Evenings with Matchbox Twenty

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Tonight was MB20 gig number one. Local venue. 1800 capacity. There were about ten people (and a railing/bit of space) between where I stood, and Paul Doucette's side of the stage.

Rob was in black jeans, black tee, black waistcoat. Levi's should seriously consider paying him to model. That is how a pair of jeans should look on a man, mmm.

It was 'An Evening With...' as they didn't have an opening band - no support act for the whole UK tour, for whatever reason. So they took the stage about 20.20 and played for about two hours.

Departures from the usual setlist included Waiting for the Train, the bonus track off UK iTunes version of 'North', and Rob doing Downfall as a solo acoustic track (OMG amazing like that!). The rest was a mix of stuff from all four albums, and a cover of INXS's Don't Change.

Live, Sleeping at the Wheel has awesome power. And even though I've watched all the live versions of English Town I could find, hearing it live was just stunning. (It's my favourite track off 'North'.)

Excellent gig, despite the sciatic pain from standing so long! Even dancing in place only does so much, alas.

Fortunately, tomorrow night I have seats. ;-D

Tour dates

For the summer Matchbox/GooGoo Dolls tour. I am amused by: a) the oh so 90s nostalgia extravaganza, and b) that I found this handy list on absolutepunk.net. Seriously.

Details under here. )

Live track of 'Overjoyed'

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
As a thank you for the MB20 Twitter account cracking 100,000 followers (they'll catch up to Rob someday lol), the band put up a free download of 'Overjoyed' from a recent gig - you can get it here. It's good quality; it'll be one of the pro recordings used to make the wristbands.

Snow!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
A good centimetre already and the flurries seem to have settled in, so I thnk we might end up with more than the predicted 2cm.

And whilst part of me was Very Amused at all the omg!incoming! warnings and disaster planning that was going on yesterday, for two centimetres of snow, I've lived through enough winter weather here to know that southern England isn't really designed for snow. So the people who do need to drive, etc., may genuinely be better off trying to work from home or taking a personal day or whatever.

Since I walk, and I can go the longer route which is all flat, I'm fine. I still have my Canuck winter coat so I'll just dust that off and lace up my Docs.

Snow! *g*

Oh now that is more like it!

Sneaky - Vanessa has a song, 'Break Me', that has been used as the soundtrack for a video chronicling the calendar shoot for a couple of the actresses who were on Battlestar Galactica: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qLwpJVtILQ&sns=em.

That is a proper rock song! I love it. *g* She's apparently trying to get it onto iTunes. God only knows *which* iTunes, but I sure hope she manages. The sound certainly illustrates why she split from Universal - it is worlds away from 'Gossip'.

Also, RL!Vanessa's New Year's resolution was apparently to tweet more. She tweeted on the 7th: "Alright guys .... If you really want to know what goes on in my day to day life, here we go. :)". And ever since, she's been very active. And entertaining! )

Oh dear

Vanessa has changed her Twitter avatar.

Picture of a picture... )

How much do you want to bet that the reason she's not showing her face is because she's done yet something else to her hair??? I am amused that the pic does become a bit 'Hi boobs' with covering her face! Bit wary about the hair possibilities though, LOL.

Merry Christmas!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Hope you all have a good one. *hugs*

As December has been mad busy, I haven't had the time or mental wherewithal to do pup shopping, so for those of you with pups who are involved with mine, please assume that Rob or Vanessa got them something lovely for Christmas.

Have netbook, will travel

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I'm off to the airport in a couple of hours - heading across the pond to visit the familia for the rest of the month. I use that in the plural sense, as I will be staying at least three different places that I know of!

