Frank Miller in the NY Times
Hooboy. The NY Times has an article about Frank "WHORES" Miller and the film adaptation of The Spirit:

Artist-Director Seeks the Spirit of "The Spirit"
Mr. Uslan approached Mr. Miller with “The Spirit” before Eisner’s memorial service in Lower Manhattan. He had seen “Sin City” and was impressed by its digital fidelity to Mr. Miller’s comics.

“‘Frank, Will was your mentor; you’ve got to write and direct this,’” he recalled saying. “And Frank looked at me like I was out of my mind. He said: ‘Touch the work of the master? How could I do that?’ About 10 minutes later he tapped me on my shoulder and said, ‘I can’t let anyone else touch it.’”
    Um.

    video game n00b requests aid.
So I recently found out that I'm going to be very sick for a very long time before it starts to get better, which involves long stretches of time in which I can't really get out or be active. Since the Internet can, actually, get dull after awhile, I did what any reasonable person would do - I bought a video game console =D More specifically, a DS.

Yes, this is another game rec thread. But it's got one stipulation: I'm really bad at video games. I haven't played since the original Nintendo, and too many controls and buttons make me a sad panda. In spite of that, I really like games with complex stories and lots of characters and overarching plots, so I guess I was wondering if there are games like that for the beginner/low skill level set. I'd hate to drop all this money and immediately get frustrated because I'm attempting to play above my skill level.

So far, I have a Nintendog, because... well, I love puppies ;D What else should I look in to?

    Game Center CX/Arino's Challenge RPS?
I realize this may sound a little odd, but I've been watching Game Center CX (thanks to the fine folks at TV-Nihon) and ever since the hot springs specials, I've been thinking about Arino/AD Toujima.

I know it's a longshot, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Rule 34 and all that, right?

Small wank on the TF aisle...
I refer to this as small because it's pretty much over now, but still worth a look.

Over at [info]fanficrants, Transformers stickyfic is protested. Or rather, stickyfic with no warning. [info]smart_blonde223 sends a polite message to the culprit, asking for a warning to be placed on the fic.

The result? Wank. She gets flamed, barred from the site, said site actually gets taken down in a spectacular flounce, and the 'writer' turns up to threaten the OP. It's right here.

Well done, TF writer. Well done. You showed those nasty people! Taking down your site means you are such a martyr and everybody will be so impressed.

    Little wank. Little like Starscream.
[info]smart_blonde223 posts a reasonable rant to [info]fanficrants regarding a rather awful example of surprise Transformer buttsex. Her response to the surprise was courteous, the author's response was less so. Lols are had by all.

Then the author shows up, and boy is she upset.

You, smartblonde223, are the biggest bitch in the world. I hope you burn in Hell and the rest of your family burn, too. You are a disgrace. Did you actually think you could come on here and RANT about MY story without me finding out? You're a fucking bitch, I hate you, and I hope you get run over by a truck. Youre a cocksucking motherfucking cunt, I hope you know. And your little friend sieberwing better not try to link anything, either.
Like I said in my previous post, I've changed it so that youre now banned and that you cant link back. have fun in hell, asshat.

She's so mad, in fact, that she deletes not only the fic but the entire Yahoo comm. More lols are had, while [info]helena1234 tries desperately to make people take her seriously.

You "lol'd"? Laughing is the last thing youll be doing once i find out who you are bitch

you better take those photos down now or else i'll tell everyone your information

    -----

no the worst thing that can happen to her is the fact that i know where she lives and if she doesnt take it down im going to send all of my friends to kick her ass

she lives in argentina and i know exactly wehere, too.

and mind your own damn business, slut
(Not that the info will do her much good...)

Mere hours later, in a personality shift to rival Blitzwing's, she apologizes! So perhaps this is the last of that, or perhaps she shall return to us being mean. Or lead an invasion of Argentina to avenge her maligned fic.

It also seems to have landed at sf_drama, to much bogglement but no actual wank.

