If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be?

Fig trees are decorative and useful and sweet, but they make a horrible, wet sticky mess all over the place.

Also, all kinds of other sexual symbolism there. Including my favorite obscene gesture. Good choice!

(mmm, fresh figs. I missed fresh figs this year.)

Apples: First they try to break your ankles, *then* they rot into a sticky mess! Excellent.

I really like applewood, though, for some reason.

I could so run for office if I was a Ficus.

You know, running a bush for office on the slogan "at least it won't do any harm" is ... sadly not as funny as it was in 2000. D:

Joshua tree! I wanna be a U2 album!

I prefer Cactus Tree myself, but then, it is well established that I have no taste in music!

And Joshua trees are pretty cool. Seriously, any tree that is commensal with a giant ground sloth has my vote. Though the thing where their fruit are full of bug eggs is kind of creepy.

That is the best answer I could ever give anyone about why I'm childfree.

A boy ginkgo, not a girl ginkgo, I hope! ...though all the ginkgo trees I've known personally have been boys, maybe the fruit aren't really as bad as they say.

Oh, no, a girl. The fruits are the most gorgeous pure red color and against the bright yellow fall foliage they're a color purist's dream. Of course I am pampered and have a wonderful ground maintainence crew who cuts and cleans the grass under me so the smell never has a chance to build up.

Ah! The groundskeepers where I lived with ginkgos were lazy from way back, and planted only males. :D The colors sound delicious, though! (as long as someone else is taking care of the fallen fruit.)

Birch. Tree of beginnings!

We don't get a lot of birches in my area - which is too bad, because every so often I wander just far enough to find a forest full of them, and they're so striking, it's like wandering into - not even an enchanted forest, but, like, a mmorpg! We were up camping near Boston, and it rained for two weeks, and the day after it cleared, all the birch trees were striped, in horizontal rings of dark gray around where the limb scars were, until the bark had fully dried out the next day.

So cool.

Willow! Beautiful and magical and bendy, and never found far from water.

I used to have willow as my favorite tree! I love the way they look, like they're cradling some private space inside, and the quiet around a willow that can be for either peace or mourning. And seeing the tree often growing, in all its serenity, right up out of white water.

Also, making willow whistles is fun, when I can remember how.

The internets say your name is associated with the New Year of the Trees. I only learned about that holiday this year, and I have kind of fallen for it (I am ashamed I only just learned about it; it was brought up in association with Birchat HaChammah, another holiday I am jealous of).

Apples are popular! I love the colors. (My longest-living original fantasy kingdom has the apple tree as its symbol, and I have to always resist the temptation to dress all the characters, all the time, in livery of brown and red and white and green.)

Oooh, maple! Pretty. Maple trees are the best trees for yards and gardens, I think. Pretty colors, and they don't make a mess, and shady, and fun to climb and play in, and sweet. And of course the samaras, which are also called keys, which I still call helicopters.

Willow is what popped into my head, but somebody already chose that. (There was a weeping willow in my mother's front yard, but between ice storms and hurricane-style lightning it finally gave up.)

Second choice.. perhaps a Black Walnut. I have many advantages, such as being inhabited by squirrels that can throw things at my enemies, and also I drop my leaves all at once so you don't have to rake 58092348 times during the fall.

I'd be an oak.