I'll be fairly scarce at the weekends and variable otherwise. I *am* hoping to get back into the swing of tagging once I've had a bit of time to decompress. *hugs you all for your patience*

V @ Viper Room

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Vanessa joined another Aussie (-fronted at least!) band for a rendition of Led Zeppelin's 'Rock n Roll' onstage at the Viper Room in LA last week. I'd say it was unexpected, but I don't think anything much will surprise me after the poledancing, LOL! Nice pair of Daisy Dukes, though. *g*

Video; and photo. )

I'll have to rewatch a few more times to catch what she says when she's introduced - something about liking Americans, especially the men!

So the new Matchbox single drops next Tuesday. The site is being revamped, and on the weekend, it was basically a splash page with the option to sign up to a mailing list. Naturally, I did so.

Today, there is a drag-n-drop game with words from the lyrics that can unlock a 30-second snippet of 'She's So Mean' and the single cover art if you play it. And naturally, notification was emailed out to the mailing list members.

From this address: RobThomas@mail.atlanticrecords.com - display name: Rob Thomas. Yes, that's right, it looks like I have an email directly from Rob Thomas in my inbox.

Rob. Dude. Don't do that. It's not as bad as when the actual Paul Mac DM'd me on Twitter to tell me (and anyone else following that account) that it was basically a duplicate account and all the activity was on the other one, but it still gave me pause!!

P.S. I don't listen to snippets and I don't want to hear any thoughts about it if you do, please. *waits for Tuesday*

P.P.S. Yes, one of the words in said lyrics is 'baby'. *g*

Seems to be the first proper interview about the new Matchbox album, and it seems as though the Rob-n-Paul show will continue where promo, etc., is concerned. You know, I thought at the time that they were taking a bloody long time to record, not having finished everything the first time round in Nashville. Apparently old habits die hard. (Also, I'm not sure if it's funnier now, them tweeting back and forth with the sommelier at the winery...) I see the choice of producer was sort of made for them. *faaacepaaalm*

Doucette continues: “We're some strong personalities in this band. One person will be like, ‘I think it should be this,’ and [another will say], ‘I think it should be this.’” Thomas interjects: “ ’No, but I think it should be this,’ and then, ‘You're dead to me.’ ”

Enter Serletic, the producer who had worked on all but one of Matchbox’s albums (2007’s Exile on Mainstream, which served as a greatest hits collection and EP of seven new songs, was produced by Steve Lillywhite). He dropped by the cabin one day to check on their progress and found a band not only inebriated but somewhat lost.

“We needed Matt to come in,” Doucette continues. “We needed someone to be beholden to because there was no one calling the shots. We've known each other for so long that if one of us is like, ‘Alright, get your shit together,’ the reaction is ‘F--- off.’ We need, like, dad to come in.”

Zoo Twilights

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Vanessa's rescheduled concert at the Royal Melbourne Zoo was on Sunday 18 March, and some enterprising soul got a decent bootleg video of the entire thing and uploaded it to YouTube in three sections.

Part 1 - Part 2 - Part 3 (Encore)

Don't be fooled by the fact that she makes her entrance with red hair - she got a replica wig made to wear in public whilst she went through the bleaching process a few months ago, and now that it's a known fact, she seems to be having some fun with it! *g* (And so is her sister. And her drummer. Hee.) She could have saved herself a lot of time and trouble if she'd just gone right for the current black...

Another person got a really phenomenal photo, and turned it into a little YT vid as well: Lioness on Fire.

And now RL!V and Est!V are both back in LA. :-)

d-Y-e

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Jack has been planning to dye some more yarn, and has been talking about that the last few days. He's also still got a bad cold.

For reference, I have a lot of chemical and scent allergies, so he makes sure that he uses dyes when I'm not home.

I just got a phone call from my hairdresser, asking if I wanted to switch my appointment to tomorrow evening from late Saturday afternoon as they had a cancellation, and this is a good fit for me, so I agreed.

Get off the phone, signal Jack to put down his headphones, and tell him tomorrow would be a good day to dye. I don't get to finish saying WHY, because he gives me this look and sputters something about me being mean, telling him when to die.

*sporfle* I am still laughing!
