Home, home on the range* 'm home and I'm *still* bored. Maybe I should stage a coup and oust Al from Last night was Dexter. Ahem. So. Poor old Doakes, eh? I laughed quite a lot when I was watching, and it is only thinking back that I'm caught by how sad this episode actually was. Rita is lonely, and the kids miss Dexter and he misses them; that whole conversation between him and Rita on the phone was funny and painful, and Dexter was so dorkily happy that they were getting back together -- Lila has helped him, no matter what else she has done. But Lila's desperate -- so's Angel. Doakes finally gets everything he ever wanted and more -- his hero journey completes. Capturing Dexter makes all the shit, all the pain and the hassle and the ostracism and mockery worthwhile. But it's his victory for *seconds*. Lundy and Deb argue, sort of; LaGuerta doesn't understand what the hell is going on with Doakes -- and is probably sinking right alongside him; Masuka loses his LFI position on the taskforce -- to Dexter. And Dexter comes back to the code of Harry, escaping arrest by the skin of his teeth only to find that the code traps him: Doakes can't be killed, but he can't be freed either. Everyone loses something, or settles for something. The whole thing from the knock on the door to the point at which they said Doakes I was just on tenterhooks of they *can't*, it's gotta, they *must*, I can't bear to watch; I can't bear to look away... My stomach was twisting, it was just *brilliant*, disconnected and Dexter musing as he went, cutting between the execution and the present (Harry took him to an execution?>?!! *stares*), and I really didn't know, I hoped, but I didn't know. *Such* a relief, and so, so ironic even if it was exactly what everyone suspected. He said sorry to Deb, and with that thing about insisting on her moving out -- I think he feelsmore, even if he's stillnot admitting it to himself. It's the normal thing, the wise thing, but it's also his first instinct. He's integrating better. I do wonder if that urge to kill will fade with time, now that those connections are happening? I wonder if he'll remember to sweep his boat for bugs and gps transponders in future. I wonder how the hell he's going to get rid of Jimenez and back to the apartment with a gunshot wound in his leg. I'd guess he's going to take Doakes' gun and frame him somemore, but how -- and *where* .... *where the dear little canteloupe play. *nods* Post a comment in response: |
