For anyone who has read The Unit by Ninni Holmqvist, I am hosting a discussion post here on my book blog. All topic questions are rather spoiler-y in nature, thus the River Song SPOILERS banner on the top of the post.

And if you haven't read The Unit, you really should. It's fantastic.

Just finished marathoning through eight episodes of Claymore . . . I'll try to finish the series by tomorrow night, I promise, Katie-sister! :o

Sleep. Sleeeep. Need sleep now. Before I go cross-eyed. o.o

These last couple of weeks have seemed so stressful, but I wouldn't give up this life for any other in the world. It may piss me off from time to time or leave me sad and lonely, but I love it. I really do. And I'm ready to move forward, to wherever this life is willing to take me, to wherever I'm willing to stand on my own two legs.

I want to become a better, stronger person. I want to go to Purdue and become more educated. I want to work, to become less of a burden on my family. I want to become someone I can look back on many years later and be proud of. I want my high school diploma to be followed by a college degree, a published work of fiction, something I can hold up and say, "This is the closest you'll get to a symbol of me."

But right now, I'm just gonna climb into bed and sleeeeep. :)

A letter for Fox News

I wrote an e-mail to FNC concerning my utter disgust at their coverage of the general election and Obama's campaign. And, of course, I post it in my journal in case some Fox News employees come and read it. Have at it, boys.

SUBJECT: RE: Current news cycle on the general election

Dear Fox News,

For several years, I was a loyal viewer of your news network. I watched your coverage of current events from early morning to early evening, and enjoyed every minute of it. It was fresh, interesting, and always up to date. To me, you were the voice of modern Republicans in the country, and I embraced you for it. After all, you had the important talking heads I looked forward to watching: O'Reilly, Hannity, et cetera.

But that was when I was 14, and 15, and 16 years old. I'm eighteen now, and eligible to vote in the general election that's coming up this November. And I'm not voting Republican. No, it's not because of you - I've always been a liberal Republican, and I've felt the party's become rather a lame duck since, well, 2003-2004.

No, it's your coverage of the general election so far that has cemented my beliefs that you are no longer the news station I once revered and respected as the gospel. In fact, your latest dissection of Barack Obama and his wife Michelle is flat-out disgusting. Cry all's fair in love and war if you want to, but that doesn't include racism and misogyny.

You've called Michelle Obama 'Baracks' baby's mama'. Are you honestly ignorant of the meaning behind those words, and how racist they are? You've just insinuated that a candidate for First Lady of the White House is just the mother of Barack Obama's children, nothing more - and that's putting it lightly.

I won't even get into the 'terrorist fist jab' you guys called Michelle and Barack's victory bump earlier this month. Is it because he's black? Or that his middle name is 'Hussein'? Or have you just stopped caring about your slogan - that you are 'fair and balanced'? I see no fairness in your coverage of this election. You've given John McCain all the good PR while leaving Barack in the dust. Shame. And then you slander him over his race. Again, shame.

Fox News, you are not fair and you are not balanced. You are a just a tool for the White House and elitist Republicans who use you to get their message out in the disguise of 'news coverage'. Quite frankly, it's disgusting. Just end the charade already - admit your bias to the Republican Party and your disdain for anything that hints at favoring the Democrats.

I really can't think of anything else to say. Your recent news cycle and the ignorance it portrays is so rage-inducing, I can't write any more for fear of breaking into a curse-filled capslock rant of rage against you and your parent company.

Regard this as our break-up letter, if you will. In the words of Martha Jones, "This is me, getting out."

Kindest regards,
Sarah Hayes
Ex-viewer of Fox News

In The Highways [Doctor Who]

TITLE: In The Highways
SERIES: Doctor Who
RATING: PG
CHAPTERS/ONE SHOT: One-Shot
PAIRINGS: Implied Jenny/Martha, Jenny/Donna, Jenny/Jack
GENRE: Crack
SUMMARY: Jenny's very curious for someone only a few weeks old. God forbid her and the information highway ever meet in person. Spoilers for very end of 'Forest of the Dead' and 'The Doctor's Daughter'.

