songs/artists seems a bit like cheating, since they don't have the same... nerd stigma? Or something.)

Wait. What? OST doesn't mean like, the original cast recording of a musical?

No. ST stands for 'soundtrack.'

Original Cast Recordings are OCRs, and I have seen people in Broadway communities get SO snippy over calling them a "soundtrack," it's unbelievable. A couple of years ago, Legally Blonde: The Musical was aired on MTV and the girls who were "hosting" the thing called the cast album the "soundtrack." The bitchery on the broadwayworld.com forums over that went on for pages.

Technically, Juno is an OST. What they're actually talking about is Original Score. I have very little time for soundtracks, as I see them mostly as compilations. Scores however is music that is specifically composed for the movie.

This is why I did NOT buy Twilight OST, but Twilight Original Score. To me, there's a massive, massive difference.
