It's been days, weeks, months even, since Cedric’s death, more than Harry can remember. Not long enough, though, because Snape is sprawled on the dungeon floor gasping. Harry watches helplessly.
"I'm fine, Potter.”
And he looks okay, but how can anyone be when they're making that breathless whimpering noise? Harry lays his head on Snape’s legs and holds on.
"I’ll be all right. Go!”
His voice is completely smooth as he runs a hand through Harry’s hair.
‘Am I ready? Am I prepared?’ Snape asks himself. And then he realizes that ragged, gurgling sound is coming from his own throat.
