The Cinnabar Sling, a story from Not Groom Lake by Dingochow

Title: The Cinnabar Sling, a story from Not Groom Lake
Author: Dingochow
Rating: NC-17 (very)
Author's Insane Journal: Dingochow
Author's Warnings: Let's see: AU. Masturbation. Dirty talk. Wall!sex, library!sex, pickup truck!sex, outdoor!sex. Voyeurism. Very mild bondage. Just rather pervy all around. (Also, some attempts at humor.)
Author's Prompt/Summary: Ravenna_c_tan wanted a story with a mature, confident Harry, angst along the road to a happy ending, intensity in the smut, and Snape's POV. She also thinks AUs are fun!(so do I …)

Reviewer: Gaycrow

I'm not sure that all AUs are fun, but the way Dingochow introduces the Spider, and "The American Facility that is not at Groom Lake", and then Harry Hartsfield, pulled me in. And the story seems to become less and less AU as we go.

Right from the start, I like the way we're introduced to the Spider, and the things he likes and dislikes. That sets the tone for the rest of the story, and we're off!

I like the strange magic artifacts that Dingochow's thought up, and the way they're dealt with; I like the hot sex that Harry and Spider indulge in (it IS just rather pervy all around); and the way Spider is somehow manoeuvered into doing things that are ... beyond inappropriate ... unacceptable ... unconscionable and unbelievable but obviously, oh so gooood. :D

There is more than an attempt at humour - there are quite a few moments that made me grin.

An intriguing ending too, with the two birds swooping in the sky, giving Harry the perfect chance to put his point across, and then the interruption of the rogue magic. Wonderful!

This is a remarkable story, one that I really enjoyed. I hope to see more stories from Dingochow in the future (and what an interesting name).

Made-Up Lullaby #43 by Fitofpique

Title: Made-Up Lullaby #43
Author: Fitofpique
Genre: Humour/Crack
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: AU, EWE, not Mpreg
Story Link: here
Author’s summary: People who say they sleep like a baby don't usually have one.
Word count: 20,500

Reviewer: Gaycrow

After surviving the war, and after Harry testifies at his trial, Severus is the favourite of the Wizarding World. He is living in self-imposed exile in Muggle London in a powerfully warded flat, constantly plagued with unwelcome attention from his new admirers, the occasional death threat from former acquaintances, and frequently issued invitations to tea from Hogwarts' new Headmistress - his life seems like a living hell.

One night after a particularly argumentative public dinner with Harry, Snape ends up having an all out fight with him. They go at it hammer and tongs in a back alley. While they’re recovering, they hear a strange noise. It’s a baby! Abandoned in a rubbish skip. Harry decides to take her home, and Snape goes along for the ride.

The baby gradually takes over both of their lives, worming her way into Snape's heart ... leaving a little room for Harry to move in too.

Fitofpique shows how two bachelor wizards cope with the difficulties that arise when a six month old baby moves in. We learn the baby’s parentage, and we see Snape realise that maybe there’s something missing in his life. All served up with witty dialogue (this exchange, when Snape complains Harry can't see, as he isn't wearing his glasses, had me giggling out loud "I have contacts, for sport and things," Harry explains. Snape rolls his eyes and shakes his head. "Potter, I care very little for your Quidditch acquaintances. Please try to focus, if it isn't too great a strain!"); humorous portrayals including Snape's reaction when he first sees the baby, and the way he handles nappy changing; and some lovely little Wizarding lullabies from Harry. A delightful story all the way from start to finish.

Polyjuice Pertinacity or The Tale of the Auror and the Whore by Anders Svartalfurinn

Title: Polyjuice Pertinacity or The Tale of the Auror and the Whore
Author: Anders Svartalfurinn
Genre: Postwar
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: Canon compliant except for the epilogue. (Snape lives!) Infidelity, cross-dressing, smoking, abuse of potions and alcohol. References to pop culture (movies)

Author’s summary: Harry and Snape's jobs collide.
Word count: 22,000

Don't be put off by the warnings. I'm not keen on cross-dressing!whore!Severus or infidelity so it's a measure of Anders’ clever plot and good writing that I couldn't stop reading. Don’t be deterred by Severus in a corset and green silk stockings ... and the infidelity isn’t hard to cope with. (Snape and Harry can overcome anything!)

This is a very different Snarry to the ones I'm used to reading , and I found it quite intriguing. It’s a long, involved story, with some wonderful magical touches. I had to think quite hard to keep track of everything, but it was so interesting that it wasn't a chore.

I loved the little phoenixes and dragons on the bottles; and the magical talking elevator, and the frequent use of the fancy polyjuice potion.

I also loved the ending ... it’s was realistic and satisfying.

Lots to think about in this story! Definitely give it a go.

Benefits by Scheming Reader

Title: Benefits
Author: Scheming Reader
Genre: Postwar, Hurt/Comfort
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: No author warning included
Story Link: here
Author’s summary: Harry dreams that Snape is alive and needs his help. But can Snape survive Harry's 'saving people thing'?
Word count: 9,629

Reviewer: Gaycrow

This story has some of my bullet-proof kinks:

Harry not realising he likes men, Harry's first time; Harry loving kissing;

"A blowjob, Harry."

"Yeah, right," Harry said. "Like people really do that."

... Harry being clueless; :D and

Snape (having) tremendous self-control, except sometimes when he didn't

Scheming Reader has a lovely, quirky way of writing, which really appeals to me. Her dialogue is especially lovely. In “Benefits” we see a Harry who’s naive when it comes to the birds and bees, but who still posesses his basic intelligence and stubborness. Snape is stubborn, too, and not quite as resistant to Harry’s charms as he’d like. He’s in complete self-denial right up to the end.

There’s a lovely Luna included here, too, adding an interesting twist to the usual Ron/Hermione dynamic. And Ron can cook! Some yummy food descriptions made my mouth water. Luna's scenes add an extra dimension, along with plenty of humorous touches - they all contribute to making “Benefits” a charming and delightful story.

Imaginis by Leela

Title: Imaginis
Author: Leela
Genre: Alternate Universe (according to the Snarry Games definitions)
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: No author warnings
Story Link: here
Author’s summary: When children are threatened, Severus Snape does the right thing for once and finds himself saddled with suspended Auror, Harry Potter. Some people can't help but be themselves, while others appear to be someone else. And, in the middle of it all, a meddling portrait finds unexpected freedom and hope for the future.
Word count: 51,300

Reviewer: Gaycrow

Snape owns a bookshop, and Harry is sent to work there in an undercover Auror operation. Draco and Charlie Weasley are also involved in the operation, and inevitably Harry spills the beans to Ron and Hermione. He can never keep secrets from Hermione.

A very plotty story follows, full of deceptions, blackmailing and special potions.

I really like Leela’s Snape and Harry here, with the attraction between them slowly building, rather than the way they just seem to "love" each other all of a sudden in some stories.

Portrait!Regulus is a wonderful addition, nearly stealing the limelight all the way through.

This is a long, well written Snarry, with believeable characters that kept me interested and involved and impressed the whole way through. An excellent piece of story telling.
