[12 Jan 2009|06:56pm]
Good news for John Sheppard (and a lot of other people too...)

http://change.gov/newsroom/entry/open_for_questions_round_2_response/

The bit you want starts at 4 minutes 15.

I'm sorely tempted to suggest that there should be a celebratory ficathon, possibly multi-fandom, if it really does go through.

Author: [info]temaris
Fandom: Magnificent Seven (ATF AU)

A/N: This might be considered a snippet from the next bit of my Latin Series. But it stands alone reasonably well too. I hope *g*

Free stuff! [05 Jan 2008|03:53pm]
*is very amused*

Have: 1 copy of The Little Norse Prince still in its original wrapping. Gornded.

Have: 1 copy of The Ghost Brigades (book, so, er, wrapping free). And gone :-)

Will: Put it in the post on Monday to the address of your choice.

Won't: Ask for anything in return, it's my own damn fault I've got two copies.

First come first served.

*starts ceilidh*

(well. we've got enough twirls by now *G*)

Festivus-Fic! [02 Jan 2008|06:14pm]
Or some such winterval-fest :-)

I wrote two stories for Yuletide. One might suppose with the first that I'm developing a theme ;-)

Home for Christmas is a Biggles story, set straight after The Last Show in The Camels are Coming, wherein Biggles is captured by the Germans and isn't having any, thank you.
Bizarrely, I wasn't matched on Biggles, but it was there, and I got jumped by an idea. I still have thoughts about the request I was matched on. [info]forlornhope42 helped me with a lot of the German, and [info]lavvyan didn't run for the hills when I pounced on her for emergency last second translations *g* Thank you both. Biggles' German, btw, is deliberately wrong :-)

The Long Dance, a (700 word) coda to Dogsbody by Diana Wynne Jones. Kathleen waits and the years turn, might be a suitable summary.
I'm particularly pleased by the dogs' names, which are all stars in Canis Major :-) I'm less than pleased by calling a zoi a zor, but no matter.

And I wrote a story for[info]sga_santa too.
Red Flowers (part one) | Part Two | Part Three, or Complete story on my website. It's a teamfic, wherein they visit a city called Canlaon and discover how double-edged 'caveat emptor' can be. Betad by [info]mandragora1, [info]alyse and [info]moonlettuce, bless them.

Y hello thar 2008: Do not suck pliz. [01 Jan 2008|09:43pm]
Am full of cold and exhausted - had a brilliant time up at Claire's, and I hope I didn't give everyone my cold.

Hope you all had a most excellent New Year, and that it will continue to be as good. Mine started with fireworks and friends and hot chocolate and gay bdsm village people vampire porn (Lair! In which Colin the vampire looks like Sean Harry! Swear to God. Anyone who doesn't know who Sean Harry is, don't worry, anyone who *does*, it's worth the price of entry right there *g*). Which I feel bodes well, unless there continue to be many Sean Harry lookalikes in 2008. In which case, no.

Will reply to comments and post about Fic What I Wrote some other day when I can breathe. *hugs all*

Defrosting the freezer is a very enjoyable way to spend an hour or so. I have no patience, so me, a blunt knife, an ice scraper and my hairdryer took really quite a large amount of ice to pieces very quickly. One lump -- a sheet straight across the back -- came out in one piece. It was peculiarly satisfying.

I had plans to replace the on-the-blink car stereo with something I could plug my mp3 player into but they can't fit it until next week. So it will be a very quiet journey up north tomorrow. If I pack in time. (Clara: have added pyjamas. Am contemplating adding fluffy blanket.)

Yuletide! And I have two (TWO!) Dalemark stories about Mitt and Maewen. Oh *glee*.

Your Boy is Like a Memory, which gives Maewen things to do and *plans*, clever Mitt and Maewen :-)

And a Yuletide Treat! The Paths of the Undying, where Maewen rides the green roads on the trains, and looks for Mitt. Lovely touches -- Alk's statue, and the statuette. Mmm.

And my recipient liked hers! *is relieved*

And now we go open presents. Or we *better* *g*

Happy Christmas, cool yule, and terrific Tuesday:-) [24 Dec 2007|03:01pm]
Ah, what a day. But it's a happy one, withal.

I went and checked my post this afternoon -- the box is downstairs and the postman came up on Saturday because I had to sign for stuff. So I thought that was everything -- but it wasn't! There was stuff!

[info]lavvyan: *squeak* yes I can read it, oh *John*. Oh Rodney. Also: am strangely intrigued by ironic Swedish soul *g*

[info]stagie cute! thank you :-)

Clara! *pretty* Plus requiring construction *g*

Halifax: you reduced my mortgage payments! (Ok, I *know*, but really, it's great news for me *G*)

I'm now over at the parentals, who have broadband, but I think I'm supposed to be socialising or something... go figure ;-)

Mmm. I'm sitting here just brimming over with happiness, and some of that's cards (thank you!) and pressies and general overspill of goodwill, and some of it's post-fic-endorphins, and some of it is because really, fandom makes me happy. My friends, my friendslist -- friendslists, JF, IJ too -- make my day better every day. The Tribe-That-Is-Fandom is good people. Stick around, hmm? :-)

AKA yes! I stalk you all! All! bwah ha ha ha!

*hugs&kisses*

Someone on the flist, I think, linked to this which is just *pretty*, oh my god, and demands not merely stories but some sort of Age of Sail episode, because I would pay somuch money to see that on screen.

[20 Dec 2007|10:38am]
It was sunny about half an hour ago, and I looked up a couple of minutes ago, and Jesus H, where the hell did the fog come from? It's getting thicker by the minute too,and I was going to nip out and get some milk and bread and doughnuts. You know. The essentials ;-)

No wonder my feet are freezing. Technically, the village is on an island so there's always a certain level of humidity, but this just came out of nowhere.

