ZOMG THE KLU KLUX KLAN DOESN'T CARE ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE

[info]laryna6, who has a history of arguing canon of games she does not play—because games are mindless entertainment beneath her intellectual level—takes offence at calling Heat from Digital Devil Saga "O'Brian" because

"Having a violent tactless redhead be of Irish descent, at minimum, is... the culmination of all the complete bs prejudices."

Unfortunately for her, Heat O'Brian is not a redhead. And yes, it is his canon name, not fanon, as [info]laryna6 presumed because she has not played the game (but don't worry! She's researching it!). But it doesn't matter! She is Irish (and an Aspie, don't you dare forget it) and by GOD she is offended! After all, the Klu Klux Klan was founded to keep her down!

It's just a little irritating to me, of course if your ancestors had to be put onto a ship to America as little kids traveling alone with no money or anything because it was the only thing his parents could do to save him from starvation because the English plantation lords refused to give any of the tons of food Ireland was exporting to during a famine to their sharecroppers/slave labor, and not to mention had the Klu Klux Klan founded to grind them into the dirt, they didn't care about black people[...]

and Atlus continues that fine tradition by naming a random character O'Brian! Except the tactless redhead laryna6 is referring to is not actually O'Brian but the digital avatar of the god Agni, as [info]ariseishirou points out.

All in all, [info]laryna6 proves once again she'll make up an "argument" about games she did not play, based on distorted, wrong and/or inexistent information, pull out the assburgers card to defend herself (the race card being new), and declare herself winnar in her journal under flock.

Or maybe she'll call people made up shit again.

I like my report better :(

It all begins in the dean_sam community when [info]ckll, the maintainer, posts that she received an email from TPTB.

With a lot of pride and squee and happiness, i just got an e-mail from Kripke's office which he seems aware for OUR community here and the mail said '... have been tasked with making contact with some of the more influential members of our fanbase'.
GUYS, I'M PROUD FOR US HERE AND I THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART because we showed our true high level as fans.

At first, there is much patting on the back and squees, but by page 3, the plot thickens!

[info]marishna: Did the letter elaborate on how they decided the influential people in fandom were? What do they intend to do with this new channel of communication with fandom? If they were starting some sort of ad campaign I would have thought they'd go to TWoP or somewhere bigger. Somewhere less embroiled in drama all the time. Who exactly from the show contacted you? You could give out the title of the person, perhaps? Or post the whole letter with the names redacted?

[info]ckll is very ticked that someone dares doubt her email. At first she sounds reasonable enough, but as [info]vanee and [info]shannenb try to explain [info]marishna's question and the suspicion that begins to appear, [info]ckll quickly loses it, accusing everyone doubting her of being negative, of attacking her personally and keeps promising that they'll see a proof her email is real "very soon". She points out one of her attacker as [info]purplephoenix03, who makes a rather tl;dr post about her reasons for not thinking the email is real:

Basically? I doubt it's authenticity. My reasoning is many-fold: this comm and this person is nowhere near to being an influential person in fandom. I'm sorry, my dear, but this is true. Fandom does not hang off your every word and does not ask 'how high?' when you say 'jump'. Also, let's be honest about some of the major content of the comm (besides the fic and icon entres of course). We're talking copyright infringment and illegal distribution of media stuffs (I'm keeping it vague). I'm not saying I don't do this too, but I'm looking at it from the management's view: why would they encourage a comm which solicites such behaviour? If anything, I'd expect a Cease and Desist letter. I've known websites and LJs in my history in fandom who've recieved such letters, it's not uncommon at all.

The post is sane enough, but there is as much smug backpatting in the comments as in the community post, but why crunchy being a BNF is HARD! hypocrisy on the side.

And don't forget, SPN fandom, Kripke loves teh buttsechs.

Harry Potter Book 7 predictions. Just what the doctor recommends for the inner cynic in all of us.

I know, late as Hell. But I figure hey, while I got this journal, might as well use it to track the crap I post on JF.