Jenny is very new to this thing called technology. Even more so with the Internet. A combination of the Doctor's know-how and Jenny's natural curiosity (the curiosity of a child, only a few weeks old) doesn't bode well for the rest of the universe. When Jenny's ramshackle little spaceship passes by a galaxy, said galaxy breathes a collective sigh of relief (then says thank you when she shows up and saves them all).

Anyhow, the Internet. She's not allowed to use it anymore. By orders of the boys back at home, who are very busy planting crops and building new cities to actually visit Jenny but they do send holo-mails now and then to check up on the Time Lady (in training, of course, it's a slowly earned title, now it has no academy for her to graduate from properly).

See, the thing about Jenny - sweet Jenny, energetic Jenny, the one with the gun but never kills, that Jenny - is that her fingers are like minature sonic screwdrivers. Touch something and it opens up completely to her, reveals their innermost machinations. Jenny knows it; she takes advantage of it freely. A gift to the heir apparent, she thinks. She likes it. So do the boys back home. (And Martha. And Donna. And Captain Jack - especially Captain Jack).

So imagine those fingers working on the Internet, touching that massive system of connections that span across the world. She's liable to come across something, right? Maybe files on her genetic father? Torchwood security seems to be lax these days, as with UNIT. Jenny plans to meet this 'Lethbridge-Stewart' man one day, ask him questions, listen to his stories of working with the Doctor. But not now; she's too busy running and touching everything in sight.

Then there's all the people, all using the Internet. Jenny wants to talk to them all, listen to them, help them somehow. It's what her father would want, after all - for her to save people. Only her Internet just doesn't reach Earth, oh no. In her little space pod, she's got a map of the universe in her modem, all laid out in zeros and ones. And one way or another, they all know the Doctor. They're perfectly harmless, living their lives in peace and normalcy. Some deal with aliens now, others do private detective work. One lad even has a rock band. Jenny doesn't think much of their 'music', but they've got heart, she'll give them that. It's when Jenny starts talking to these people that things get out of hand and the boys from home end up finally leaving their lush new world to clean up one of Jenny's messes.

Yes, Jenny isn't allowed to use the Internet. Last time she did, she ended up playing several rounds of intergalactic Hearts with River Song and her two children.

RE: Nostalgia Critic's review of 'Pokemon: The First Movie'

Watch the Nostalgia Critic take on Pokemon: The First Movie before reading this post. It'll help ;D

1. This movie is not for people getting into the franchise. This is for Pokemon fans. It was catered to Pokemon fans only. Thus, there's no way you would know what a Pokemon is or who Giovanni is (that's the head of Team Rocket, and only James is gay ;D). Also, the American distributors added 'The First Movie' to the title. There were already several Pokemon movies out by the time the series became mega-popular in America and they knew they'd all be released State-side sooner or later - so they did that.

2. Seriously, Pocket Monsters? Of course they're not gonna call them that. It's a franchise for little kids, they don't want to be saying 'Pocket Monsters' every time they talk about their favorite tv show. I know I sure as hell don't.

3. The world is Kanto. Just so you know. Later sequels have them crossing the ocean and into Johto.

4. You know that's not their original names for Jesse and James, right? Like Ash's real name is Satoshi? You can blame our lame American bretheren for that one. Lord.

5. There was an entire episode you obviously missed where it explained Meowth's back story and how he learned English. That's why.

6. CUT THAT OUT! Ash was raised in a world where Pokemon fighting one another is perfectly normal and is encouraged by the government and every one else. Up to this point in canon, he's never witnessed such a battle before. OF COURSE HE'S FREAKING OUT. Oh, but once again, you didn't watch it. My bad.

7. It's boring and confusing because you never watched Pokemon. DUH.

8. Your shows sucked. They show them on Boomerang and they blow. Except for TMNT, that's the shit.

You want a good Japanese animated film? Watch Satoshi Kon's Paprika; Mamoru Oshii's Ghost In The Shell; Hayao Miyazaki's Laputa: Castle In The Sky. The Pokemon stuff is not for you.

Also, I assume you do not like Mudkips.

And He Did [Doctor Who]

TITLE: And He Did
SERIES: Doctor Who
RATING: PG
CHAPTERS/ONE SHOT: One-Shot
PAIRINGS: Rose/Nine
GENRE: Romance/Angst/AU
SUMMARY: Rose looked into the vortex. And the vortex looked back. AU for 'Parting Of The Ways'. Also posted at LJ and the Teaspoon.

