So, where did she/it go?

Fan History started getting a lot of traffic today for, guess what? Russet Noon. After a few months of relative quiet from Lady Sybilla et. al., something was obviously up. So, at the urging of Fan History's founder, I went looking to find out what.

First thing I did was check the russet-noon.com website. I expected to find some new screed about how wonderful her <strike>copyright infringment</strike> book is and how she's almost finished with her semi-autobiographical <strike>biased piece of crap</strike> book on the internet adventures surrounding her <strike>copyright infringment</strike> novel.

But lo and behold! I get nothing.

No garish layout, no pictures of Jacob--nothing but a "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". So, thought I, that's what has people heading over to Fan History. They want to find out what's going on.

So, I go off to check out Russet Noon's MySpace page. Never been there before and don't have an account, so I wasn't sure I could get in.
I didn't need an account after all. The page that came up said, "Invalid Friend ID. This user has either cancelled their membership, or their account has been deleted."

Oooh! Curiouser and curiouser!

I took myself to Chilling Effects, to see if there was any sort of DMCA smackdown involved with Russet Noon. No joy there. Then I went to Whois, to see if the domain was still in force. Dang! It was, until sometime in 2010.

Then I clicked on one of the links in the russet-noon.com article, one that took me to AboutUs. This had no really interesting information for me, but I noticed a little link on the side for "DomainTools.com". I figured, what the heck, and clicked on it. A second browser window came up and I clicked on each of the tabs presented. The final tab was Server Status, and here I found something startling. The server's status came back as "Registered And No Website".

Whoa. The Russet Noon site was gone.

Now, I have no real idea as to why that site was removed or why the MySpace page is also gone. I can speculate, but that's about it. One theory is that Stephenie Meyer's lawyers finally decided enough was enough, and during a quiet lull when they thought people wouldn't notice, served up a Cease and Desist and/or DMCA takedown orders. Why did they wait? Well, if they'd done anything sooner, when everyone was watching, there would have been a hue and cry (led by Lady Sybilla herself), and a general stirring of the pot, which would only play into Sybilla's hands.

Another theory is that Sybilla wasn't getting the attention she craved. Traffic to her site was falling off, there were no more juicy tidbits about her in cyberspace. No one was paying attention to her, and she thought deleting her pages would bring her fans out of the woodwork, crying for her presence. (At which point, I must admit, this is probably, in a small way, falling in with that reasoning--but I am a nobody, and this journal is only a tiny crevice in the huge world of blogs.)

My final theory is that she just got tired of it all. Tired of trying to write Russet Noon. Tired of people pointing and laughing, then ignoring her. TIred of being banned at various places. Without anyone to fawn over her, the thrill was gone, and she decided to chuck it. Lesson learned, experience gained.

Which of these is true? Are there any other theories? I don't know. But should anything else come to light, you can find it on the pages of Fan History.

So, Lady Sybilla accused me of bias in her now deleted Twitter. I don't have much (if any) wank to my name, and some have called me a "class act" in the past. IF I am biased one way or the other, it's usually based on how someone acts towards me/my friends/my family, etc.

Lady Sybilla's crazy actions have EARNED my bias.

I'm putting her on notice that, not only will I not "refrain" from editing the articles about her and her imaginary, illegal piece of second-rate fanfic, I will edit said articles boldly--and if she thinks I'm biased now, she ain't seen nothing yet.

Easing back into fandom

I've had a hard time recently getting things done in my fandom. I have three WIPs languishing on fanfic.net, and another three or four ideas rattling around in my brain and on my hard drive. I have a fandom specific website that needs some more coded pages. I have tons of screencaps to crop and photoshop, not to mention two movies and a number of episodes still to watch and cap. I have synopses to write. I have a roleplay that's been sitting semi-idle (and players who have been giving me the pips!). I have articles to write at Fan History about fandom sites I used to moderate.

You get the picture? I'm barely keeping up.

I may have to make some hard decisions pretty soon. There are things that can't be dropped--like laundry, dishes, taking care of the house, etc. But I might be able to drop some other things: facebook comes to mind.

I'll see what happens. Tonight I finished a chapter of my longest WIP, and started the next one. I've got an RP post percolating in my head, and one of the characters from my 2007 NaNo novel is hollering at me to be written. Maybe I'll be able to get back into it.

Maybe.
