So apparently Aja wrote an opinion piece about why fandom shouldn't hide anymore.

How high is the wank potential? No clue, since I don't want to read it.

So after seeing the first 5 episodes of Grimm, season 1, I vaguely remembered a fanfic writer I subscribed to on AO3 had been writing Grimm fanfic, and promptly looked it up. Mind, the writing isn't exactly stellar, but I usually like the ideas/story concepts more than the execution, so I manage.

Then I wandered over to the Grimm Kink meme on DW, and in the 3rd prompt post I run smack dab into wank over this particular writer's fanon regarding Captain Renard. Basically, an anonymouse posted a prompt that referred to this writer's fanon like it was canon. When another anonymouse justifiably asks what the heck is a _____?, another poster (signed in) said it was a fanon concept "we the fans made up" (or something along those lines), and various other commentors, anon and otherwise, took offense. I didn't bother going through the entire thread, because it got hellishly long and I was on my lunch break at the time. XD

Anyone think it's work worth posting to FW? For the morbidly curious, I spent around 20 min looking for the thread, which wasn't where I thought it was. ^_^a

I'm very tempted to make a really sarcastic comment to this post, but since I lurk most of the time I'm holding back. For now.

"When they finally come to destroy the earth (they'll have to go through you first)" by AlchemyAlice is almost everything I wanted in a story where Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne knew each other from childhood. I say almost because at 5+k words, it's too damned short. I WANT MOAR. XD

Wow, someone's a bit defensive over flight times from Chicago to London. Is it really hard to comprehend different airlines have different flight patterns/routes?

What's more hilarious is that on the (two?) trips I've taken, it's been LA to London non-stop, and going there is shorter than coming back. Something like around 11 hrs going, and 13 hrs returning. The person who keeps saying 7-9 hours from Manchester to Chicago doesn't seem to be aware of that.

Anyone else have the urge to make some popcorn when this got announced?

One of my favorite fanfic writers is Vathara. Going by her ff.net page, she's completed 88 stories in a heck of a lot of fandoms, some of which include SG-1, Bleach, Ruroni Kenshin, Airwolf, Buffy, Gargoyles, The Real Ghostbusters, X-Men: Evolution, Gundam Wing, The Sentinel, and a lot of others I don't remember right now, and the majority of her fic are crossovers. That gets pretty interesting at times. XD The main reason she's a favorite is because I can understand and enjoy her fic without knowing the fandom(s) involved. It might make things easier if I did know the fandom(s), but I honestly don't think it's required. (Of course, this might be part of the reason why I don't understand the wank going on, but one thing at a time. ;))

The thing is, I do think it's wanky, if only because the fic is a WIP--whatever problem(s) the detractors have might be resolved in future chapters, after all. Not to mention the fact that they've been very vocal in their disappointment on the last few updates not improving the situation (while losing sight of the fact that the last few lengthy chapters take up less than a week story-wise). The problem is that in order to understand the wank, one needs to read the fic. And I dunno about asking people to read that huge, ongoing monster in order to understand the wank.

FYI, I find the fact that there's a tvtropes page for "Embers" to be very very hilarious. XD

I went to a convention this past weekend, and one of the panels I wandered into was one where the Japanese voice actor (Masakazu Morita) and the US voice actor (Johnny Yong Bosch) for Ichigo from Bleach were taking questions. I didn't stay for the entire thing mainly because I had hoped it'd be a humorous skit rather than a Q&A, but I did stay long enough to hear something hilarious and potentially wanky.

I'm not sure what the actual question was, since I wasn't sitting near the questioner and no one bothered to repeat it to the rest of the audience. From the answers given though, I'm pretty sure it was something along the lines of "In your opinion, who does Ichigo love, Rukia or Orihime?" Bosch made it clear he thinks Ichigo like Orihime, and made a joke about Rukia being an "old, dead chick." (Actually, how old is Rukia anyway? I don't recall ATM.) Morita said he thinks Ichigo loves Orihime, but added Ichigo considers Rukia as a part of him, which to me sounds like (Morita thinks) Ichigo has strong non-romantic feelings for Rukia.

My basic reaction to this, of course, was "OMG THE WANK FROM THE ICHIGO/RUKIA FANS OVER THIS WILL BE EPIC!!!!1!1!!"

So! *makes popcorn*

I told someone on-line about it yesterday, and she or other folks found relevant videos on YouTube, so here I am waiting to see if someone will post something to fw. I'm not that into Bleach and don't follow the relevant communities, so someone else will have to make the post. :3

Does anyone on my friends list live in Arizona? My friend is dragging me there and I are going to be wandering around there, and I was curious if anyone lives near the areas we'll be visiting.

I had a weird thought the other day, after reading more posts about the live-action Avatar movie casting debacle. (So. Much. Fail.)

If "Lois & Clark" had been aired in this decade instead of the 90s, would there have been wank over a (part) Japanese guy playing Clark Kent/Superman? Because when I came across the pilot while channel surfing, my first thought was "Who is the cute Japanese guy in the glasses?" And it took me a while to figure out the "cute Japanese guy" was supposed to be Clark Kent.

Did anyone bother to compile a list of all the people who don't exist? I was reading the home school vs public school wank and I started wondering. I *know* there were more than girl games, bisexuals, and English majors, but I can't remember any of the additions, and I'm pretty sure it'll bug me for the rest of the day. :(

Trying out another theme, partly because I was adding icons and felt like fiddling around a bit, partly because the font on this one is bigger. The bigger font is also the reason why I didn't go for the Bamboo theme. Let's see how long this one lasts.

I should mention that I am a bit of a wuss, so that bit near the end with Timothy Dalton's character kind of squicked me. Same goes for the reporter's, uh, steeple meeting. (Although right now nothing beats that movie with Adrien Brody as a Jewish pianist during WWII Poland for nightmare material, because the horrible stuff were done against a background of ordinary, everyday life. D:) Oddly enough, the car collision early on didn't bother me as much, probably because things looked waxy.

So the latest Highlander movie was out on dvd a week or two ago. I saw it at Sam's Club.

Initial reaction: OMG BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA LIKE HELL I'M GONNA BUY THAT AT THAT PRICE.

Second reaction: ...who the hell is on the cover? That don't look very much like Adrian Paul.

And then I went home.

In the time since then, I've read some folks' reactions to the dvd, mainly that the documentary was better than the movie and they thought it was worth getting just for that. And the fact that Peter Wingfield's backflip was included helped.

Now I'm thinking, "Man, I don't want to pay $19 for that piece of crap, but PW's backflip! the documentary sounds cool. Dang it."

I suppose I could wait and see how long it'll take before it goes down to $5 or less.

Really cracked-out idea up for grabs that occurred to me recently, due to my current reading material: Sanzo as a Jedi.