She did it for him. Risked life and limb and her relationships with both her ex-boyfriend and her mum, and it was worth it. She looked into the vortex, the heart of time and space itself, and Rose Tyler disappeared. There was only a myth, a legend, a name scattered across the universe: Bad Wolf.

Bad Wolf was the energy; Rose Tyler was the spirit, the soul. She made the TARDIS go back into its past, Earth' future; with a single gesture, she turned what was life into particles of dust and what was once particles of dust into never-ending life, immortality itself. She thought in chords of alien songs and her mind was brimming with stardust and the energy of the essence of everything.

Rose looked into the vortex. And the vortex looked back. It showed her the past and the present and the future. And the future scared her. She saw the Doctor - her Doctor - burst into flames and like a phoenix create himself anew. She saw Captain Jack suffering with the curse of the wolf's touch; time after time he escaped death, living forever until the end of time. She saw war and famine and the Earth choked by a great black darkness. She saw her Doctor, unconscious, gasping out puff after puff of living, swirling vortex energy.

It scared her. It hurt her. In the end, it made up her mind.

She heard the Doctor call for her. "I think you need a doctor." What a cornball of a line, so typical of her Doctor. She couldn't come to him, couldn't let herself be close to him. Would Rose let the Doctor die just to save herself? She burned from the inside out, tears both hers and yet not streaking her golden face.

It was for the better, after all, Rose reasoned. The universe needed the Doctor, forever and onwards. They needed their savior. Who was she to take that away from them?

Is this your choice?

For him . . . yes.

Rose looked into the Doctor's eyes. For a second, the longest second of her life, she saw the Doctor as what he was: father, grandfather, student, lover, traveler, renegade, runaway, Time's Champion, the Oncoming Storm, the man who walked through time. Rose felt relief. He wouldn't be alone, not for long; someone would come along, fill her space, give him the attention and affection he needs so much.

She smiled, and the Doctor at once realized her intentions. "I can help you---" he started, but Rose shook her head, her glowing blond locks forming a temporary halo around her head.

"No, you can't." Rose ran her tongue over her teeth and laughed a little. It sounded like an echo, accentuated by the vortex raging inside her. "But you can have a fantastic life, for me." And then it became too much, too overbearing.

Her flowing blond hair was the last thing to disintegrate into thin air, leaving behind a glowing Oxford key, a loudly weeping Time Lord, and a name that would last forever.

New Yorkers - Attention!

GET INVOLVED- Gov. Patterson is polling support for his marriage decision as opposition takes legal action!

Taeliarose at LJ says: The Governor's office is doing a sort of informal poll of residents, seeing what people's opinions are about the whole thing. All I'm asking is for you to quickly call up 1-518-474-8390, tell them "I support the Governor's position on same-sex marriage," and give them a NY zip code. Not from NY? Use 12832 or 12838. They're from Granville and Hartford respectively and both are in the rural part of the state, so it should make the support seem more wide-reaching.

RE: DOCTAH & ROSE FOREVAAAH (gak)

Remember my rant earlier? I said there were so many things wrong with what she said --- and now, a line-by-line breakdown, complete with UNEXPECTED CAPSLOCK OF RAGE, borrowed with love with Mssrs Potter and Rowling.

I would want her to stay with the Doctor forever!!

And when Rose dies by his side and the Doctor finally turns into a psychopathic wrathful God hammered by misery and woe, won't you feel silly?

However, it's doubtful. An idea I had would be that since the Doctor is immortal,

Really? Show me. He has thirteen lives. Even without that, Time Lords can die in ways that regenerations can save them from. Remember Owen's death at the end of s2 of Torchwood? Or the radiation chamber that only Jack could enter in s3 of Who? Two ways they can die without coming back right there. Research, bb, it's good stuff.

he could stay with Rose until her human life is completed. This way they could both be happy.

How would he be happy knowing Rose could die any moment and never come back? That she could be separated from him, again, like in 'Doomsday' only with no magic wand-esque move to save her. Also, see point one. Doctor + Rose + eternity of travel - Rose = CRAZY DOCTOR ROAAAR. No kidding.

