Beowulf: his name in lights? [19 Nov 2007|12:52pm]
Bathroom light fixed -- definitely recommending the electrician bloke: discounted his quoted price when he realised how quick a fix it was. Plus, he recognised Sheppard and McKay and loves Stargate. And chatted about the awfulness of Sky and Virginmedia, and the joys of broadband. And then he commented that we had the same musical taste. And then I asked for a quote on doubling all the single sockets in the flat, which perhaps wasn't the next stage in the conversation he was having, but anyway *g*.

Saw Beowulf (spoilers, comments, general maundering) )

... I find I still know bits of the dance to the Spice Girls' Stop. My Brownies taught it to me one pack holiday ...

That's no excuse.

Who sing very well.

Winter interalia [14 Nov 2007|06:07pm]
It got cold. I bought a skirt instead of the winter coat I meant to get on Saturday, but the skirt was pretty, and the coats were all fugly. I may also have acquired a top and a pair of jeans (with starbursts and purple bits! come on!). Oh well. I'll just wear the jackets with increasingly bulky woolly jumpers under them, and look more and more like the Michelin man daily (with stars! *g*)

dreams, trampled on [09 Nov 2007|07:06pm]
I swear this morning I was lying in bed, half awake and listening to the radio as usual, and the guy said something about 4 degrees outside, max nine, wrap up warm, and then there was the news and the storm surge and then they were talking about a sudden strike by the RMT and all trains were cancelled... and I thought, huh, the train drivers wanted to cancel Friday too *g*

I got up (some indeterminate time of dozing later) and thought, hmm, not sure, let's check. Oooh, maybe I could work from home ... but it's odd I haven't heard anything...

And it must have been a dream. Partly, mostly, entirely, I don't know. Trains in East Anglia were apparently cancelled because of the flooding. But there were no strikes. No fair my subconscious pretending to do radio announcements. Yes, I already knew I wanted to take today off, thank you. It's not possible so stop tantalising me.

In other news: where did this work ethic thing come from and can I give it back?

ETA: Silverlink was striking. I feel ... vaguely better, but very confused.

I see you! [03 Nov 2007|12:07am]
I've been waiting for the full press release on Google's OpenSocial thing, and I've found a copy from yesterday. And tucked away in it, finally, after among all the rest of the big social networking sites that they describe as partners, is SixApart. They weren't mentioned before (as far as I could see, and I've been busy and not checking in as much detail as I should), and I was starting to worry that SixApart had decided to sit this one out -- a bad choice, considering how tiny their market share is, and how fragmentary.

I'd be willing to hzard a guess, all things being equal, that some of this is Brad's new thing. I kind of hope so. And if it does do what it *might* -- take the OpenID idea and use it to blend social networking sites, then that's maybe going to take journalling to the kind of place where we can have our cake and eat it -- flists for everyone, not just one site at a time. Communities outwith sites.

On another note, if I don't use my default icon do people not notice it's me? I'm one of those people who has a 100 empty icon spaces, and I rarely use anything other than the default. I keep thinking it would be nice to have more icons, but I know I wouldn't use them, and then I get thrown when two people have the same or similar icons -- which when they are fandom based icons, is obviously a pretty natural sort of hazard ... and so I stick with my default and occasionally trot out the others.

Oh, go on then:

I've got quite a few new people on my flist now, so if any of you want to ask something, please do ask away. Even if you're not new on my flist and want to ask me something then please do.

Dear Yuletide writer-person :-)

First of all: thank you! You volunteered for one of my pet fandoms, and I'm so glad :-) I was kind of detailed in my requests, I think (hope!) )

:-) [17 Oct 2007|04:24pm]
I haven't yet found a way to be entirely coherent about Connotations last weekend. You guys rock like a rocking horse on crack :-)

I'm exhausted -- I slept all day yesterday after driving home Monday on four hours sleep, and four hours the night before, and five hours the night before *that*, and I don't regret a second :-)

Book meme [01 Oct 2007|12:56pm]
These are the top 106 books marked as "unread" by LibraryThing's users (as of lunchtime today). As usual, bold what you have read, italicise what you started but couldn't finish, and strike through what you couldn't stand.

Whee! [30 Sep 2007|08:57pm]
Well, that was fun:-)

Lots of people crowded into the flat, and I pity the neighbours listening to the talking and squeeing and arguing and yelling to make yourself heard and Supernatural gag reel, but you know, tough. They can go find their own slashy friends :-)
