So, I drove to work this morning, a little later than usual because there were no appointments and it was just a catch-up day. As I drove south, I realized that the roads which were just fine at home were bad and getting worse. And that I really didn't want to spend my day worrying about getting back over the mountain. So I ended up leaving again, without punching in, and I'll do what needs be done on a day when it isn't life-threatening to drive to the resort.
Also, I feel like crap -- I may have caught a case of Ick from a party-goer. Sigh. And I was doing so well this winter. So I am on the couch with blankets and tea and the Internet. Bliss.
Speaking of bliss, a co-worker (one I actually like) gave me a copy of a recipe for a Thai curry soup from a recent issue of (I think) Cooking Light. I made it and it is AWESOME and I just had some for lunch.
( Recipe, very freely adapted to what I had on hand: )

Was having an interesting discussion with Osirus last night regarding whether fat chicks (or, well, me in particular) should/would be offended by the concept of chubby-chasers. I am of the opinion that it's the same as it would be if someone was with me only because I was pretty and thin and had nice tits. Relationships solely based on physical attributes don't seem "real" to me. And there's the added component of "they're so desperate for a man that they'll put up with anything to hang on to one" that bugs me (and which I see a LOT of in mainstream TV and movies).
Anyway. That's what I get for dating a Philosophy major. :) Anyone have opinions on the subject?

You are Snacky! You are obsessed with high calorie, low health food that make everyone who loves you fat and ugly. You do this on purpose so you won't stand out. You made up some "law" a while back that gets quoted now and then, and the fame has gone to your head. You are just nice to people's faces and rip them to shreds behind their backs, though your razor wit has grown dull from overuse.

I got a lovely email from JF this morning wishing me a happy birthday (which so far not so much, but I have hopes). Right now I'm enjoying my extra-large Dunkin' Donuts hazelnut coffee and looking at all the sunshine out in the world. Whee.
More later, as it develops.

The Mag7 theme ... in my HEAD!!!!! |
] |
Yeah, it happens every once in a while.
So ZR gave me lots of shiny Mag7 DVDs, and I started watching ...
It's so cute how Buck flirts with JD like that. No, seriously, they are just adorable!
I somehow had Vin & Chris mixed up in my head, but holy fucking GUH does Eric Close look good in a duster.
Sadly, the DVD started acting up just as Ezra was riding away from the seige on the town. Unless I see some pretty compelling evidence to the contrary he seems a bit of a rat-bastard for that. I'm going to try it in the mini DVD player we gave Chaz for Xmas, in hopes that it will play to the end. Must see how it all comes out!
In other news I need a divorce like yesterday, and I'm working at least a ten-hour shift on my birthday tomorrow. It doesn't get any better than this. No. Really.

Dunno if anybody even reads this, but I don't want to get bounced as inactive, so...
I'm at work, bored out of my skull. Co-worker L will be here at 2, so we'll both be bored.
And if one more person asks me if I've got all my shopping done, I won't be responsible for my actions.

The laptop should be home tomorrow, exactly a month after I last saw it. Evidently there were repairs made to the system board, as well as the touch-pad, and lalalalalaIcan'thearyou... but "Frank" at the repair center said it was on its way home.
Just finished watching FotR for the first time ::ducks ashtray thrown by cee:: and I'm really kicking myself for not having seen it on the big screen. On the other hand, we got the enhanced/extended version, and were able to split it up over two nights, because three-and-a-half hours is a long fucking time to sit in a theatre. Anyway, Viggo pretty, Orli pretty, 'Lijah pretty much too young. My son is halfway through The Two Towers and was giving me a commentary on where they'd strayed from the original (until I told him to hush). We can't watch TTT until he's done reading it, and then I have to dig out TRotK from wherever it's hiding so he can read that.
Can I just mention that I'm thrilled he's reading this stuff? He takes this book everywhere, stuffed in a pocket of his pants or in his backpack. Like mother, like son, I guess -- I found the perfect fall/winter purse today (it's an addiction I have, shuddup) but it wasn't quite big enough for a paperback, so ... no sale. Sigh.
As soon as I get caught up on Monday's SG-1 (tonight, dammit!), I'm going to mainline S-2 due South. Went out and bought DVD cases for the discs, since the yahoos at Alliance/Atlantis (or whoever) saw fit to package them in the most asshatted fashion possible. Grrrr.
What else? Hmmm. There's a sequel to Lust over Pendle, which I may read in a while. Shrift recced Sea Change, which thrills me no end. And my fingers are so cold I can barely type. Methinks it's time for tea and SG-1.

It occus to me that I haven't announced this in any meaningful way, so I shall take the opportunity to do so now.
I've updated my website to include a page of snippets, drabbles and vignettes. It's here. Some are serious, some are very very silly. Most were brought about by the challenges on the ds_flashfiction community, but I'm quite proud of them.
Share and Enjoy.

So anyway, I finally got a good enough paycheck so I didn't feel guilty about spending the money, and Saturday I ordered the due South Season 2 DVDs from Amazon.ca. Yesterday I got the email notice saying they'd been shipped, and that I could expect them sometime around October 2. And I was sad.
I got them today. TODAY!!! And I have all of S2 Oz and 9 eps of S2 Farscape from Blockbuster ... so I really really shouldn't watch them yet ... waaahh! Yay! Waahh!
And let me just say that I love the fact that there's a mood-choice for "fannish."

::blinks, looks around::
Wow, it's pretty dusty over here...
So I've been unable to spend my customary ten hours per day on-line lately (a slight exaggeration) because the laptop is kerflooey and in the shop, and the husband spends 10+ hours playing backgammon and chatting with other players (not an exaggeration at all). It's making me cranky. There's stuff I want to read from recs on LJ, and when I go looking for the entry, I can't even remember whose damn LJ it was in...
On the fannish front, I got two tapes in the mail yesterday -- The Last Stop (Adam Beach! CKR!!) and Buffalo Jump (PG!!! Nekkid!!). I must try to find time to watch them soon. (Yes, I've seen them both. Now I own them. I must, therefore, watch them again. L does not Get This.)
My writing goes nowhere, mainly because I don't sit down and write. But it doesn't feel like there are words there, and if I haul out the old laptop and fire it up just to stare at the screen, it's worse than not writing. Or is it? Hmmm.
::wanders off to clear off laptop desk::

(Sorry for double-posting to LJ and JF)
Hello there,
I would like to inform you about important information regarding your email address. This email address will be expiring. Please read attachment for details.
--- Best regards, Administrator
I got two of these today, both at the same addy (starfish (at) mrks.org), both sent (supposedly) from admin (at) mrks.org. Except, no. It might have worked, if I didn't actually know my admins, and that any hint of MRKS going down the tubes would have been bouncing all over my friendslist and email.
But God knows how they sent it from that addy, so watch out. The attachment was about 22K, zipped.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled fandoms.

So I just watched Slap Shot 2. And it was driving me crazy the whole movie, trying to place the "hockey-chick" coach.
Duh.
Thanks God for IMDB, is all I have to say. Clearly I need to go watch Hunting Season again.

In which I make a startling revelation:
Okay, not startling, and I'm not even absolutely positive it's true, but ... my stories all seem to end with the boys in bed together, drifitng off to sleep. Which is not a bad thing, as endings go, better than someone crying bitter tears as the funeral cortege passes, but still kind of a weird trend.
Am I that one-dimensional as a writer? Is it in fact even true?
Off to check my memory. More later.