I don't exactly know what The Doctor would do after she died.

See everything I've just said. You can't rip the same girl twice from his arms without some kind of fallout, usually on the genocide-of-whole-fucking-species scale.

In my opinion, anything but Rose in love with someone else or over The Doctor.

BECAUSE HUMANS CAN'T FALL IN LOVE MORE THAN ONCE. 'COS ONCE YOU GO TIME LORD, YOU NEVAHGO BACK. BECAUSE ROSE HAS NEVER LOVED ANYONE OTHER THAN THE DOCTOR AND NEVER WILL. FUCK. FUCK YOU. IF ROSE FALLS IN LOVE WITH SOMEONE OTHER THAN THE DOCTOR, AND THAT PERSON MAKES HER HAPPY, YOU SHOULD BE HAPPY. ARE YOU ROSEFEN OR ROSEHATERS? FUCK. FUCK. FUCK. IF ROSE IS HAPPY AND THE DOCTOR IS HAPPY, DOES IT MATTER IF THEY'RE TOGETHER. IT'S NICE, BUT IT'S NOT A PREREQUISITE FOR THEIR GOD DAMN HAPPINESS. IF THE DOCTOR IS HAPPY WITH DONNA, IT DOESN'T MEAN DONNA IS TRYING TO REPLACE ROSE. IF ROSE IS HAPPY WITH MICKEY, IT DOESN'T MEAN THAT MICKEY IS REPLACING THE DOCTOR. FUUUUUUUUCK.

[/rant]

I'll be happier tomorrow, I promise :3

If you think the Doctor can only love Rose and can't love anyone else after her, you fucking suck. Same with Rose - and when she comes back and we find out she's hooked up with Mickey or Jake or even alt!Milligan, I will love the wank.
FOR FUCK'S SAKE PEOPLE

I really, truly believe the Doctor takes companions because the universe gets so old without new perspective. I think that Rose reminds him that there is more than one way of looking at a situation. Martha, bless her, didn't really do that. She didn't challenge him at all. John Smith asks, in Family of Blood, what it is she actually does for him, and she can't answer. Rose is a challenge. THAT's why they need to be together! [swoon!!]

Martha? Didn't challenge the Doctor?

You mean she didn't ask questions at every turn about what's going on? Didn't force him to answer her questions about Gallifrey? Among others:

Martha: Who are you then?
Doctor: I'm the Doctor.
Martha: Me too, if I ever pass my exams. What is it then, Dr. Smith?
Doctor: Just "the Doctor."
Martha: How do you mean, "just 'the Doctor'"?
Doctor: Just "the Doctor."
Martha: What, people call you "The Doctor"?
Doctor: Yeah.
Martha: Well, I'm not. As far as I'm concerned you've got to earn that title.
Doctor: All right, better get started then.

Martha: When you say "last time", was that you and Rose?
The Doctor: [he pauses, somewhat taken aback by the question] Um.... Yeah! Yeah, it was, yeah.
Martha: [looking put off] You're taking me to the same planets that you took her?
The Doctor: [surprised, oblivious] What's wrong with that?
Martha: [disappointed, upset] Nothing! [starts to stalk away] 'Cept have you heard of the word "rebound"?

The Doctor: So, what d'you say, then? One more trip?
[Martha looks at the TARDIS, obviously torn]
Martha: No. Sorry.
The Doctor: [Surprised] What d'you mean? I thought you liked it?
Martha: I do, but I can't just keep going on like this, 'one more trip'. It's not fair.
The Doctor: What you talking about?
Martha: Well, I don't want to be just a passenger anymore. Someone you're taking along for a treat. If that's how you still see me I'd rather stay here.

Martha: But the thing is, why'd you leave him behind, Doctor?
The Doctor: [dismissively] I was busy.
Martha: Is that what happens though, seriously? You just get bored of us one day and disappear?
Captain Jack: Not if you're blonde.
Martha: [sarcastically] Oh, she was blonde! Oh, what a surprise!

[Captian Jack has just died of electrocution. Martha is attempting to give him mouth to mouth]
The Doctor: Martha, leave him.
Martha: [being pulled up] You've got to let me try...
The Doctor: Come on, come on. Just listen to me, now leave him alone.