    Arbeit macht furry
Debating whether to put this in [info]unfunnybusiness, but while Nazis are certainly unfunny, debating the merits of Naziism is only the basis of this whole mess. If you don't enjoy Holocaust-related humor, it's probably worth it to skip the whole darn thing. Also stuff on Something Awful forums tends to be NSFW. So please, let's focus on the funny, because there's lots of it. Posted when the SA forums are public browsing, so at least right now it's out there for everyone to see.

Wank? In My Bad Sex Community? It's More Likely Than You Et Cetera Blah Blah Blah
There's a potential wankstorm brewing over at Livejournal's Weeping Cock community.

[info]pyro posts an extract from Tao Lin's erotic masterwork Sex After Not Seeing Each Other For a Couple Days. Community members WTF over the weirdness for a few posts until [info]spoggly shows up and accuses everyone who posted to WTF of LOL MISSING THE POINT OF THE STORY. In all caps.

Cue low-level wankery as [info]spoggly and a couple of other community members debate whether or not Sex After Not Seeing Each Other For a Couple Days is high-minded enough to be exempt from being laughed at on a bad sex comm. Pretty small so far, there's just that thread and a couple of other potential 'this is high art and you're all too dumb to get it' posts - both so far commentless - but may grow depending on how persistant [info]spoggly gets.

Guess what I found in my local Starbucks today?

An extract from Cassie Clare's latest published novel. For free. I don't know if it's an international, or even national promotion, but considering I live in Yorkshire it's fairly safe to say it is (though it mentions a UK charity, so I'm not entirely sure). If you have ever been tempted to find out what Cassie Clare's published work is like, I think it's worth picking up for her opening blurb alone. It's very... her.

    Day 4 of E3

Miyamoto explains why they didn't announce core games at E3. Fans rage some more.

    A. The first that I’d want to clarify is that the concept that Wii intentionally does not cater to core gamers is probably a misconception, and perhaps one that’s almost a PR tactic used by some of the other companies to paint us as a company that’s not targeting core gamers. But in fact, while we may not be focusing on the high-end graphics and technology that core gamers would typically be drawn to, the types of games we create, and continue to create, are certainly games that people who play games would certainly want to continue playing.

I think that there’s probably one other element to it, and that’s that our view of how we use E3 has changed. For a very long time, E3 was an event where — and certainly Nintendo included — catered specifically to the core gamer. Now we look at more … an opportunity for us to introduce new concepts and new types of play that we intend to bring to the broader audience, particularly because of the media that gathers at E3 now.

So while attending an E3 event like this, they might be given the impression that Nintendo is no longer focusing on the games that appeal to the core gamer, in fact we’re still working on many of those titles, but it’s just not the type of event where we’ll be showcasing that anymore.

Fans are loving the hilarity of the new Duke Nukem Trilogy trailer.

Following on the heels of Megaman 9, Gradius Rebirth is being made for WiiWare.

Via rm: SDCC hotel boycott - re:anti-gay marriage donation
Straight from rm, as I couldn't say it any better and me and my partner are also glad NOT to be staying there.
    Link to original post: http://rm.livejournal.com/1411838.html

Considering that most of my friends going to ComicCon fall into at least one of the following categories:

    - queer
    - for equal rights
    - slashers
    - Torchwood fans

I think you should know the following:

The Manchester Grand Hyatt is one of the most popular and expensive hotels for people going to SDCC because of its prime location. It's owned by Doug Manchester who just "donated $125,000 to help get Proposition 8, a measure that could amend the state constitution to ban same-sex marriage, on the ballot" in California.

    The article is here: http://www.advocate.com/news_detail_ektid57778.asp

    Other hotels are here: http://www.comic-con.org/cci/cci_hotel.shtml

    This infuriates me.

I'm not at SDCC (I was invited to be a guest) because my partner is coming home after being on a dig for 9 weeks. And I'm sad about not being at SDCC because of the love the oh so queer Torchwood is getting at the con. So seriously people, I know SDCC hotel space is at a premium and then some. But if you're booked in there, please consider doing the right thing and bring your business elsewhere (difficult at this late date -- considering piling into a room at another venue with friends or look at [info]redstapler's suggestions in comments) or make an offset donation.

(And wow, I hope none of the guests are booked in there, although maybe if they decide to make a statement about it, that would rock.)
