| | Curious like the Monkey | ] | Where are all these "slash=all non-canon pairings" people coming from? When I first saw them popping up in wanks I thought they were just new people who were confused. But I've seen a lot of them lately and I'm starting to think they all got their definition from the same place. Is there a fandom out there where they use slash in that context?
ETA: GIP! Watched Logan's Run last night. Um, did it make sense in the seventies? |

Well, technically, slash refers to all pairings, since you usually write them with a slash between the parties' names. It's been recently that slash means TEH GAY.
If we'd used colons, then we'd call ships "colons."

Yeah, but the slash thing started with Kirk/Spock writers, hense they were slashers. Het writers just picked it up later.
I think the "slash = all non-canon ships" is fairly new, too.
And yeah, Logan's Run made sense in the 70s. If you can find a copy, you might want to try reading the book by William Nolan.

Ooo, thanks, didn't know it was originally a book. I'm definitely going to check that out.
It didn't make sense in the 70s, either, but it was pretty much all we had.
Perversely, it's one of those movies that, if I happen into it on TV, I have to watch all the way to the end. I think it's the colors or something.
I get the feeling that it would have made more sense if I had taken a great deal of drugs before hand.
It might have seemed shorter, at least.
At our theater, they gave out little red decals to put in the palm of your hand. Forgetting, of course, that the palm is one of the oiliest, foldiest bits on the body and not an ideal environment for water-activated decals.
They didn't give us any crappy tie-in materials at the video store. Bastards.
They will rue the day they began renting out non-sensical post-apocalyptic science fiction movies without including free promotional materials!!!!! | |