I think I better go grab some essentials before visibility drops any further.

I've posted everything except the books for people -- they will probably be tomorrow once I'm back in work.

ETA: The fog's lifted some (I can see across the street now!) and Sainsbury's was an absolute nightmare.

(hurl yourself from the cliff)

Whee! [17 Dec 2007|12:35pm]
Thank you everyone who wished me a happy birthday :-) It was in fact absurdly good, mostly consisting of mooching, lazing, sloping out to the shops for emergency milk supplies after getting through all my milk in an orgy of hot chocolate, and reading, reading, reading :-)

I have lots and lots of lovely pressies -- mostly books ;-) I have the two first Dexter books to compare to the series (book one is quite like in some ways, and very unlike in others), and the Nightwatch books, and one on Fan Culture, and oh, lots of books. Thank you, everyone who sent books :-) or cds :-) And there was Dresden files on DVD and Eddie Izzard on dvd, and lots of shiny music to listen to as well :-)

And I made brownies and banana bread for the office, and I have a sugar induced headache already, but who cares *g*

And now I go to beat my head on the brick wall that is the Cyrillic character set.

Dude. I *want* those knives. (only you know, much, much cheaper. Even with a 50% discount that's kind of a bit much. And I *have* kitchen knives. I just want the dead body.)

(sorry it's late! Hopefully I get points for navigating the postal system successfully this year ... unless it crapped out on me.)

[09 Dec 2007|12:57pm]
Apparently I hadn't completely backed upmy music before my desk top died last summer. At any rate, I'm pretty sure all the Christmas music is on it (Mediamonkey can't find any of it, and there were tonnes of wassail songs, and a version of Gabriel's Message, and Dancing Day, and I have a yen for Torches, and it's all gone.).

I've wrapped everything for Christmas. TomorrowToday I may buy a tree. This is exciting. The flat smells of cinnamon and ginger and cloves (because I have a Christmas scents candle going *g*). The floor is labelled 'Dear Dad, Happy Christmas, love [me]' until I locate the white spirit. When I say wrapped, one or two parcels remind me more of some vaguely Christmas themed mummification.

I need something else for my Dad, and I've decided, in a moment of extreme grumpiness, to get work related books for one of my siblings. I could have gone with vouchers, but this is a way to put in thought, time and effort, and *actively* annoy them.

Next, Christmas cards. Tomorrow, the world! bwah ha ha ha...

Um.

And I'm about to post this, and discovered that dear old LJ have reset my layout to Vertigo for some unknown reason. Perhaps they can censor things more closely in it. No *thank you*. Handily, while you can't see Xcolibur normally, if you go to http://www.livejournal.com/manage/settings/?view=schemes you can. So I did.

I am ... concerned. Journalfen was down for the best part of a week last week. Livejournal is definitely going to the dogs (though the staff appear to be getting better, the decisions are worse). I'm definitely thinking Insanejournal.

Slashbash cancelled -- wrong kind of train company :-( [07 Dec 2007|11:47pm]
I.e. The sort that doesn't run on weekends in December. WTF 'One'? WTF?

Unless I hear otherwise from people, I am assuming that we're now postponing until Feb. Will post again then :-)

ETA: Al: thank you :-) I found them yesterday :-) Whee! /cryptic back at ya:-)

Procrastination ofthe first order [07 Dec 2007|12:35am]
I had all these ideas about writing stories and stuff, and you know, never, ever let me think, hey, I have *plenty* of time, again.

Ah well.

Stupidly busy at work. This is mostly a good thing, but sometimes it really makes me want to up and quit. Am re-reading the Vorkosigan books: forward momentum may or may not be applicable to my current life, but would make things much more entertaining in the office than perhaps is wise. Still ...

Oh. And I posted part 39 of Ghosts of the Federation about twenty minutes ago. It's not the end, there's one more part and an epilogue. But they're all written. The fixed version of the story up to Part 38 is on my website.

Beta thanks to Megan Kent, who slogged through the whole damn thing. Thank you :-) Naturally, all remaining mistakes and subsequent changes are my fault entirely :-)

Slashbash -- travel update :-( [06 Dec 2007|10:36pm]
My local station is closed this weekend, the bastards. Engineering works. It will take about an extra half hour to get to my place, going to an alternate station, walking to the nearest busstop (about five or ten minutes walk) and getting the bus. I am quite willing to ferry people to and fro, but, considering the weather and the probability of having to walk in it at some point, I'd be willing to postpone to, um, say February... (January is completely shot. I suspect things will still not be working the weekend of the 5/6th, and I'm booked every weekend after that, one way and another.)

Let me know which you would prefer :-)

ETA: [info]kittygoslingp, I got your message: [info]rhade_rad:-)

I for one welcome our new Soviet overlords ... [03 Dec 2007|09:49am]
Well, hell, yes they *might* be worse than 6A, but at least it makes sense of the whole flagging thing. And the downtime yesterday. Maybe.

So, this sounds potentially good. Seriously. Andrew Paulson, the CEO of SUP seems -- *seems* -- to get blogging and media. A dedicated company, investment, an LJ advisory board with two members elected from LJ -- oh LJ, the wank storm cometh! -- it does all sound fairly promising. But things have sounded promising before. I'm taking a moment to enjoy shaking the 6A dust from my heels.

On the other hand... )

Home, home on the range* [27 Nov 2007|09:49pm]
'm home and I'm *still* bored. Maybe I should stage a coup and oust Al from [info]mckay_sheppard *g* But not from Wraithbait. I might have to try to sort out e-Fiction and really, a girl's gotta draw a line. Also, the security's rather better on our ISP than it apparently is on LJ.

Last night was Dexter. Dexter! dexterdexterdexter! (spoilers for 209) )
