Goal: Five Million Downloads - we can do it.

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
This is for Erin ([info]redscorner). In her own words here and here.

"Hi, my name is Erin and I'm a 29 year old single female living in the United States of America.

First and foremost, I'd like to thank you for downloading this document. I'm trying to get enough downloads to qualify for a monetary payout of MegaUploads Rewards program. Let me explain why.

I suffer from two neurological disorders (Chiari malformation and cranial lesions) that will require a combined total of 2-4 brain surgeries. I'm unemployed and uninsured and the state I live in is so broke, they have strictly limited who qualifies for Medicaid. Because I have no children and am not pregnant, I don't qualify.

I have been working with several hospitals and organizations in my area to get the care and treatment that I need, but have only made so much progress. Bottom line: In the USA, if you don't have insurance, the healthcare system doesn't exist for you. I have had a surgical consultation and it has been recommended I have the first brain surgery as soon as I possibly can. The only catch is that there will be a deposit required ranging anywhere from $1500-$5000 dollars. I have not worked for almost a year and therefore do not have this kind of money.

Living with a Chiari malformation is painful and exhausting. Living with cranial lesions in addition to the Chiari? Is beyond any kind of description.

I've thought about the different ways I can try to raise this money. I don't like asking for handouts or charity of any kind, so I have hesitated in giving my PayPal information as a solicitation for donations.

Then, I came across the MegaUpload reward program and used part of what little money I do have to set up a paid account for two months for $11.99. This program states if I get 5 million downloads, they will pay me $10,000. There a few stipulations: only one download per IP address per day, only downloads made from qualifying countries, no attempted manipulation or fraud to earn more points.

I don't know if this is too good to be true, but I figure it's worth a shot. If I can somehow reach enough people who would be willing to take time out of their day, hopefully more than just one day, to download this virus free text document, I may be able to get the surgery I need to continue living.

Again, I thank you for downloading this file and if you choose to do so, for sending the link to people you know asking them to download."

Graphic made by mistress_mab, who has also complied a list of the qualifying countries.

One download of a text file that says what I've pasted above per day. No cost to you, with the potential of helping someone who needs it a hell of a lot. One click every day. We can do it. ♥

Canceling the hotel room and plans for the Ren Faire is the adult, responsible thing to do since we're trying to get an apartment and that came up after the reservations and plans were made. Been living 20 miles from one of the biggest ren faires in the country for most of my life, never got to go. Parents hate it and it's no fun alone. Ah well.

Just got an email from one of my first, oldest online friends. She was diagnosed 9/15 with stage 3 colon cancer.

That's my Saturday morning in a nutshell. How's yours?

Isn't it strange?
Feels like I'm lookin' in the mirror.
What would people say
If only they knew that I was...

Part of some geneticist's plan? (plan-plan-plan)
Born to be a carbon-copy man (man-man-man)
There in a petri dish late one night,
They took a donor's body cell and fertilized a human egg and so I say...

I think I'm a clone now.
There's always two of me just a-hangin' around.
I think I'm a clone now
'Cause every chromosome is a hand-me-down.

Look at the way
We go out walking close together.
I guess you could say
I'm really beside myself.

I still remember how it began. (gan-gan-gan)
They produced a carbon-copy man. (man-man-man)
Born in a science lab late one night,
Without a mother or a father, just a test tube and a womb with a view.

I think I'm a clone now (a clone now)
There's always two of me just a-hangin' around.
I think I'm a clone now (a clone now)
'Cause every chromosome is a hand-me-down.

I think I'm a clone now (a clone now)
And I can stay at home while I'm out of town.
I think I'm a clone now (a clone now)
'Cause every pair of genes is a hand-me-down.

Signing autographs for my fans,
Come and meet the carbon-copy man.
Livin' in stereo, it's all right,
Well, I can be my own best friend and I can send myself for pizza so I say...

I think I'm a clone now.
Another one of me's always hangin' around.
I think I'm a clone now,
'Cause every chromosome is a hand-me-down.

I think I'm a clone now (a clone now)
I've been on Oprah Winfrey - I'm world renowned.
I think I'm a clone now (a clone now)
And every pair of genes is a hand-me-down.

