My car broke down right before an intersection yesterday. I had always been afraid of breaking down like that, but when it actually happened, well -- it wasn't that bad. Actually, it was... kind of lucky that my car cut out when it did.

I had changed lanes early, so I was in the leftmost turn lane rather than in the middle of the street. Also, I could have stalled out on 495 if it had happened during my commute (can you spell NIGHTMARE?). Instead, it happened in Howard County, MD, home of the we're-so-filthy-upper-middle- class-our-policemen- have-nothing-to-do crowd, so a police car arrived pretty much IN TWO MINUTES. Also, the nice officer even tried to give my car a jump start and let me use her cell phone to call my mom (zomg thanks mom).

So I'm out $120 for the tow truck and $270 for the fix, but... coulda been worse! Also, they took care of the oil change while my car was at the shop, so FREE WEEKEND WHOOOO.

Sigh.. guess I'm lucky I have a job to pay for this, huh?

On an unrelated note, uh... bought Radiant Dawn today, though I can't play it till I finish PoR and that WHORE OF A BLACK KNIGHT. Argh.

I did, however, take a look at the manual, and Sothe... uh... WOW HE GOT REALLY HOT that certainly is a midrifftastic outfit.

Also: My quarter-life crisis continues.

The Black Knight killed me again.

Three times.

The last two times, I didn't even last one goddamn turn because his whatever special skill thingy went off twice. How many times did mine go off?

EXACTLY ZERO.

Also, Reyson is awesome. Wait, you're like a dancer, but you give EVERYONE AROUND YOU extra turns AND heal them AND you can fly?

Rhys: Who were you sparring with? And why did they hit you hard enough to draw blood?
Kieran: Sparring? Ha! No one spars with Kieran! I'm too much man for them! No, I was just swinging my axe around.


Kieran: Ho, I'm fine! Don't worry about old Kieran! I just need to pull this axe out of my head here... Whooo, that's sharp!

...explain a LOT.

Boyd died again on the VERY LAST ENEMY HIT before the battle ended, so I just left him dead. Of course, then Oscar and Rolf spent the next battle guilting me for it.

I am now on my third or fourth try at getting onto the damn ship for Begnion or whatever, I've FINALLY gotten Zihark (thanks for not giving me a choice about whether or not I'd like to counterattack, FE), and then I forget Kieran needs a heal and HE dies. ARRRRRRGH. I have terrible luck with axe wielders. I'm also terrible at multi-tasking, and this battle involves

(a) visit all houses before they explode
(b) raise my weak little nooblets (Nephenee's not that bad compared to freaking MIST AND ROLF and sometimes Marcia, but my characters are all either KILL ENEMY IN ONE HIT or DO 5 DAMAGE)
(c) recruit Zihark
(d) four-way forces split!

and I am NOT using a guide, so I just have to retry stuff until things work. Garrrrr.

On the subject of bad luck, I saved my drink from spilling while I closed the door, tried to put it down, and then promptly spilled it. I towelled up the mess, poured myself another drink, and then promptly knocked that over, too. FUCK.

STRATEGY RPGS = NOT GOOD FOR MY RAGE PROBLEM.

So yesterday I got up to chapter 6 or so, when we're about to fight an evil green-haired general to get to... uh... that country to the south with the laguz.

* I still don't like knights. I mean, I like the knight guy even though he's kind of a dweeb, but they're just so... SLOW. The game has been doing a good job of making me use almost everyone (but not Titania, she just eats up my XP :<), though. Also, I wish I didn't have to start Soren out at level 1 when everyone else is 8 already, though. I thought he was studying with another mercenary group! What were they studying, ballroom dance?

* I still think my battles would go faster if I didn't have to worry about characters dying (I am NOT restarting my Wii every time someone dies). As a result, my Disgaea style is heavily offensive and involves THROWING NINJAS and my Fire Emblem style is... well, basically standing in one place a lot.

* I will try to use Pegasus Knights this game. I really, really will. Or wyvern riders who I like better rawr Cormag and Heath!

Oh, that reminds me -- usually, RPG Maker games end up being (a)crappy, and (b)unfinished, but Aurora Wing is actually pretty good and a lot like FE (A LOT, it's basically a tribute game).

Path of Radiance first impressions:

* Ike has mommy issues liek whoa.
* I wish 2D games that have already perfected their gameplay would stop turning into awkward 3D games. The cutscenes are nice, but watching noodly polygonal models thwack each other just isn't my thing. And it's about the strategy anyway -- it's okay to be a sprite!
* I can SHOVE people? I guess I should've listened to that tutorial after all. I'm a hooligan, look at me!