Martha: Cause, the thing is, it's like my friend Vicky. She lived with this bloke, student housing, there were five of them all packed in, and this bloke was called Shaun. And she loved him, she did, she completely adored him, spent all day long talking about him..
The Doctor: Is this... going anywhere?
Martha: Yes!
[The Doctor nods sheepishly and settles down to listen]
Martha: Cause he never looked at her twice. I mean, he liked her... that was it. And she wasted years pining after him, years of her life. Cause while he was around, she never looked at anyone else. And I told her, I always said to her time and time again, I said "get out".
[The Doctor nods with a downcast expression]
Martha: So this is me, getting out. [She throws him her phone] Keep that. Cause I'm not having you disappear. If that rings - when that rings you better come running, got it?
The Doctor: Got it.
Martha: [fondly] I'll see you again, mister.
[They smile and she walks away.]

*goes back to mulling about other things that won't make her hit the <strike>Diet Coke</strike> bottle harder than usual*

some new Who meta

Billie Piper: She's quite sad and lonely

No, damn it. You fail. Just --- no.

"She's quite sad and lonely, but also really bolshy and - that great quality that Rose has - just so headstrong and single-minded."

See, here's the thing. Here's what I wanted to be happening in Pete's World while the Doctor and Martha were traveling together:

Rose goes through a dark bit in which she mourns the loss of the first man she truly loved with all her heart. Slowly but surely, with the help of her friends, she rebuilds and realises there's a whole new universe (with zeppelins!) waiting for her. Rose, Mickey, and Jake rebuild Torchwood in a fashion that the Doctor would be proud of, paralleling Captain Jack's own rebuilding process in his universe. She becomes head of her own Torchwood team, fighting crime and dealing with any aliens that come to Earth, no matter where they land.

I believe in Rose Marion Tyler. She would not waste years of her life pining for a man in another universe who is, for all intents and purposes, gone forever. She already had an abusive boyfriend in canon who, when the trouble started, she dropped immediately. She's the daughter of hardcore mum Jackie and invetor badass Pete; in other words, Rose isn't going to take shit from anyone, and she's not gonna wallow in self-pity.

Maybe for a bit, she'll be sad, but she'll get over it. She dealt with leaving her family behind on Earth, on Nine regenerating into Ten, on watching her very world burn before her eyes. She gets over Ten. She might even consider opening a rift to go back, but she won't go through with it. It's too shallow, too silly, and too dangerous. If Rose finds a way, it'll be for a good damn purpose, long after she's gotten over her fixation on the Doctor. Like, say, an oncoming Dalek invasion.

To suggest that she'd still be down in the dumps, even slightly? Good lord, Rusty, don't let Billie act as Rose in that fashion! That's not the blond shop girl I fell in love with in 2005! That's your damn wet dream pushed roughly into canon! Now, if she was sad because something big had happened in her own world, like, dunno, DALEKS destroying Torchwood and she is one of the few capable of stopping them from taking over her old world, then I'd be okay. But I have a feeling it may not be. And that's gonna freaking suck.

If Rose comes back all "I MISSED YOU DOCTAH DO YA STILL LOOOOOOOOOOVE ME", things will be violently thrown at my computer screen. 'Cos that shit ain't funny, natch.

Why I'm hopeful: this bit that came before it. "She has changed. She's hardened. She's been through a lot in her parallel world. I think she's been through emotional turmoil."

In short, Rose has been growing up. She's transformed into something new, something that can fight in the name of what the Doctor stood for, not because she's drippily in love with him. Plus, she looked so damn cool with that gun. I know, I know, the Doctor is greatly anti-gun. Whatevs.

In conclusion: Rose was totes saying Donna's name, not the Doctor's. No, really, look at an animated icon of the clip. It's "DO-NNA!" not "DOC-TAH!" I can tell, I can lip read a teeny bit. Besides, Donna is supposed to be the only one on our side of the universe who can save the day. Wouldn't it make sense for Rose to be calling her name? Other than "DO-NNA, YOU LOOKED FAB IN THAT DRESS IN POMPEII ♥". Oh, wait, that was me :3
