TMI, sorry

I've gotten my second to last pay check (still one more is coming, even though it is small)! And I actually have a small surplus for this semester, but I'm still saving my money like the penny pincher I am. But, I'm pre-excited for Ren-Faire, because I can actually afford a new bodice. Gosh, the one I have is so old that I wore it in high-school and the girls have stretched it out. Plus its Cordoroy (I didn't know better at the time!).

I would like to buy it at Faire but I always feel so strange when people hawk things to me (although I know half the fun is trying on bodices and people being in character). I really wish I had time to sew at school (I've made three costumes-I'm not super good, but I can at least follow a pattern). Now, my friend's sister gave her a whole stash of old costumes so I should be able to borrow some of her clothes until I can buy my own when I get there, but there is quite a difference between our body shape so I think I'll purchase at least the bodice online.

By the way, I got my bodice when I was 14. My dad was with me and super skeeved out by the guy who was helping me. I was a bit smaller and weighed less then.

Is a Bodice significantly different than a corset?

My corset is ace. I have a SHELF when I wear it! Like, a significant shelf!

Ooh! Cool!

Thanks for the links!

HAHA...I messed up the coding on that one.

Corsets didn't come into use until the 19th century. There are quite a few differences. I think the significant difference was the bodices are intended to keep the torso warm as their primary function and corsets are primarily meant to shape.

I thought that wasn't quite true. Corsets were in use in the Renaissance, weren't they, but only for noblewomen?

I have this vague (possibly inaccurate) memory that Katherine of Aragon brought the corset with her from Spain. I do not think these were much like the corsets used in the Victorian era onward, though.

Corsets were not in use in the Regency, though (alas for so many historical novels!). I do know that.

I definitely want to make a bodice as well, but I haven't had much luck finding patterns online. There's this</a>, but I don't know how accurate it is. They all have princess seaming, and I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that that isn't period - maybe someone could figure out how to alter the pattern?

I cannot believe I'm the least likely to eat you all. Also, I want a bodice, but I want a fitted cotehardie more, and I can't find any decent patterns and it sucks. And also I'm trying to make my daughter a cloak and turns out I'm going to have to piece the lining because the fabric's not wide enough and bleh. BLEH! *frowns*

My friend scored a 72% when I showed her. I had to point out that we only had a difference of 7% so she would probably not get to eat me.

I made a really bad cloak once. I had to modify the pattern because I wanted a short one and it was too long.
