I've decided that, for sanity's sake, I must view Datalounge as a sort of anti-Void.
Both Datalounge and Void:
a) are fan fiction that's taken over the fandom
b) inspire a lot of copycat stories
c) diverge wildly from canon
d) have no end in sight
e) are controversial and have been the cause of much wank
f) have MsAllegro sticking her nose in
Datalounge is the anti-Void because:
a) Void is well-written and fun and coherent
b) Nobody believes Void is real
c) Void inspires slashy goodness, where Datalounge destroys it

You know what sucks the most about Shawna and her conspiracy theories? Part of the fun in any slash fandom is theorizing about who fell in love with/fucked who, when, where, etc, and it's like you're not allowed to do that in Lotrips because the crazies have given it such a stigma. I want to be able to relax and say to someone, oh yes, I bet Elijah and Dom got together at point X, and they say no, it was point Y. It's no different than saying Sam and Frodo obviously got together in Rivendell, or clearly it was pre-quest, or no, not until the boat scene.
Alas, she took the fun away.

I'm tempted to make a wankily meta poll in my LJ about what people are reading it for (e.g. RL, particular fandoms, friendspage culture). However, I already feel like I need to shut up over there, so I will restrain my meta urges.

Just reading FW, and oh look, StormFreak is back. Shame I can't ban her ass like last time, but such is the life of a non-maintainer.
I, for one, would like to get rid of the trolls and FW meta long enough for *other* wanks to get the spotlight.

Sometimes the transitory nature of life bothers me. Nothing is permanent, but when I was younger everything was new enough so that I didn't really notice. Now I'll look at a town that's flourishing and think: in twenty years, it will be turning into a slum again. I look at the web and see how sites just evaporate, even with archive.org around. Digital media breaks down, paper decays and burns, entropy is utterly unavoidable. It makes me want to grab everything and preserve it somehow. If I could, I would have an endless, destruction-proof archive.
There's pleasure in change, certainly, but if you really stop and think about it, the loss is far greater. Reality needs an infinite cache.

Have abandoned Blurty and CrazyLife blogs for a JournalFen account. I'm following the fandom_wank herd like everybody else, but I'm not really involved with the community at the moment, as RL is far more pressing.
May use this for the same thing as the other blogs, which is random stuff I don't want to put in my LJ for whatever reason, or when LJ goes down as it tends to do.