I think I'm a clone now (a clone now)
That's my genetic twin always hangin' around.
I think I'm a clone now (a clone now)
'Cause every chromosome is a hand-me-down.

Trashy Fanfic

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
So a friend of mine got flamed on a smutfic she wrote; someone was calling it 'trashy'. I've read said fic in question and it was exactly as a smutfic oughta be - good'n hot. As a result... my brain insisted on filking this song. Dear Confederate Railroad, please accept my deepest apologies, but this had to be done.

Sample:
Oh, I like 'em good, I like 'em with a plot that'll hold,
But I still like 'em smutty, I like 'em raunchy and bold.
They say our tastes don't reflect us but I don't agree.
I want me some fic that's as naughty as me.

Goodbye.

[info]redpanda,

It was through your creation of CFAN that ultimately led me to LJ, and to finding friends I treasure dearly.

We didn't get along all that well, and lord knows I wasn't close to you, but I always respected you.

The world's a little bit darker tonight without your light in it.

Goodbye, .=K=., you will be missed.

Searching for a year-old wank.

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I would've sworn I had this in memories, but apparently not.

I'm not even sure which month it was posted in (although I think it was October) or which Fandom_whatever community.

A female author posted an article on another site seriously dissing NaNoWriMo and wanking mightily about how how DARE those people call themselves *writers*?!

If you remember it - or more to the point, remember where it is/have a link, share? Please?

Thanks.

I've known about this for a while now...

I just now had the notion to dig up the lyric files that I wanted this site for (damn him!) off the wayback machine (which I'm doing now) but anyway...

While working on this... it just struck me how absolutely wanktastic the whole situation was, and wondering if he needs some lotion to help with all the chaffing I'm sure he got from fapping so much.

"I suffered many deceptions in the last years, especially in the last two years, have killed the sacred fire in my fan's heart. That's this fan who was updating this site. After many months of hesitatios, I decided to close this site definitively. I no longer had the desire to update it and keep up the high standards I set for it in order to act as a reference tool."

Entitlement much?

Aw, for fuck's sake.

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I haven't been over here much at all because this year's found me so busy I can barely keep up with LJ when I do find time to read it, so yeah, JF's not a high priority.

The whole F_W baleeted episode struck me as funny as hell - it was Ultimate Metawank.

And chances are, nobody who'd actually be in a position to know this is gonna read this, but...

Fucking hell! The next time somebody gets the oh-so-fucking intelligent idea to delete F_W and grind it to a dead halt, you DO realize that you could just shut down the comm itself and prevent people from being able to post new entries and comment without deleting the fucking thing.

There's over a year's worth of entries here and some of them ARE damn funny. Just because you get your panties in a wad over the present is no reason to remove the past.

I'm going out on a limb and wagering most sane folks who were otherwise amused by the level of metawank were also peeved by you not only stopping F_W, but refusing to allow us even a chance to save the older things we like.

That's the only thing that made me annoyed. Otherwise, I found it funny as hell.

Googlebombing.

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
An Anti-Semetic website has Googlebombed the word 'Jew' so that if you search with that word in Google and hit the "I'm Feeling Lucky" function, you will get their hate page.

To counteract this, she has asked people to start linking to Jew.

Just copy and paste this into your own journal:
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jew">Jew</a>

Pass it on, post it yourself, make a public entry for Google to find because hate should not win. (I'd also recommend unchecking the box that stops Google from searching your journal for the time being).

Let's googlebomb them back and get that word away from a site that shouldn't be allowed to even exist.

To elaborate: This is the same thing that caused President GW Bush's name to come up if you typed "miserable failure" into Google and hit 'I'm Feeling Lucky!' More information about this: http://slate.msn.com/?id=2063699

Untitled X/F 'fic start

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
This was spawned by several different things, including a discussion on TRY being the darkest of the three seasons to the point where it might have been better to make it a spin-off of Slayers, and not a direct part. It was already darker than the previous two seasons as it was, and there was plenty of hints for the potential for it to grow much darker.

The temple of the Fire Dragon King is one of those hints. That place has never come across as kosher; many elements seen remind not only myself but others of organized religious establishments where the leaders have gone out of control, fostering an environment of abuse. This is spawned from such a 'what-if': What if Slayers TRY had been allowed to become as dark as it could have potentially become?

