So, if one receives a chiding letter from a utility company, the emotionally healthy and rational response is to go out and buy some new books, right?

Hey, nothing calms you down better than curling up with a good book. You needed those to deal with the stress!
Exactly. Plus, since the books were both in the genre I want to get published in, they were an investment in my future!

Is that like buying new clothes at the thrift store or on eBay because the credit card company called you on the phone? I don't know what planet the logic comes from either but can definitely relate to it.
Precisely the same, I think. When I was between jobs I had the 'go look at eBay' bug bad, even when I couldn't buy anything. | |
