The trouble with saying goodbyes is that they never last long enough, and you never get to say everything you wanted to say. That said, greetings from the hostel KiwiPaka in Rotorua, North Island, New Zealand; a country in which I shall be spending five months. Right now things are off to an okay start, in spite of the fact that I seem to have forgotten to pack the battery charger for my laptop, and probably won't be near an Apple store for another three days. Damn. June 24th, 2009(no subject) @ 01:39 pm
As I've mentioned elsewhere, for those who aren't sure about Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, it actually makes sense for the character to look younger with each incarnation, considering how old the First Doctor was. And it's not like he's got much left in him; remember, a Time Lord can only naturally regenerate a maximum of thirteen times. June 23rd, 2009(no subject) @ 10:06 pm

Am also hearing rumors that Primeval might be cancelled, which would be very sad if true. *Ahem* @ 12:36 am
In response to some of the comments here, I'd like to point out that not all of the companions' roles in the new Doctor Who were to fall in love with the Doctor. First of all, there's Donna, who at no point actually fell in love with him (although she did kiss him at one point, but that was to shock him). Secondly, Martha, despite falling for him, had the good sense to get out of that relationship while she still could; her choice. The only one of the new companions who really, truly fell in love with the Doctor is Rose (although I suppose you could also count Astrid), and frankly... yeah, I'm least impressed with her story arc. Beginning to worry about The Descent 2 after seeing the trailer. The Crawlers look more like Orc knock-offs, rather than the eerie blend of Gollum and Nosferatu seen in the first movie. May 31st, 2009"Primeval", Season 3, Episode 10 @ 05:47 pm
The best word to describe this, the season finale, is: underwhelming. If they aren't careful in the next season, I'd say the creators and writers of Primeval could be doomed to fall into the Lost trap: meandering aimlessly while they figure out what they want the overall plot arc to be about. Already we have this season, which introduced loads of new ideas, but with very little pay-off. Plus, ending the season with three of the characters in the state they're in now is just unfair. My reaction to the ending of the Doctor Who Easter special this year: Doctor, you idiot. *headdesk* I mean, really, what's the Doctor without a companion? I mean, the guy's like Batman: no matter how many times he goes on about how he works alone, he still needs people to assist him, as do we all. May 19th, 2009"Star Trek" (2009) @ 01:07 am
As the title Star Trek is only two words, I shall try to use just two words that will encompass all of what I thought of this movie. I believe SPECTACULARLY AWESOME will do just fine. "A." May 11th, 2009(no subject) @ 09:20 am

As someone who never found Star Trek that interesting, I must admit I am becoming more and more interested in seeing this new movie. (Come to think of it, though, straight space-travel movies are hard ones to win me over. Star Wars I enjoy mainly because of its connections to epic fantasy, as well as being some of the first movies to include alien wildlife in addition to more "civilized" aliens. The Alien & Predator movies drew me in because of the fascinating creatures at their core. Firefly and Serenity worked for me because of the characters and their interactions. And Doctor Who is slowly winning me over, mostly because of the infectious personality of the Doctor, who seems to be 50% Captain Jack Sparrow and 50% the Genie from Disney's Aladdin. But somehow, stuff like Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica have never managed to interest me. Go figure.) More importantly, however, this weekend witnessed my little sister's bat mitzvah. It's probably a little cliche to simply say I am proud of her, but that doesn't make it any less true. :D Finally, just a couple more months before I start my semester abroad in New Zealand. (See? I told you once they started on The Hobbit I was gonna go there.) May 2nd, 2009My ranting over the latest "Primeval": @ 10:44 pm
I'm not sure whether to be thrilled or horrified with this latest Primeval episode. ( SPOILERS ) Granted, Primeval's grasp on its female characters has always been spotty (the show has certainly failed the Bechdel test more than once), but this is a whole new low. With such strong female characters on British TV as Gwen Cooper and Martha Jones out there, the makers of Primeval really have no excuse.Definitely not the best episode the show's had to offer thus far. April 19th, 2009My assessment of the latest "Primeval" episode: @ 01:52 pm
Giganotosaurus carolinii (aka "G-Rex"), one of the few carnivorous dinosaurs bigger than T. rex, versus Jason Flemyng in a helicopter? HELLZ YEAH! Plus I imagine Nigel Marven enjoyed doing his cameo immensely. April 18th, 2009A Stye and the Doctor @ 10:08 pm

I seem to have developed a stye on the inside of my left eyelid. It's certainly very painful. In other news, I've tried watching a few episodes of Doctor Who, but find myself unable to really get into it, despite the fact that I like the character of the Doctor. Torchwood, on the other hand, seems more promising, but I still feel like I'd have to first see a couple episodes of Doctor Who featuring Jack Harkness in order to really "get" it. And speaking of British TV shows, tonight holds another new episode of Primeval in store for me. Hooray! April 15th, 2009(no subject) @ 10:28 pm

From this article: Other protesters also took direct aim at Obama. One sign in the crowd in Madison, Wis., compared him to the anti-Christ. At a rally in Montgomery, Ala., where Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It" blared from loudspeakers, Jim Adams of Selma carried a sign that showed the president with Hitler-style hair and mustache and said, "Sieg Heil Herr Obama." FAIL, FAIL, FAIL. I understand that this a democracy, but such comparisons as these lend zero credibility to your arguments. As for my opinion: guys, the whole reason Obama won the election was because the majority felt that he could get us out of this mess. Just give him a fucking chance.
