Seed offer: Garlic chives [12 Oct 2009|07:34pm]
Once again I have a bunch of garlic chives seeds that could use new homes. Garlic chives, to me, taste milder than regular chives and make a good substitute for green onions in recipes. They're pretty much grow anywhere plants: outside, inside, in pots or whatever. They get largish, pretty white flowers in the late summer. Send me a pm or shoot me an email with your mailing address (octopus.gallery at gmail) if you'd like a package of them.

Stuffs for sale [20 Jul 2009|05:09pm]
I listed a whole bunch of early 80's jewelry and other stuff I had laying about on Etsy last night and today. Also finally put up a shop banner for that one. Tell me what you think?

I'm also offering a deal where if you put a link to the shop on your lj or book of faces or whatever, I'll give you free shipping. Please, get this stuff out of my office!

JFC, I am so glad I don't have a Kindle [17 Jul 2009|04:27pm]
"This morning, hundreds of Amazon Kindle owners awoke to discover that books by a certain famous author had mysteriously disappeared from their e-book readers. These were books that they had bought and paid for—thought they owned."

That's right, Amazon went and deleted 1984 and Animal Farm from purchasers' accounts and then from their hardware. As my friend Nadia Lee put it, "Amazon deleting books from your Kindle WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION is outright theft, defnitly creepy, and utterly WRONG."

Cichlid sexydance success! [27 Jun 2009|08:49pm]
This evening, I checked the piece of slate I put in the Battlestar for the keyhole pair and found a sizeable batch of eggs being guarded by the female! \o/ This makes me happy. I thought about pulling the slate to raise the eggs out of the community tank, but cichlids make good and very defensive parents and right now they're going to be better at picking out unfertilized eggs and the like than I am. I might pull them when they get to wiggler stage if there looks to be a lot of predation going on, but for now I'm going to leave them. Yay babby fish!

This was definitely a welcome development after I found my red rainbowfish stuffed in a flowerpot in the back of the tank being chewed on by one of the ancistris. :((((( No idea how he got in the flowerpot either. Very, very weird.

Backyard paths 02

New stone path

Picked up a bunch of stone from the garden center today for about $40 and got the path done! I actually need a little bit more stone, but it's just bits and pieces. The pieces need to settle into the clay a bit and then I'm going to plant steppable plants around them. \o/

Whatever, it's not like I had anything pressing to do [11 Jun 2009|08:50pm]
Came home today to discover that some of my very first home-grown blueberries were ripe! So I spent a ridiculous amount of time taking ~*~artistic~*~ pictures of them before nomming them down.

They were very delicious.

In other news [01 Jun 2009|01:20pm]
Jason and I went fishing on this beautiful day. Had no luck in the first stream we stopped at, but we did end up with some really great rocks for the aquariums. I had used up a bunch around the bog so this was a good thing.

Next creek we stopped at was much more successful. I caught a number of blacknosed dace, including a couple of males in breeding colors. Beautiful! I also managed to snag what I think is a spotfin shinner. Then, I was walking to check one last hole before we left and stepped on a rock that I thought I had stepped on before and it was fine. Yeah, not so much. Sucker rolled right out from under me and down I went. Tore up my knee and have a nice cut with a bruise on my foot. I only lost one fish out of my bucket though. Win! \o/ I'd show you pictures of the fish and the stream, but the side I fell in on was also the side that my camera was in the pocket of and now I can't turn it on until it dries out. So pictures later. Which is too bad because I got some awesome spider pictures. Mwah ha ha ha!

Some of the potted plants

Some of my potted plants on the deck. I've got my kitchen herbs, my mini-bog, the random reseeding flowers from the window box that fell into the green pot and a thus unplanted pot.

These are good quality posters, although check the reproduction quality on larger sizes. I have been very happy with the stuff I've bought and if you spring for framing, I can also tell you that that's good quality as well.

People are douches. [22 May 2009|10:52am]
Nothing like going outside and finding that someone's stepped in the bog and snapped of one of my nicest new pitchers. It was probably the meter reader because the trail of soaked peat moss led that way. I hope his foot is soaked for the rest of the day. Hopefully that will teach you not to step in people's flowerbeds, you ant-penised goatroper with the curtesy of a little leg humping dog.