And what if Filia sought out an escape early on, after the events in Episode 8 ("Be Careful! The Plan Has Begun!") where she outright defied the Supreme Elder? There's also various bits of evidence that lend credence to a rumor found on a Japanese fansite which named Saichuro as Filia's father.

This begins later that night, at an inn.

Because I like being snarky

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
All the dirty details here -- it's probably been [info]otf_wank'ed by now, I betcha.

OP: [Doesn't like Brad & Co. listening to the user base and making things harder on the serial adders]

Comment: [Points out the flaws in reasoning, posting in favor of such a thing.]

Someone Else: [snippet] "It has nothing to do with the want of the majority; it has to do with what is RIGHT. This stuff is fundamentally wrong. We can't vote gravity to point in the other direction, and we can't vote these suggestions into merit."

Me: Ah! I get'cha now!

Friend-of lists: They're like gay marriage...in a way.

It's so much more logical and it all becomes clear, because yanno, not letting asswits harrass people isn't any different from abortion, gay marriage, and the death penalty.

A vote for Brad is a vote for Bush, right? Your logic astounds me, kind sir.

Keep up ye olde wankery on this Beaded Pony, and I just might be motivated enough to make a Fandom_Wank icon for it.

EDIT: He doesn't deny it! Wow! Friend-of list wank IS like Gay Marriage and Abortion!

I'm not at all surprised that logic might astound you, as it might be a rather foreign concept to many in the "let me edit my friend-of list" crowd.

It's not simply an empty statement.

In this context it really is a matter of reason versus (supposed) popular opinion. Logic versus wants.

Yes, dear. Of course, dear. Not making abortion illegal is reasonable because it doesn't solve the problem. Allowing gay marriage is reasonable because people are allowed certain constitutional rights. Not letting people have their friend-of list overloaded with serial adders and offensive names and controlling their own user info page is perfectly reasonable. Riiiiiiiiiiight.

Thoughts on Xellos

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
(reposting from my dA journal since it's more fandom-centric than art-centric, even if it was art that snapped it all into focus.)

Now, most people (not all but most I've spoken with) agree with me that under most any circumstances, Xellos is most assuredly the one in control, even if he allows others to believe otherwise. He's a puppetmaster. He likes being in control, not just of himself but all those around him. He's definitely a true dominant, through and through.

...and yet...

...yet...

He's not. He's a hard one to define. I suppose he might technically be a Switch, but that's not exactly true. Being a Switch implies that someone might submit to someone they'd also Dom. That...I can't see. I don't see Xellos as viewing himself as having an equal. Everyone is either above or below him. Some may come close, but no one actually *IS* his equal. If he's above them, he's always the one in control.

But he's also a character who would be -- and is -- very submissive to anyone above him in the Mazoku chain of command. I suppose that's something of a 'duh' there, but it never actually occured to me before, not quite in that context. Xellos is utterly devoted to and obedient toward Zelas, and by default, those above Zelas. It hit me just how true this is when I saw a fanart by Bgeezus the other day. I've been mulling this over in my head for a while now. It struck me as very IC for Xellos, yet you can likely tell from my artwork that I veiw him very much as a true Dominant, not submissive in the slightest.

But in this instance, it's Shabby who he's actually submitting to. And Shabrangido is definitely above him, even above Zelas. Xellos could be the poster child for the Mazoku race for what a Mazoku is and ought to aspire to be, in terms of a servant. He was aggressive toward Gaav because as far as he was concerned, Gaav was a traitor, and therefore not one of them, and not the slightest bit worthy. Canonically, he does despise Phibrizzo, but he followed orders. However, his loyalty is first, last, and always to Zelas, so her own orders took precedence over Phibby's (the reason why he was also investigating everything on his own time, as he indicated to Gaav in NEXT.)

Xellos isn't a Switch. He perceives no one to be his exact equal, and there is no one he dominates who he would submit to, under regular conditions. (irregular conditions would be, for example, Lina. Normally, no. But when LoN herself was possessing Lina, ohhellyes.) But he is both a true Dom and a true sub at the same time. Juxtaposition and paradox.

Damn, I love this character. ^_^
