Dear Republican party:
There was once a time that, even when I didn't agree with you, I could basically believe that you were good, reasonable people at heart who simply had different values. Maybe you were a little ignorant -- after all, you're mostly made up of white dudes that have never known what it was like to be the one who was different. You're the ones for whom the American dream
did come true and thus find it hard to believe that sometimes it doesn't.
Please take a good, hard look at yourselves and stop letting nutjobs run your party. The ends do not always justify the means. Resorting to willful ignorance, shameless spin, public pandering, and booing people down instead of arguing an actual
stance may all get you sympathy or popularity or power, but in the end you're left with a populace who:
* rejects civility and conscience for moral relativism and apologism
* never question the people on TV (much less their own actions)
* are unable to articulate or form their own opinions
* demonize anyone who disagrees with them
* follow orders rather than lead
This is great if you want to keep the masses loud, proud, and stupid, but it's not a good recipe for civilized society. Or for preventing those same masses from eventually turning their pitchforks on
you. Lowering the level of public discourse hurts everyone in the long run.

Dear Italy,
Being belligerent, arrogant, and combative does not make you a Real Man. Nor does it make you a good leader. Plz ditch Berlusconi, k?
