The HORRIBLE AWFUL post nasal drip has let up, I feel less enervated and more congested, and now I think I'll be pretty much better by tomorrow or the day after (just in time for work, yayyyy). Of course, even after I'm better, I'm probably in for a week or so of my throat passive-aggressively clinging to lingering symptoms as it heals. I think I was supposed to do stuff this weekend, instead of holing up with blankets, eating chicken soup and leftover pizza (I must have consumed about two days' worth of calories today, thanks), and halfheartedly playing computer games. And yesterday started so great. I had a steak and cheese, I got my car back (it was $400, that WASN'T great), I had lunch with my mom, and then WHAM POW My body is a traitor, a dirty rotten back-stabbing traitooooorrrr *sneeze* I want a refund. |

6:19a | SDCC Roommates needed As per usual I have a room with two queen sized beds for SDCC at the Holiday Inn Express downtown. I'll be there for the full four nights. There is a mini fridge in the room as well as a TV and free wireless internet, as well as free hot breakfast every morning, a pool, and a shuttle to the con right around the corner. Free shuttle from the airport as well. I'm will to put up to 5- 6 people in the room if all other parties are fine with it (I will be bringing a air mattress again) but at the moment I'm shooting for 4. Girls only, and over 18 only. Is anyone else interested? With 4 people in the room would be 190 dollars a person. I wouldn't expect any money until the con itself. If you are interested please let me know. :) |

11:45a | Oh, that's what I need. A complete collection of Star Trek: The Next Generation. I guess the only thing is that I'm not actually crazy about DVDs. DVD menus vary wildly in terms of usability and prettiness and extra features, and sometimes they have unskippable commercials and crap, and only a couple episodes fit on one disk. I'm used to all my episodes being easily watchable and swappable on my PC >___> I know a lot of people like the new Star Trek movie, with its Zachary Quinto and that other dude and the boobies and the iPod Enterprise, but I just... bleh. Sure, the movies aren't always about what the TV shows were about (exploring space! making contact with aliens!), but they also weren't so slick and crass. ...I really hated boobiecaptain!Kirk. Him and his stupid eyebrows. GAHHHH Maybe my StarTrekpinions just differ a little from the norm. I liked Voyager overall (why does it get so much hate?), I liked the first movie and its scenery porn shots, I liked Voyage Home (to all those who whined that it had an environmentalist message and it was all about saving the whales, FUCK YOU I like whales and I liked the movie and SAN FRANCISCO -- I was BORN there), I liked but wasn't totally zomg blown away by Wrath of Khan. Anyway, TNG is my favorite series and it occurs to me that I have never had a Starfleet uniform. WHAT |

"Vatican ends "wall of silence" over child abuse scandal". Some of the attitudes expressed in this article, I must laugh at simply because the other option is banging my head against a wall. "In one case, the priest defended himself on the grounds that he sincerely believed it was not sinful for him to have sexual relations - provided it was not with a woman." Because, you know, women are totes the root of all evil and it's so much better and holier to molest defenseless children. I can understand this priest's confusion though, considering what sort of teachings and attitudes many Christian churches, Roman Catholic and otherwise, have regarding women in general. "He also gave numbers: during the past decade the Holy Office received details of 3,000 Catholic priests reported by their Bishops to Rome for sexual misconduct or, even worse, crimes. Sixty per cent of these cases involved homosexual acts, 30% related to heterosexual behaviour and only 10% - or 300 priests - were, he said, 'actual cases of paedophilia.'" The 60% vs 30% figure is particularly hilarious considering the R.C. Church's wholesale public condemnation of homosexuals. The fact that they chose, for decades, to protect child molesters and abusers (plenty of non-sexual abuse in Catholic schools went on as well apparently), frankly... well they get no sympathy from me in this ongoing scandal. Classic case of real sin (as opposed to the made-up kind like simply being born gay) coming home to roost. In short: the American Hospital Association is holding a leadership summit in San Diego. The same weekend as Comic-Con. Two blocks from the convention center. In a hotel that, up until yesterday, was on SDCC's official list of con hotels. Guests include Al Gore, Newt Gingrich, DeeDee Myers, Ken Burns and Freakonomics author Steven D. Levitt. (And speaking of SDCC hotels, is anyone else pacing back and forth, waiting for their confirmation email? Last year's booking sucked, but at least I knew by 10am. Submitted my list by 9:05, still haven't heard anything.) |
