Sothis* was the most important star in the Ancient Egyptians. We know it today as Sirius. It was sacred to Isis, Hathor, Neith, and Sekhmet. Sothis is the Ancient Greek name. The Ancient Egyptian is Sopdet, but Sothis seems cuter.
