A short little ficlet, "A Pattering of Praise" is a more serious offering than we’re used to finding from Abstract Concept. However, it still showcases both her wonderful use of language, and the skill she has in finishing off a story in a quietly satisfying manner.

Here we have Snape and Harry in a hurt/comfort situation where Snape stays true to character, while at the same time managing to give Harry what he needs. The repeated use of certain phrases and sentences throughout this short story works very well.

"A Pattering of Praise" is beautifully written, entrancing and seductive, almost haunting in a way, and is a very good depiction of "post-war reaction" from both Snape and Harry.
