The big news? D. and I are engaged. We're planning to get married next August -- planning to the extent that we're working on renting a location. Gleep. Also, isn't it pretty: ? That said, HELP! I think I'm obsessed.

I've been meaning to update for an age. This: just convince me to do it...I don't want it to die :DSo...I managed to get things sorted -- I'm living in NYC (Greenwich Village ftw!) and going to Rutgers for my MS degree. I'm a bit scared of that, since it'll be different from anything I've done before, but I'm excited too. Classes start Tuesday. (*wibble*) I got the situation with my guild sorted -- ie, I left (D. came with me, hurrah) The new guild is really a splinter from the old one, with most of the people I like. Unfortunately, I'm pretty hardcore about wanting people to be good at their class. It's not like WoW is exactly a hard game, after all. And, well, we have a lot of nubs who don't seem to know that there's any room for improvement. I'd never tell someone to re-roll because their class is gimp, or tell a hybrid to re-spec (well, I'd tell an arms War w/ enough hit to go Fury, but that's it), but I'll damn well tell people they left out the 5% damage talent in Frost and they might want to fix that. And Pheii and Aedyl really look down on that -- there's a bit of Cult of Nice going on, which is a pity, because I really like Pheii. So I hate being in a ZA with the pally healer who sucks...and who doesn't learn *sigh* It's a bad thing when D. is doing 50% of the healing on a boss -- and there are 3 healers. Seriously, D. did 50%, Razlo did 30, and the pally did 20. That's seriously gimp. Plus, the hunter with the blue weapon is killing the epic'ed out mages. NOT GOOD. And reacting strongly (okay, yelling) because someone broke Flame Wreath is frowned upon. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens tonight. I'll be missing a raid for the first time (I'm visiting parents right now) and I don't think it'll be pretty without either me or D., who's with me. The two of us are the best geared people in the guild, and we know our class...we can carry a lot of idiocy, since together, we can keep me up when by all rights there should be doom afoot. Missing us, if they want ZA, they'll have to pug a tank, make Razlo do it, or use someone without the gear...and missing the best healer, that'll hurt. Maybe it'll get things through to them. |

From Clinton Pledges to Fight On Despite Split Primary Result - New York Times: "Jonathan Mantz, the campaign’s finance director, said Wednesday afternoon that money has been coming in over the Internet at a “pretty rapid clip,” but he did not have specific figures available." Apparently even presidential campaigns are willing to resort to "the lurkers support us in e-mail." |

Pardon me, I'm bouncing with glee since I just hit exalted with the Mag'har and am now the proud possessor of the Tan Riding Talbuk -- which looks astonishingly like the riding deer in Princess Mononoke -- and a Mag'har tabard. I'm only level 67, so I'm pretty proud of myself and while I spent most of this past level farming, I also found time to complete the Nessingwary chain and pick up Hemet's Elekk Gun. When I hit 70, the Mag'har have a couple decent blues waiting for me, too, and this farming session has put me on track to hit 70 with tons of quests to spare, so I'll have plenty of cash. Even better, I had over 1,000 gold before I blew about 60 on the Talbuk, so I'm pretty sure I'll have enough for a flying mount the instant I hit 70. Mostly, though, I'm just gleeful because I don't have to kill those fucking ogres ever again. I must have killed several thousand, and I have the cloth to show for it. I'll be glad to get back to questing, but first I need to hunt down some warp stalkers and spore bats, because I'm almost out of my buff foods of choice (+20 agi for me and +20 stam for the pet). (Interesting fact: I saw a banner for the strike on one of the bdsm coms I belong to. The man who posted it mentioned that he was in fandom when I commented, but it was still cool to see it spread beyond that.) |

