This story is rated NC-17 and takes place in a slightly altered version of the current DC Comics universe. Changes will be apparent to those who know them, and irrelevant to those who don't. This work would not be possible without the assistance and encouragement of ( Scions )

Hi, everybody!! That poll I put up - over fifty volunteers. You guys are incredible. (I almost used a cuss word right there, but saved it just in time.) I am totally over the moon. The best part is the name. Y'all ready? The No Stairway Anthology - I love the name. I ain't even gonna front. :) The first post in that community is our guidelines and overview, so please give those a read if you're interested. As I said before, things have changed a lot since we started talking. Even now they're pretty rough draft - it's only been two days - but we've got a pretty good idea of how things are going to go. If you have any questions, As a side note, I'm aware that there are folks who maybe aren't the biggest fans of this idea, and that's a shame. But hopefully the guidelines will clear things up for them, because I'm definitely seeing a lot of misconceptions on those posts. In fact, why don't I go ahead and touch on some of the highlights? As I see it, the benefits are twofold; for readers and for writers. Each issue of the Anthology will hold a number of stories that have been screened for basic typos and grammar, and then passed by at least three editors. Those editors look for originality, innovation, use of language and pacing, anything that'd make a story grip a reader's attention. They look for stories that challenge and move us, stories that twist us up; their goal is to fill the Anthology, not pare it down. We'd like to showcase as many stories as possible. Each story is archived at a website - those of you who boycott LJ can still play - and a reader's guaranteed to be able to browse these stories whenever they want, in a format that's readable and clear. The administrators and editorial oversight boards make sure that each issue has a range of stories, something to appeal to any taste. And for the writers, first and foremost is that each story is assessed purely on its merits - all identifying information is stripped away before the editors even see it. Doesn't matter what your name is, you've got the same shot as anybody else. If your story is published to the Anthology, that'll mean exposure for not just your single story but all your works, because there's a link to your LJ or your IJ or your website, whatever you want. The last benefit for writers is something we sort of snuck under the radar. Every single author who sends in a story has the option of recieving comments from the editors. Doesn't matter if you get published or not. Three objective editors will tell you what they think is good about what you wrote, and where you might be able to improve. It's not a line edit or a beta process - we have day jobs to think of! - but it's a quick summary that we hope will be helpful. You don't have to take it, of course, but I sure plan to. People with editing guidelines are going to look at my stuff and give me their honest opinion. I know nobody's going to tell me what I want to hear, and I also know nobody's going to be mean or catty about it. Dude. Awesome. So that's us! Have a look over those preliminary guidelines, ask any questions you want. When things are finalized and ready to go, we'll have a big going-live party and you're all invited. |

The Grinch had been caught by this little Who daughter Who'd got out of bed for a cup of cold water. She stared at the Grinch and said, "Santy Claus, why?" "Why are you taking our Christmas tree? Why?" But, you know, that old Grinch was so smart and so slick ( He thought up a lie, and he thought it up quick! ) |

this one friend of mine likes almost no kind of music but country - new country/pop, not the old stuff. sometimes, when we would drive around and i just couldn't take it anymore, i would demand that we listen to ANYTHING ELSE, so she would pop in one of the two other CDs she owned: Big Shiny Tunes #, or the coyote ugly soundtrack. i was astonished to discover, on first listening, that some of the tracks belonging to leanne rimes didn't actually suck as hard as i thought they would. they were gay and dancey, you know the kind, just a dumb song you kind of like. ( today, i watched the movie. ) FRAIGH, SO ANGRY. anyway, god. cee did this meme (and came up with MORE KONO, people; run, don't walk) and i like it, so i'm stealing it. Give me one of my own stories, and a timestamp sometime in the future after the end of the story, or sometime in the past before the story started, and I'll write you at least a hundred words of what happened then, whether it's five minutes before the story started or ten years in the future, unless it's that one single story i wrote that's all porn all the time, b/c there's there's that exactly one of you that always asks for that one but it's just more porn, so nothing doing, pick something else. |

there are bad people in fandom. they wank, they're whiny, they're unbelievably narcissistic, and their entitlement issues could power minnesota. everybody knows who they are, everybody complains about how fucking miserable fandom is because of them, and yet everybody keeps reading them. wanna know why? it's because they're loud. the vast majority of this corner of fandom are very shy people - we are, overwhelmingly, smart girls with social issues. we fall in line, it's what we do. we like to agree with people, support them and make them feel good about themselves, because that's how women are trained to behave. even those of us who like to think of ourselves as argumentative can see a post on ye olde flist about what a wretched day the poster just had, and our first instinct is often to pop into comments with picsmap and hearts and hugs. it's part of what makes fandom such a great place, why we love it here: we're so often nice to each other. unfortunately, the collary to this is that many of us would rather cut off our own arms than disagree with somebody, and if we do disagree, it tends to be grounds for immediate rage/hatred/war/tears/self-recrimination and the end result is a certain select few people standing in the town square, wearing clown costumes and fervently jerking off onto a copy of the season 2 DVDs (aka: the "cool" kids). those left standing around in horrified silence are trying so hard to be polite and fit in that they won't even say, hey, WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING for fear that, if they speak up, they shall be drummed out of fandomtown forevers. i wish i could tell you all that it was a lie, that you would be able to find happiness in fandom even if you didn't have those folks on your flist. but the sad truth is if you need me to tell you that, you're probably just gonna fall in with the next loud asshole with carpal tunnel that you stumble across. i might even be one of them. if you just go ahead and treat everybody you meet like they might be a seekrit pod person until you get to know them, your fandom experience will probably improve markedly. lj is such a fishbowl. *watches* |

you guys, i realize this makes me, like, a GIANT GIRL, but with the reports from creationcon pouring in including transcripts and fan encouters and VIDEO, i just. i haven't been this swamped with love in a very long time. this, this right here is my fandom. y'know, the show comes out every week and we see sam and dean, and that's awesome, don't get me wrong, but it just isn't the same as jensen gatecrashing jared's Q&A wearing a sam winchester t-shirt, y'know? it isn't the same as knowing that they got those green beret coins, that they signed their names on the wall at a deep dish pizza joint in chicago, that they slapfight on airplanes when they get punchy. i may have watched the part of the breakfast panel where jared puts on an asshole jock voice and pretends not to know what nair is approximately eighteen hundred times now. they way they ARE, you guys, just. i'm a little verklempt. |
