This is an intense, strongly written story about characters who’ve been very seriously affected by the war.

Snape’s lot in life is to keep watch over some of these damaged survivors. Harry, in particular, needs a great deal of help. Snape himself is suffering - his ruined muscles ensure that he will never again brew a potion to any exacting standard. He feels frustrated and angry at being put in the position of guardian to these seemingly irredeemable cases, but in his own way, he slowly manages to help Harry start to heal.

Even though things seem hopeless, there is a glimmer of light at the end of the story, and I can only hope that when the cherries ripen, life will be a little easier for Snape and Harry.
