I for one welcome our new Soviet overlords ... Well, hell, yes they *might* be worse than 6A, but at least it makes sense of the whole flagging thing. And the downtime yesterday. Maybe. So, this sounds potentially good. Seriously. Andrew Paulson, the CEO of SUP seems -- *seems* -- to get blogging and media. A dedicated company, investment, an LJ advisory board with two members elected from LJ -- oh LJ, the wank storm cometh! -- it does all sound fairly promising. But things have sounded promising before. I'm taking a moment to enjoy shaking the 6A dust from my heels. It could all go horribly wrong, *but* the company is incorporated in California, and while all sorts of horrid things could happen, OTOH, they might not. 6A do not strike me as the sort of people who think to protect their users (duh) when divesting themselves of a major thorn in their sides. I'd be fascintaed to know how much LJ changed hands for, and the terms of the agreement, but long standing US distrust of all things Russian will probably do as much to keep things even keeled as anything else. But you never know. On the other hand, this handily distracts us from the flagging thing. Honestly, I think it needs some changes, but on reflection? I'm really not bothered by the thought of kids having to lie to get access to adult materials. At least we can't be blamed if they do it. And considering say, the punitive Australian legislation on corruption of minors, it may even make some people's lives easier. It's annoying for lurkers, yes. But there's no *checking* of birthdates, and an LJ is free. It's not like Journalfen doesn't ban all under 18s anyway. You get 5 flags a day, you need an account for a month, and *yes*, I think that people will descend and flagstorm as well as comment storm, but if, *if*, LJ have any brains at all (questionable) they will ignore it as petty malice. It's not like people gone trolling for something to report their current hate object to Abuse because of a feud before now. I think losing all the information above the cut that allows someone to make an informed decision about whether or not to click is a bad idea. But I think they would have to actually give us a separate 'summary' area though, to easily get around it, and I can see people abusing *that* to put exactly the kind of stuff they don't want above the adult cuts in the summary. I also think it should be possible for moderators to re-rate entries individually and globally on community posts. I think we might go with some sort of three comments and you're out arrangement, though we need to work out the details before getting heavy handed. My LJ is getting set as g rated, or whatever they're calling it. I've not been posting fiction here in a while, and I think I may well simply use one of my accounts on journalfen to post fic in future. At least there I don't have to worry about any of this.