This is just the end, it really is. Have a look at what the Vice President in charge of blogging at SUP, Livejournal, Inc.'s parent company, has to say about the reaction of users to some very legitimate issues that have come up in recent weeks: http://darkrosetiger.livejournal.com/37 For the issues, look here about filtering interests -- including depression, pain, and faeries -- off of the "Most popular interests" page: http://stewardess.insanejournal.com/228 There have been claims that this was "a mistake," but the change in code has to have been deliberate. And here for the removal of basic accounts: http://community.livejournal.com/no_lj_ It's just too much at this point. I can't stick with any service that pulls this shit. I know I already stopped posting, but I still use the site pretty heavily, so hello rss feeds for all the journals I follow. I'll keep the journal, but delete all the entries and interests, just so I can see flocked material. |

| I have had inordinate difficulty avoiding the use of the term "sexual healing" in my discussion of "The Witch of the Westmoreland." It's there just begging to be written, but I know better than to put that in the final paper for my senior seminar. But, but...it wants out, dammit. | ||

| I want Elizabeth Weir/Ronon Dex fic so bad. Hell, if it weren't finals and comps I might even consider writing it -- I really want sub!Ronon, because I think that pairing would be particularly pretty that way -- but given the roiling mess that is the SGA fandom, I don't trust myself to write it in a way that wouldn't produce ickiness (assuming anyone read it). *sigh* Also, Brisco/Bowler has to come first because otherwise D. will sulk. | ||

So, I was nodding right along with this post until I got to the bit where the first thing she does badly from a feminist perspective is write "dominate" men. At which point it was simply impossible to take her seriously, because not only is this the same crap that causes feminists to attack submissive women for letting the side down, but also her men are dominate? Really? When one associates that particular spelling mistake with n00bs, suddenly one re-evaluates her whole argument from the perspective that she must be an idiot. It makes it terribly difficult to take anything she says seriously, which is a pity because maybe there was some truth to it somewhere that I'm now missing. In better news, my hunter leveled to 63 today, and my warrior hit 362 blacksmithing courtesy of 4 1/2 hours of farming metal and a 50 gold purchase of eternium. The next 13 levels are going to be quite the slog. |

I'm getting really tired of seeing all these posts made by people who clearly just "have a sense" of the prevailing legal climate, without ever really reading the legal scholarship associated with the issue of copyright infringement, who seem not to have read the law, or just read the parts of it they think are important, relying on the plain meaning of words, rather than looking at the definitions in the statute, and who seem utterly unacquainted with the relevant case law (contrary to popular opinion, it exists). Here's my take on the matter after reading everything and running the information by my boyfriend, who is in law school (he's not a lawyer, obviously, and hasn't had any IP classes, but at least he knows something about interpreting legal writing): ( 1) Fanfiction, as a broad category... ) |

So every time I run across the phenomenon of gender supremacists, I tun back to something Daniel (my SO) says when I boggle at them: they're people who can't accept that they're not 100% normal and so they have to generalize it to the entire world. People suck, seriously. Also, the Youtube responses to the K/S Closer vid are fascinating. I look at it from within fandom and see a brilliant constructed reality vid, a lot of other people either miss the point of the vid entirely or think it's a joke. I hadn't realized my interpretive frame was so skewed. Granted these are random internet fucktards, but still. |

| So a new theory says eruptions contributed to the death of the dinosaurs. Fascinating. However, the article that I read totally ignores all the ramifications of a meteor impact other than the dust cloud, so I'm dubious. In fact, let's look at it this way: a giant meteor hits the earth, the shockwave travels around the Earth (I think, regardless, it goes a good long way). There are tsunamis. Wouldn't that kind of impact cause enough seismic disruption that it might trigger mega eupions on the other side of the globe? Why can't these eruptions be a result of an already devastating impact, rather than a (highly improbable) second apocalyptic disaster in an improbably narrow time period? | ||

This is what happens when you let my boyfriend play with the maggiefic mad libs. ( A Debt That Can Never Be Repaid ) ...yeah. In other news, ataniell93 is an idiot, but that's not exactly going to surprise anyone. Have I mentioned how much I hate the cult of nice? Apparently, now it's a hostile act to link to something if that link induces someone on your friends list to troll. Or even if you don't consider that it might cause someone to do so. Seriously, that's like the stupidest thing I've ever heard in my life. There's very little information out there so sensitive that I should avoid giving it out for fear of the consequences, and links to public posts sure as hell aren't in that category. |
